  1. But does she sing?? If so, this thread just finished.
  2. Glad to hear she's doing well. I lean enough on the ground that when I add throttle to taxi uphill, I have to push Mixture a little richer to keep running. Virtually zero lead on my plugs at oil change (50 hours, but I have a filter).
  3. Seems it was his PhD dissertation in Aerospace Engineering. I measured my prop blades 9 ways from Sunday, and made a nice CAD drawing of it.
  4. Yep. When I bought my Galaxy 8 phone with 8 or 16 GB memory (I forget which), I also bought two 64GB microSD cards for it, for an additional $35. That's a $200 factory upgrade from apple, no memory card allowed . . . . .
  5. Poor apple victims . . . . With my Samsung tablet, when I pressed on the link it downloaded the video then asked if i wanted to open it. Nice landing, Vance. Those are some bright lights on your plane!
  6. Not quite as bad as if the blade had broken off at the hole . . . .
  7. I used to visit a 2000 x 75 grass field with a slight curve and a hump jump before rotation speed, down along the riverbank. My limit was 2 people and half tanks. Never had a problem whether taking off over the open south end, or the cement factory's gravel pile at the north end. Just don't try it heavy. I've never made a tailwind takeoff (except for twitchy gusts), but my two surprise downwind landings were both uncomfortable and rather long. Be careful . . . . and don't be heavy. (Yeah, I repeated that on purpose.)
  8. Yep. Ploughed ground or beans, gear up. Pastureland, corn, probably gear down. I rememberan ASI video about a Comanche going down in the desrt, the gear were pushed up through the wing by the broken groind. It would be bad to make that many sparks so close to the fuel tanks Landing across a slope or into trees? Maybe down to help dissipate some energy. All in all, it depends in what I see out tbe windshield. And with fast electric gear, I can change my mind pretty quickly.
  9. Don't I wish! If it turns up, I'll let you know.
  10. Careful, both of you! The cheap cards on ebay are not WAAS, they are the silver sticker cards. Old WAAS cards have a green sticker. When I lost mine last fall, I could not find one for sale for love nor money, and had to pony up ~$250 for a new orange-sticker card and reader, then update the software in my 430W . . . . Good luck finding a replacement! I ended up calling Jeppesen, they made me a deal buying both together.
  11. While the discussion started on Page 1, various installation photos and discussion start on Page 6 . . .
  12. I bought my CO monitor as soon as Dan posted his story with the discount code. At my previous annual, I found I had been flying {for how long?] with a fist-sized hole in the bottom of the muffler . . . and of course my el cheapo "spot card" from Sportys never indicated anything . . . . .
  13. I can't help but ask: what in the world comes First and Second???
  14. That's how I do in my C, too. Leave everything alone, push for 500 fpm descent. I come down around 170mph, just below the yellow. Level off then slow down for pattern entry, drop Takeoff Flaps. Can't get any easier . . . .
  15. I thought the "apply maximum braking (without skidding tires)" part was pretty good!
  16. If you don't have one of your own, see if you can hire a 12 year old for the afternoon. They generally have skinny arms.
  17. Keep everything forward. Why? Next time out, make two climbs (one at reduced power, one with everything forward) and watch your engine temperatures. Climb at least 5000' above your power reduction. Time the climbs, too, and report back with the numbers and which one you think is kinder to your engine.
  18. When discussing inadvertent IMC, the only spiral that I'm familiar with begins with "graveyard" . . . . .
  19. Never heard of such a thing. But I don't see how idle throttle, full flaps and gear down will make you spiral. When I went VFR into IMC (took off on a clearing forecast, headed to pick up mom for the reunion; waiting to see would have been too late ), all it took to get out was eyes on the panel, standard rate 180° turn, and watch the altimeter. If in IMC and somehow lose all instruments (how in the world?), just reduce throttle some and descend straight ahead. You can hold heading with the magnetic compass, right? If you were trimmed level before, you should stay pretty level; feet off the rudders, trimmed level, throttled back a little, you should descend fairly wings level if the compass isn't changing. Lose the entire panel and the compass in IMC? Put your head in your lap and kiss your ass goodbye, assuming whatever took out everything didn't take you out with it. Even glass panel planes have backup instruments not requiring electricity . . . . .
  20. Let's see what Wolfgang Langewiesche had to say: To finish the discussion:
  21. This works well with string. Disconnect the existing wire, securely tape a piece of strong string to it, pull the wire back out. Securely tape the second wire to the bundle, pull the string to bring both wires back to the end point. A wing's worth of extra wire is not needed.
  22. The round knobs for the lights are combination On/Off and dimmers. Fully CCW is Off; spin it right and they come on Dim and get brighter as you turn. This should be in your Owners Manual. No idea what the little switches are in between . . .
