Hi Don, I am also interested in a set of visors the next time you are making them.  My 68 M20F has the shade attachments in the outside corners so I believe yours will work perfectly.

    Thank you,

    Paul

  2. Gevertex,

If you decided to get the set from Niko, let me know, and I will take "make visors" off my list of things that need to get done soon.

Incidentally, the visors are pretty sturdy, and having a used set should not present any problems. The shades might get scratched some in use, but they are replaceable.

On another note: a new user PMed me and suggested I send an email to you. The email they provided is obviously not your email address. They wanted immediate payment and a shipping address.  I've tagged this as a scam. Just a heads up for anyone else this happens to. They didn't get any money from me.

That is a little scary. Was my name of some such in the email address?

  4. I would be glad to show you the parts used in my visors, but unless you are a skilled machinist, (with time on your hands) it would be virtually impossible to make your own for anything less than Rosen charges.

I will be glad to furnish you a set, but I do not have a set in inventory right now. I have a major project going on right now, so it will take me a little while to get some made.

If you like, I will let you know when I have some available. It will likely be a few weeks.

  5. Since there is so much hand fitting on Mooney construction, there are minor differences in the capacities of the tanks. Frankly, I don't think a gallon or two either way is ever likely to save (or cost you) your life. However, we Mooney owners like things precise, and the much better way is to run a tank dry in the air, then add measured fuel, and marking your own stick as you go. Being lazy like I am, I only did it for one tank, so my guess is that it is off a little for the other tank.

    Don,

Can you send me a link? I may just buy yours and then have the info put on as a decal as mentioned later in the thread.

    Thanks!

Roy, I don't have a website. You should be able to see some photos of mine in my gallery. Mine are a shameless copy of LASAR's design (which is a knock-off of Rosen's hardware, albeit with a different shape shade, that seems to work well in a Mooney). I started building them after LASAR quit selling them. They are fully articulating, so you can swing them from the front to the side. The hardware is aluminum that I anodize black. I will be glad to answer any questions you have if you will PM me. Or give me a call at 214 207-6744 or email muncy-d@hotmail.com.

    Don,

I deleted my post above after thinking about it because it was generally negative towards MAPA and I remembered what my mother told me about not saying anything at all if I couldn’t say anything nice, but I have no idea what about it you disagreed with?   I agree with everything you typed above.  If you want to continue to “belong” to MAPA, though, out of a sense of tradition and loyalty to the Mooney community just do like I do and mail them a check. They will be happy to cash it and renew your membership.

    Jim

    Jim,

I gathered from you and Andy's posts (and I could easily be wrong) that you thought the reason MAPA was not functioning was because Mooney folks didn't support them because other sources gave them all the information they wanted free. Certainly no offense intended.

I agree with you, Andy.  Between MooneySpace, The Mooney Flyer, and the Mooney Summit, everything they used to offer is now available somewhere else.

I disagree. I (and I think many others) would continue to pay the relatively small amount of dues to get any additional source of information about Mooneys and Mooney people. The only reason I don't "belong" to MAPA is that when I tried to renew, they were no longer around to take my money. I think that is a good thing financially, as there has been virtually no benefit from MAPA for quite some time. As others have stated, the magazine turned almost worthless quite some time ago. When the annual MAPA get-togethers ceased, I think we were all very fortunate that the Maxwells stepped forward with MooneyMax. Also thank goodness for the Mooney Summit, Mooneyspace and the Mooney Flyer.
