  1. I didn't get a PM about my radio/8 track player. I was trying to be funny about selling it cheap. However, we only listened to the radio a couple of times early in the 15 years I have had the plane and I have never put a tape in it. I have never seriously thought about the pros and cons of taking it out and selling it. Also have no idea about what it might be worth.
  2. When I wrote that, I was 100% certain I knew what I was talking about. In retrospect I'm not so sure. Yes, my nose comes up when I raise the flaps. Maybe it is because I have it trimmed way up for landing that wants to climb when power is applied. Never mind my rambling when I type before I think. Thank goodness we have folks here to catch me when I do.
  3. If you are asking if our planes ever have tubeless tires. No, I don't think so. We all have tubes.
  4. You are in luck. I have an 8 track player in my plane I can let go cheap I really could not believe it when I bought my plane. A previous owner had installed the tape deck, and the plane did not have an intercom.
  5. Ross, I think the problem is the perception. With full flaps, adding a bunch of power (at least in my K) produces a very noticeable nose up attitude. I can understand that a pilot, used to take-off flaps, could fear a stall because of the unusual attitude, until they have done it a few times..
  6. I think the design of the mount and arm is OK, but still glad to have comments or criticism. The part I am less sure of is the size and shape of the shade itself. I have seen pictures of Rosens, and they seem too large. The ones on my LASARs is awfully good. A couple of considerations are how they may interfere with things like the compass, and how well they get out of the way when swung up. For instance interference with the air vents. I don't know of a way to figure these out without fitting in a C or E and seeing. Letting owners hold up cardboard or the like of various sizes might give some clue. That is why I posted the distance from the center post to the outer edge. Incidentally, that distance is hard to reduce much at all, as the "overlap" of the two parts of the extension arm needs to be large enough to furnish support. and in order to reach the side window, the extended arm has a minimum length.

  9. As far as I know, all of Home Depot's plexiglass and Lexan are clear. I got mine at a local plastics store. If you can't find any locally, depending on the shape you want, etc. I can likely make you what you need for very near the price of the material and shipping.. Incidentally, I have found plexiglass to be a little easier to work with, but Lexan is a little stouter and perhaps less subject to scratches. I think someone posted that Lexan yellows more than Plexiglass, but I have not seen it. (Limited experience).

  11. Just In case someone with a vintage plane interested in sun visors doesn't keep up with the general Mooney posts, you might check on "visors" under general Mooney.
  12. I have just about finished my first iteration of a design for "center mount" visors. (I still don't know when in the Mooney model line, they switched to side mounts. I know the Js are side mount, but I don't know about the ones prior to that. Some of the E, F and G guys might chime in.) My newest version uses a split collar to attach to the center post and an extendable arm toward the outside, with the shade sticking back toward the center. By extending the arm, it can be positioned for the side window. Naturally, in the final version, the collar will have posts out each side for the right and left visors. I have designed a "pinch" screw to tighten the extension arm so it doesn't vibrate in or out, but the fit of the extension arm is very close and I am not sure the pinch is necessary. As the photos show, the pinch screw is not yet installed, but in one of the pics, it is in approximately its planned location (small black knob). The shade itself on this version is about 5 x 12 1/2 inches. I don't have an early model to test it on, so I can't be certain if the dimensions of the shade is too long/short/wide/narrow. It seems likely that I might need to clip a corner to clear the compass. The distance from the center of the center post to the outside end of the shade is 14 1/4 inches, with the arm in the non-extended position, if anyone wants to cut a piece of cardboard and play with sizes. Or if you are close to Dallas, we can fit it on your plane and do some tweaking. As before, I am soliciting input as to sizes and anything else about the design. Look at the photos for the difference between the extended and non-extended positions.
  13. For Oshkosh and next year for S-n-F, someone ought the design a Mooneyspace name tag size "cut out" in distinctive enough colors, logo, etc, to be able to recognize from 20 yards away. It could be posted so everyone could type in their name and user name and put it in one of the hundreds of name tag holders we have accumulated. It is no fun walking up close enough to read a name tag to see if you should approach someone, but if you know some distance away, it is a MSer, it would work. If there weren't so many CBs, you could design and sell caps

Clarence, Since the US does not have any regulations specifying what form logs must be in, it would be perfectly legal for an owner to have a loose leaf notebook and put each entry on a separate removable page. Thus, if the owner provides that notebook to you and you write your entry on the next blank page, you have done your duty. It would appear to me you achieve the same thing by handing the owner a sticky entry to put in the logs. It is the responsibility of the IA to "make an entry" and the responsibility of the owner to "maintain the logs". I would think that the protection to the IA would be to carefully document what entries "he made", probably by keeping a copy. Incidentally, I am no expert and this is my impression of the regulations from what I have seen and heard.. Don
  16. Some years ago (probably 40 or more), some outfit sold circular tube devices with steel balls rolling around inside, that were designed to mount behind the wheels of a car, to balance your wheels (tires) with this same theory. I never found anyone who tried them.
  17. This was the way it was done on Volkswagens way back when. You ran it until it faltered, then switched to the "reserve" tank. This was just a section of the tank that was accessed by the reserve valve lever (and refilled when you filled the tank). Some people still screwed it up by not switching back to the "regular" setting after filling the tank. Then, when it faltered, you were really out.
  18. Lucky guy re the machines and tools. Good job on the knowledge. My equipment is poor and my self taught knowledge probably no better.
  19. I feel the same way. I would not recommend anyone do some of the things I have done with tools. Life would be much nicer if I had some better stuff. At the hangar I have a cheapo Harbor Freight drill press and sometimes it is a challenge to get a hole within 1/16th inch of where I want it.

  21. Good to know. My side mount ones are not a problem, but for the earlier ones (center mount), I wanted to know whether I had a clearance problem. Mine (K model) are 3/4 inch. Are all the earlier ones that size also?
  22. I now have my production under control and am beginning to start working on a design for the center post mounts. Can some folks chime in and let me know if all the models have at least 1/2 inch clearance between the center post and the windshield.
  23. I really can't believe I have zero photos taken while I was taking primary, instrument, commercial and multi training. I think I did not know how big part of my life aviation would ultimately occupy.
