  1. Actually I think I understand. Do you send out your exhaust to AWI or another company and they fix it up and send it back?
  2. Thanks for the advice! Does rebuild mean having someone weld the cracks? Or does it mean having a new exhaust custom built for my airplane? Sorry, I'm still pretty new to all this!
  3. I'll certainly be looking into it thank you! Do you know what something like this would typically cost?
  4. I will give them a call in the morning and see what they say. Thank you for the response!
  5. I purchased a 1965 M20C as my first ever airplane and although the performance has been a nice step up from 172s, I definitely have not been lucky with the maintenance. It is in its first annual since I've owned it right now out of N87 and the mechanics have been searching for a new exhaust system because as it stands right now, according to them the exhaust has major cracks that are beyond weldable at this point. I know it's a reputable shop so I haven't pushed back too much on it and they have been struggling to find anything for several months now. I'd like to avoid having a new exhaust built because the cost of that plus the annual would be quite brutal. I thought it wouldn't hurt to reach out on here to see if anyone has any connections that could maybe point me in the right direction. Any advice would be much appreciated because as a first-time owner, this whole situation has been tough!
  6. Yea I believe it was Hangared so I see what you mean why that would be a good sign. I don't think I'd remove them before every flight, I would certainly lose them as well!
  7. I am new to the Mooney world and airplane ownership in general and recently bought a m20c and noticed it did not have any tie down rings on the wings. I kind of assumed that maybe it just doesn't have them but I was told it certainly is supposed to. Before I go and buy a pair that will certainly not fit with my luck, does anyone know where to get them?
  8. Thanks for the reply! They ran the compressions and they look solid.
  9. I recently bought a 65' M20C and I need my 10 hours of instruction for insurance purposes. I hired a mooney instructor to get these hours and he saw in the logbook that the engine was overhauled in 2001 but now only has 150 ish hours. The majority hours are in the last three years and the plane sat for a lot of time before hand. The instructor said he won't fly it until it gets bore scoped. The plane also has a very minor fuel leak which will be fixed soon but I was hoping to get my 10 hours beforehand so I won't have to deal with instructors. I am wondering how the people on here would feel about the engine and if they feel that it is really an issue or that the guy is being overly cautious. He currently flies an Ovation with a glass panel so I'm wondering if maybe he's just use to much more expensive airplanes. I'm new to airplane ownership and Mooneys so I just wanted some extra opinions, thank you!
  10. Thanks for all the replies! The weather is pretty awful here in NJ so I'll have to try next week. I'll give an update if it works out, thanks again!
  11. I am currently in the process of buying a 65' M20C and like many older airplanes, the fuel gauges are pretty much useless. Just about all my flying experience is in Cessnas and I really liked being able to verify my fuel quantity using a plastic dipstick. I assumed that all airplanes had this and I now realize that is not the case. I am making this post because I would very much so like to make one and was wondering if anyone on here has a similar year Mooney that has done this same thing. I think I will use some sort of plastic tubing and make markings on it and would appreciate if anyone could share markings or dipstick designs that they have found to work with their Mooneys. This is my first post here and I really appreciate any replies!
