  1. Many modern pieces of avionics have bluetooth or wifi connectivity. Can these devices be hacked in a harmful way? How about autopilots ?
  2. Thank you very much, I appreciate Caruso (prestigious name)
  3. 12 more gallons would solve my problem! I'll definitely check the real capacity of my tanks
  4. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll definitely check this
  5. Allow me to disagree with you on this point. there are many countries in africa where the distances far exceed the autonomy of our planes. For example if you want to fly to lokichogio (HKLK) from nairobi (HKNW) and back, you have to send barrels of fuel to loki a few days before you fly there! I can cite many more similar or worse examples in other african countries. This point is however irrelevant to the subjet which is how to get long range tanks whatever the purpose of the need is.
  6. Is this something which could be done on the K? Even adding 5 gal per tank would mean a lot
  7. of course it is unsafe whether forbidden or not. But in some cases, it isn't even a question of cost. Avgas is not available in many places in africa so you can't even go there if you don't have enough fuel for your return flight. Unless Jose Monroy decides to get back to business, there seems to be no other solution
  8. It is not uncommon to have to pay as much as 1300$ for a 200lt (53 gal) barrel of AVGAS in some african countries. Thid yields to 25$/gal compared to 10$ in a neighboring country. Thus the need for LR tanks. But at 30k, it makes more sense to just carry the fuel in cans (or in a turtlepac) although it would take all the baggage compartment space and limit the quantity to 20gal only.
  9. I investigated all the solutions provided in this thread. Indeed there is a possibility to get the LR tanks in my plane, but the kit + install might end up costing close to 30k!
  10. Many thanks for these constructive replies. I'll check with reseal shops. Maybe with a bit if luck? Would it be legal to install bladders and connect them to the fuel system? Wouldn't that require an STC?
  11. Hi, I need LR tanks in my m20k. Jose Monroy has no appetite to make new ones since he has had a stroke. is there any other option?
  12. Maybe not at 15000 ft but when coming down roughly between 8000 and 12000 ft?
  13. Best wishes and merry Christmas to you Mr Monroy!
  14. I am in africa. Do you mean shops than can install a kit that they will have to order from monroyaero or that they might have in stock ? Obviously if a shop has one available, then it is more interested in installing the kit than simply selling it. But I am prepared to compensate for this.
  15. I sent them an email, hope they have some stock. I wish a prompt recovery to Mr Monroy
  16. I have had no luck contacting monroyaero. I also sent a message here on mooneyspace to @Gagarinbut did not get any answer. Is this company still in business?
  17. Thank you for your answer. I read somewhere that the GI275 cannot be interfaced to the KFC150 if it is a backup of the G3x. Is this correct? Also, since the GI275 will be providing attitude info to the autopilot, it will also get the FD vbar. Will the GI275 synchronize its display with the G3x so that it will also display the FD?
  18. I am in Africa! I am considering buying a 1980 J. It has old radios which need to be replaced with 8.33khz capable transmitters. I also want a GPS. This is what sparked the whole panel upgrade thinking. A perfect candidate for the first radio would be the GTN750XI . Then from one thing to another, why not upgrade all the other instruments? So I started investigating the possibility of adding the g3x. However, from this forum I found out that it is not optimal with the existing auto pilot. This is why I asked if the g3x+GI275 would be the right solution but I did not get a clear cut answer from the various discussions here. From what I understand, I can use a GI275 on its own to drive the autopilot but not in combination with the G3x. Is this correct? In the end, I might keep the existing instruments and just change the radios with 750xi and a GNC255A nav/com and fly the plane for some time before making other changes as suggested by @LANCECASPER
  19. I have actually been avidly reading mooneyspace. Still I am not sure I understand everything. To summarize my understanding: If I want to keep the KFC150 and add new Garmin avionics while retaining the full capabilities of the autopilot , my options are: - G500txi + g5 - 2 x GTI275 However, I am not sure if a g3x+gti275 combination would also work?
  20. Many thanks to all the comments. I will follow the advice here and stay with a 750xi+255 I would like to know if a G3x + GI275 is a good solution in combination with the KFC150?
  21. Hello I have been trying to contact monroy aerospace for an order of long range tanks but did not get any answer. Does anyone know how to order these?
  22. Many thanks for the comments and suggestions. I apologise for the ignorance, but I would like to make sure that the g3x+g5 combination allows to remove all the 6 pack in an ifr plane. Also, I understand that the g5 is used as a backup for the g3x. Does this mean that it has to be configured as a PFD or can it be used to display the 2nd nav in normal operation?
  23. Many thanks for all the contributions. So, the consensus is that I should get a display instead of the 650 and I tend to agree. I like the option of exploring g3x+gfc500 in lieu of g500txi. The installation cost might be the real differentiator. I will definitely check. In fact, I agree with lancescaper about getting used to the plane first. I am however offered an exceptional deal on avionics now, which might not be available in one year time. Is the problem with Garmin radios mentioned by jlunseth an isolated case or has it been observed by others? Regarding engine monitor, how does the Garmin EIS compare with a JPi900 in terms of ergonomy?
  24. Hello, I have been following this forum for a few weeks now and I am grateful to all the contributors for sharing their knowledge. I have just purchased a M20k 252 which has mostly the original panel with AP KFC150, hsi with flight director functioning perfectly. I do not have budget constraints but I do not want to spend money foolishly. If you had the choice between replacing the existing kfc155 radios with gtn750xi+gtn650xi keeping the 6 pack as it is or replacing just one of the radios with gtn750xi and adding a g500txi, what would you do? Thank you
