I took delivery of my plane fro the avionics shop last week. i have a GTN 750 XI connected to dual G3X units. Everyhting is working so far as far as i can tell, but.... I can not change frequencies on the g3x and have it change the 750. Ive confimed in the g3x manual this is supossed to happen, but it doesnt. sometimes it allows me to type the freq on the g3x, but the request appears to time out and never changes on the GTN. Most of the time i am not able to even input the freq on the g3x. SO, i want to run the the settings on both units again. Can someone share the current GTN install manual? TIA

Any help is appreciated. We flew 500mi to pick my plane up at the avionics shop. We did our first shakedown flight and when we landed I shut the avions master down. It was normal. When I turned the master switch back on, all avionics powered. Shop thinks it's the avionics relay after some testing. Any ideas? I've glanced at the other threads. Still not sure where to source one. It's a 1990 28 volt J. Thanks!

Lean Assist button missing from G3X after V9.0 installation

Any updates? -
Concerning thread, as mine is in the shop getting a GFC500 installed, along wit the a g3x system. Even more concerning is the fact that @PT20Jsays its a rate based AP. I was under the impression it was a fully digital attitude based system. FWIW this is what garmin says “The revolutionary GFC 500 autopilot brings unprecedented levels of capability, reliability and affordability to light piston, fixed-wing aircraft. GFC 500 leverages our advanced attitude-based flight control technology developed for the popular GFC 700 autopilot, which drives our most advanced glass flight deck systems”

Pilot deviation. Hold for number!!

one time i was almost vectered into a mountain. It was VMC, i just responded unable, there is a mountain there. I asked for a number, but it was mainly becasue she sounded attractive -
I’ll message back when I have the kx155 in hand, I was hoping to pick my plane up this week, but that isn’t happening. thank you

thanks for the info, i PMd you back.

Thank you. Ill most likely do that when I get home. The avionics shop will let me know what ELT I have now, I might be able to add the switch now, and run the wire, so when I am ready to do it, there wont be any interior work, just pulling the dorsal fin and mounting a new antenna

I’m trying to determine the value of the 406elt. Aviation consumer did an article a little while ago on the. In the title “reduce expectations”. Now, if I was flying without being on an IFR flight plan, or without flight following on the regular, i would think different. Aviation consumer seems to think PLBs are a better choice, but of course the don’t automatically activate

I’m not too worried about the speed loss, however minuscule it is. There isn’t a great spot on my plane to put it that keeps it centerline and not not canting left or right. It’s much cleaner for now. seems to be a moot point anyways, the avionics shop doesn’t want to do it, so I had them run wire in preparation. I’ll get to it at some point down the road, before I paint the plane.

Right, and part of that is what experimental aircraft afford. The ability to make changes without going through certification. If you could take all the one off builds, and auto engine conversion out and compare accident rates, you might see they accident rates are closer than you think. Look at the accident rate of a proven design such as the glasair sportsman, both total accidents and fatal accidents. It’s experimental, and I wouldn’t think twice about owning it in place of a 172/182 if that was my mission.

Yeah, I was wrong. It’s Sebastian, Fl.

Yeah, I don’t have any interest in the single for that reason. Higher approach speeds, and no flaps. The twin looks better anyways, and I like the thought of the redundancy.

Well one of there’s that they have at the factory for sure has 390s in it.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
bmcconnaha replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Like I said above, bad news is tough to deliver. Might even make some one mad. No news tho..... Come on, all that does is really poke the bear. They have been "swamped". Laughable. My day job I manage an auto dealership. I have supply chain problems everywhere that have to be communicated to the customer. Mean while I'm responsible to keep customer satisfaction high. I have to call a customer today and explain I still don't know where his BK/TT is. (The one that still says shipping mid Feb 2022) And can't get an answer from the company. Hardly an email ever replied to. -
I think the biggest engine the have flying is the same I have in my J, an IO390. The singles can take an IO550 I believe. No pressurization

Anyone ever flown one? I have to say, I’m really intrigued by it. In lots of ways a twin fits my mission a bit better. Half tempted to fly down to the factory in Daytona and take a demo.

TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
bmcconnaha replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I learned in 17 years of automobile sales and Managment that bad news is often difficult and not fun to deliver. But, dodging phone calls and not replying for weeks at a time only adds gas to the fire. If you can’t handle that, you’re in over your head. Seems like that’s where we are at with BK. I also learned that if the communication is bad BEFORE the sale, wait until you need something afterwards. Sad, I had high hopes for a relatively inexpensive and safe AP. -
TruTrak Autopilot Pre Order's / Status Update
bmcconnaha replied to Jeev's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Well, we officially no longer offer BK autopilots on our website. I am still waiting for a few of them that have long since gone past the est ship date. That's one thing, but the lack of communication and follow up is terrible from BK. -
I have a dual G3X panel going in my 1990 M20J. Its a 28V airplane. My understanding is the GAD27 was needed for 14V airplanes to keep the system online during engine start. In a 28V airplane, it seems it's only function is to wig wag the landing light and/or recognition lights in a 28V airplane. Question one, if you did this in your airplane, how was it accomplished? It seems I'd need a switch that has OFF, FLASH, and ON. The factory rocker switch is just off/on. I saw some literature on the GAD27 that talked about using it to give annunciation for things like boost pumps, speed brakes etc. Has anyone done this, or is this experimental only? Thank you

Idea to get some FAA/PMA parts support
bmcconnaha replied to bmcconnaha's topic in General Mooney Talk
Thanks for the updates guys. I’ll give a McFarlane some of these recommendations, and report back with what I hear. Part numbers and descriptions help out quite a bit. @M20Doc provided some. Thank you -

Idea to get some FAA/PMA parts support
bmcconnaha replied to bmcconnaha's topic in General Mooney Talk
I am after the Plessy no back spring. I am getting a list of other parts that are needed, but not supported from the factory. I started this to get ideas what others need. -
I have been in contact with Mcfarlane after reaching out to Mooney on several parts i need and not having any luck. the main thing i really need is a Plessy no back spring. Mcfarlane was very receptive and put me in touch with thier engineers. They asked me to compile a short list of needed stuff that the factory isnt supplying any longer. I think the best start would be any repetitive SB that should be complied with, but doesnt have parts to do so. let me know, and i can pass the info on. Thank you
