  1. There is a "pilot" at a local airport that has had five accidents, one which put his wife in the hospital for a month and in a wheelchair for several months. She still flies with him. He built a good size amphib which on first flight he drove the gear through the wings. When I asked a double ii with juice at the FSBO why this guy is still flying, he just told me to mind my own business, which I will. He still owns an antique radial bi-plane and another replacment for the amphib as well as a conventional aircraft. The other four were totaled. Makes you wonder.
  2. 800 hours in a 81 201 flying club Mooney. 800 Hours in my first Mooney a 83 201. In both of these planes I would point the airplane down the runway (correcting for wind of course) and they flew straight. I bough a very low time 87-205 Mooney 2 years ago which I love to death. Bought it in Seattle and flew it home to Detroit in a day with two fuel stops. Trues at 165 plus at altitude. Every takeoff in this plane demands about 5 pounds of force on the bottom of each pedal and tiny corrections to keeps it straight down the runway. My only partner actually was trying to keep it straight with brakes as he transitioned from a Tiger although he has significant Mooney time. After slowing down on takeoff and a screech by myself, he doesn't do that anymore. I don't think there is any kind of shimmy damper and the "wrench" says we should pull the belly pan and take a look for any kind of "centering springs" or whatever device is used to keep the nosewheel straight, if there is anything, there must be something to add some kind of resistance to nose wheel deflection during takeoff......or is gyroscopic force the only thing out there? Very low time two owner airplane always immaculately maintained.well appointed and solid. We deal with it on every takeoff and landing is never an issue. Anybody help with this issue or is that I just never noticed a sensitive nosewheel on takeoff before? Thanks Buds...............Steve
  3. 87 205. G5. King 150FD. Avidine 540 Plane will fly perfect non precision approach including entry etc and vertical guidance when appropriate god's enabled but will not fly a simple ILS. Tried every parameter gpss on and off. Nav mode. App mode.. Just won't work. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Reread all the books...still no go???
  4. 30 knots slower....My Tiger would run away from an Arrow. My 205 doesn't need a rest view mirror. Piper pig.
  5. 87 same problem. 83 fit flat. 87 is plush and won't fold flat. Seatbacks "built in" and not easily removable.
  6. GPSS off..........ILS frequency checked and selected automatically. VLOC selected turning g5 HSI green. Luckily we have a #2 backup and after 35 years of flying, it's a breeze. Too much technology sometimes. Info overload. Hand flying the ILS stone simple anyway. Thanks
  7. KFC 150 Avidine 540 G5 HSI The airplane will fly a non precision approach perfectly including the hold and vertical guidance if available. The entire approach to the FAF. ILS is a different matter. Select and program destination. Select but do not activate ILS approach. Utilize either nav mode or hand fly to set up a 30 degree intercept to the ILS, Engage autopilot, activate ILS approach, Nearing intercept select approach button. Approach light blinks until localizer established. Altitude and heading lights go out and approach light remains steady. GS light comes on. Intercept the localizer on the G5 (green) VLOC selected.....GPSS both on and off, we have tried both, aircraft starts to track the localizer and then either turns right or left off the localizer. I am pretty sure it is operator error, but I have read all the manuals, the KFC is functioning exactly as described, but it won't fly a simple ILS. We can always hand fly, but after spending a bunch of dough, we are both engineers, we would like to watch our toy perform. Any ideas???? Next step is probably a call to the avionics shop, but I don't think any of those guys fly. Hopefully I can talk one of them into a demo ride as there is an ILS at their non-tower controlled airport.
  8. Paid 140 for a 1300ttaf 50 engine and new prop and couldn't be happier. Cherry new airplane. Same Cirrus would be 3-5 times the outlay. Perfect airplane like new and Seattle to Detroit in 10 hours. Love the 205
  9. Nothing is easier to steal than an airplane. Cut two ground wires and wave bye bye. Camlocks for doors and baggage are cheap, easy to install, and can be purchased KA. (Keyed alike) from any lockshop.
  10. Trust your watch. Whenever I even think about low fuel, I land and get some. My J has 750 NM legs. Plus or minus. Should never be a concern for me if I did any flight planning. Seattle to Detroit. 4 stops and about 2 hours of fuel still in the tanks at every stop.
  11. My 87 205, unlike my 83 J that folded so easily, is plush and so thick that I finally gave up and just let the clubs have the seats. Probably factory as SN 1 was probably factory and they wanted it to have a coach look.
  12. Original owner probably an engineer. Second owner and A&P. Airplane is like new. Seattle to Detroit 10 hrs flight time. 170 TAS I can send you a pic. Prox 70% power at 7000 burning 11.5. My first 83 201 was great. This 205 is fabulous.
  13. Just bought a 87 205. HSI. KFD 150 Center arm rest....big deal 1300 TT with new prop and Premier overhaul. Paid 140 and ecstatic. Basically a new faster (a little) J like new airplane. Probably my last airplane unless I hit the lottery and I couldn't be happier. Electric cowl flaps and ram air. You can probably steal it from my widow. Enjoy
  14. You have a monster fast (fuel guzzling) aircraft. You could afford to buy it, now feed it and enjoy.
