Haunted how? Ghosts of people killed in irresponsible boating accidents?

The lake was created by flooding a community in a valley (including a cemetery).

It has a very high number of drowning deaths. Some say because it is cursed. I just remember how many incompetent boaters there were when I grew up sailing on it. Most of the drownings are boating related.

  2. Thought I'd throw in my recent fuel smell experience for posterity.

Never really noticed a smell during taxi, takeoff, climb out. One in cruise and leaning, would start to notice smell and it never cleared, just kept smelling for the duration of the flight.

I had an avionics project done (new panel, engine instruments and sensors, and Cies senders) not too long ago.

Initially though senders gasket leaking, but no blue, maybe gascolator, no blue. Never saw blue on the gear legs, wings, belly, anywhere I could see without unscrewing something.

Turns out it was the fuel pressure sensor fitting. (Opinion of the shop is that the avionics installer put an old fitting on the pressure sensor and never leak checked). Fuel was power washing the firewall... And right over the cabin air intake and exhaust.

    Yikes!

I even had an oil change once in the meantime and the leak wasn't noticed by the shop that did the change.

Next time I smell fuel, I'm just going to land or go straight to the shop.

  3. When I upgraded my M20J panel to a Garmin G500TXi with EIS system earlier this year, the shop replaced the existing tach timer's oil pressure sensor switch with the Garmin sensor and were not able to hook the ship's legacy tach timer back up.

As a result the legacy tach timer (over in the passenger footwell) no longer increments, and only the Garmin system/EIS shows the tach time increasing.  I haven't thought much of this, but it raised a question from my shop who normally does my oil changes.  Figure I'll have to answer this question more times in the future... Which I'd like to avoid.

I just pinged my avionics shop about this and they suggested removing the original gauge and putting a blanking plate over it.

    2 questions...

Is it possible (or advisable, if possible) to have both tach gauges running (and in sync)?

Also, is removing the legacy tach and installing a blanking plate in its place what most people do after doing a panel upgrade, or maybe placard it inop?

    Thanks!

Make sure you replace all placards required in the limitations section of the AFM/POH before the next annual or ramp check. ;)

Ran through the book and everything looks there, except the RPM limitation is no longer on the right panel adjacent to the tachometer, but directly below the Vernier controls.  Would that be improper? I suppose it would be possible to comply with half of the description if placed adjacent to the tachometer which is now in the left instrument panel.

    Could you let us know how you decided to get the GTN 650Xi + GNC255 versus a GTN750Xi + GNC355 (two WASS units plus two comm units) or a GTN650Xi + GNC355 or a GTN750Xi + GTN650Xi?

Because I wanted a second NAV radio and I didn't want to pay the premium for two GTNs.

what made you decide to go with the G500txi versus the G3X Touch? Seems like most people choosing the G500 are interfacing with a legacy AP, but the G3X Touch and the GFC500 (nee G3X AP) were cut from the same clot

I asked a lot of people and the answer was strongly biased towards the G500. Mostly people vastly more experienced than me, many on MooneySpace as well.

A guess that future integration options would be better or more flexible.

Both seemed comparable enough, but after so many chats with shops and PIREPs from owners it seemed hard to imagine the price premium isn't justified.

  6. I'm in this exact same boat right now.  I've got my M20J at the avionics shop currently and they're doing a new panel, including the Artex 345.  However, I asked him to hold off on the ELT for now because he said he'd have to install the whip into a new hole with a doubler.  He suggested that even if he were to grind off the cherry max rivets holding down the fairing that the ELT antenna wouldn't fit (I assume he's talking about the whip though, not a blade style).

What is the compatible blade antenna that fits under the dorsal fin for the Artex 345?

    Thanks! Derek

  7. The job (all new Garmin stuff) is underway!  Just got the following pic from the shop.

    In 8 weeks should have a G500Txi (+EIS and Cies Senders), GTN650Xi, PMA 450b, GI-275, GFC500, GNC255, GTX345, GDL69A, and the Airtex 345 here.

  8. Last 2 annuals were at a MSC. Getting one done by a different shop this time around.

My IA sent me the attached picture of the chain.

Sort of surprised me that the chain was in this state. Is the chain something that is normally cleaned up and greased at annual? I even had a new trim chain cover installed 2019 annual (because it was missing)...

How long would it take to accumulate that amount of funk on the chain? And what's the risk associated? Chain corrodes and breaks due to gunk in the grease? Gunk causes it to jam?

New owner... Trying to learn things...

    Thanks!

  9. I'm going to clean this stuff out, but before I do wondering what y'all think it is.

I haven't opened up this lens since acquiring the plane a few years ago. And honestly I never looked so closely inside it so I haven't noticed it until now.

Does stuff tend to blow around inside the wing and accumulate in the lens area?

Hoping it's detritus from some old situation before my time. Either way going to ask for some boroscope action at annual this fall.
