  1. I need to replace my upper (thank God) in cylinder #3 of a Lycoming o-235-C2C. In reviewing the FAA's maintenance manual, vol. 1, CH 5, I noted an absence of and type of adhesive such as locktite, etc. Any comments on that? Note: All of my owner assist MX is performed with a certified A&P/AI. I'll let you know how I do.
  2. Have you considered maybe taking it somewhere else completely? Locally here in central Oklahoma, David J Perry (1k4) has covered hangar space for 85/month (blow thru). Three sided for 95/month. Something to consider. It is particularly dry here during the winter and we do not get heaps of snow, Have it ferried out. J
  3. Who is your metal building supplier? I work for Alliance Steel Inc. We do PEMP just as you have shown. Thank you.
  4. Anyone notice this Mooney just sitting on the ramp at Williston Airport? I saw this airplane sitting dead center on the west side of the ramp when I was there last month. I called the FBO, the guy was nice enough to tell me the N Number so I could find this image on the net. He said he has been working at X60 for 7 years and it has never flown (some run ups). The locals tell me corrosion isn't too bad in northcentral Florida. Is this aircraft salvageable? I'm sure the engine is toast. I was wondering about the airframe. Thoughts?
  5. I will definitely be giving these guys a call next time I visit friends in Lake City. I just made my first breakfast flight in Florida last month. 15FL to X60. Cannon Creek Airpark to Williston. Williston has a nice restaurant. Greasy spoon goodies, cheap, good service.
  6. Yes I did. Thank you. I'm finding out there is a lot to consider when looking at a panel upgrade. This plane, I think all I want is a fun flyer so I am not going to go too extravagant. ~J~
  7. Lancecasper and hammdo, I have an old Loran II Morrow in my panel. Since the GX series is no longer an option, are you saying that a GPS 175, or a GNX375 would fin without much work on wiring? I would like to go direct from Loran to GPS 175 if possible. Looking for ideas. Thanks!
  8. I haven't gone back to look at the log books to see if it even flew at all. Somehow I doubt it has. I can call Glen and ask but since i'm not going to make an offer, it doesn't matter.
  9. Price drop! 29,500... Looks like this guy is getting tired of 300/mo hangar space.... :-D ~J~
  10. Thank you everyone for your input. All things considered, does it seem like now is not the time to buy? Is everything about 10K too high in asking price? I can barely find a Cessna 152 for less than 25k advertised in all the listings available. What are your thoughts?
  11. I did open the box but did not notice one. I guess I'll look again. Thanks.
  12. Where did you get the placard? Did you just make one? I'm about to install the Uavionix TailBeacon on the Grumman. Thanks in advance.
  13. When I find the right one, that's exactly what I'll do! ;-)
  14. I'm pretty sure a Mooney M20C will fit my needs fo a long time to come. It's just me and my wife. Thanks
  15. It appears this plane has been flown 50/hours or less for the past 20 years if I remember correctly. ~J~
  16. Jim this airplane is in my own back yard. We already looked at it. More than likely, I will be following the rule of "never buy the first plane you look at". I doubt the seller will go for the 25k and I think 25k is a fair price as you do. ~J~
  17. Jim, thank you for the price point. I was thinking the same thing. What does SB stand for? Thanks again.
  18. It has been hagared for the last several years at least. Given the minor hail pings, that indicates that it has spent time on the ramp. Chris and I did look at the logs. It had many 100 hr inspections in its early days. It was flown a lot in its early days. The logs show that the engine was rebuilt in 1981. the language states to factory spec. ~J~
  19. Well, I did it. A friend of mine and i looked at a M20C. The broker (my flight instructor at KGOK) told me this was originally sold as a D with fixed gear and prop and converted back to a C with retract and constant speed prop later. It's pretty fit. I think it's a project but it appears to be a solid foundation. Obviously there are no modern avionics which I'm okay with that. there are some minor hail pings on the control surfaces. I really wish it were cleaned up so I could get a better look. This aircraft is priced at 32.5K. It needs ADS-B, and modern panel. Engine has 1170 SMOH. Total time 3814. What is your opinion on this airplane? My position: mechanic (life long not A&P) machinist, former harley builder, car builder. mission: flying around in my local sandbox for 5 years, time to get out. just me and my wife. This may be a partnership. 20. There was an A model for sale in Okmulgee, Oklahoma not too long ago. Does this sound familiar?
  21. I'm studying for my written right now. I am using the Jeppesen IFR/Commercial kit. I also can recommend a program called Dauntless Found here. I used this for my private as well. I'm scoring in the 80s on my practice tests and will get an endorsement to take the written when I score in the 90s five times in a one week period. Then I will go fly a lot (although I am flying some already). This is not the fastest way to get it. Maybe even the slowest but it will work and I will know the material.
  22. I fired my first CFI as well for the very same reasons. And, it just so happens I was also 40 at the time. Best decision I ever made. The next school I went to was run by a guy (Glenn Crabtree at KGOK) that had been instructing since before I was born. Never said a word unless he needed to while I was flying and followed a general syllabus pretty much from memory.
  23. I would pay 150.00 in a heartbeat. Has anyone had an entire set of logs scanned complete?
  24. I was reading the part 1 of the how to buy a Mooney (great stuff. thanks for the link). It seems like it would take quite a few hours to pour through the logs for a novice buyer. How long would it usually take for an AI to go through a 50+ year old airplane's logs? I would think at least a few hours. Has any first time buyers done a log inspection and if so, how long did it take you to record everything?
