  1. I find the urge to pull can be quite overpowering when racing towards a treeline with 70 mph, and that's even while being calm and prepared for it and you know what's coming. Now when more than half the runway is behind you already, then attempting a go-around, and you're looking at 50' trees... I imagine this can be very hard to maintain enough discipline to keep the nose down.
  2. I found a video my wife took in 2020 of me taking off from the now paved runway in Sundridge South River. Maybe this can add some context to this accident. This was a soft-field TO and once in ground effect I got startled by the trees that were coming closer quickly. You can see me trying to raise the nose to get out of ground effect a bit too early.
  3. I'm very sad about this. I've been to Sundridge South River a few times. It's a nice little airpark with two runways, one hard packed turf, and one recently paved 2600'. The airport is surrounded by trees and some terrain depending on the runway. A friend told me that the accident aircraft porpoised a few times, attempted to go around, and then became inverted and went into the trees.
  4. Thanks. Is there any reason to choose one over the other? Duke rebuild vs new Weldon pump?
  5. Hi all! The aircraft is a 1975 M20F with an IO-390 engine. Tried to start the engine today as usual - Mixture Idle, Master On, Boost Pump On: Zero fuel pressure. The fuel pressure needle didn't move at all. The pump made a slightly different sound than usual, a little grinding noise, sounded like you'd run the pump on an empty tank. I tried to cycle it a few times, playing with the mixture, switching fuel tanks, etc., but nothing on the fuel pressure. Couldn't see any fuel drips or leaks. However, when cranking the starter I did get some fuel pressure from the engine-driven pump and the engine did start after a few seconds. This makes me think the fuel system is fine, just the boost pump is shot. I believe it's the original Duke fuel pump, I couldn't find any record of it ever being replaced. Before I order a Weldon pump... any other ideas?
  6. WE THE NORTH Back to topic: The Mooney has a 2009 engine overhaul, but only 100+some hours TSOH. So only a couple of hours every year. How much of a concern would that be?
  7. Hello everyone! I'm looking at purchasing a 1975 Mooney M20F Exec and have a pre-buy inspection scheduled. I'm wondering if there's anything specific I should ask the AME to look into. Besides the obvious stuff like corrosion, compliance with ADs, compressions, gears, etc. Are there any issues the M20F is known to develop and that would be easy to overlook? Thanks for your advice!
