  1. Hello fellow mooneys! I'd love to arrange a lunch/dinner at the lovely Sedona Airport sometime. Anybody interested? '79 Mooney Rocket checking in!
  2. Loss of engine power. No one injured. N3254F looks to be the tail number. https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2021/02/23/small-plane-crashes-car-emergency-landing-livermore-airport/
  3. I've been getting that error in Garmin Pilot as well. This was only encountered when filing through Leidos. When I file through my fltplan.com account that's synced I have no issue. ::shrug::
  4. Well, just got off the phone with my IA. The MO for the engine recommends an overhaul of the fuel system every 10-12 years. Seeing as the engine was installed in and hasn't had the service in the past, it's way past due lol. So the entire fuel system is being removed and sent to a continental shop for overhaul. The also set all the parameters at that time. Mixture the whole 9 yards. $3000 and 4 week turnaround but hey, airplanes right?
  5. Yeah, I've never see.n it so high. Something has failed, and reading this one article, it seems it could be many things. https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2015/april/22/repair-tips-for-failed-fuel-injection-system-components
  6. My IA said he spoke with the technicians at Continental. He was told that there are diaphrams in the engine that can slowly slip out of its "adjustment" over time. The SB that is mentioned earlier is actually part of the official maintenance manual now and must be checked every annual. I don't know the exact wording of it. I'll talk to him either tomorrow or Monday and post an more detailed update in here when I do.
  7. I'm curious why you advise to not doing this to cool the lines. I have a Rocket with the TSIO-520-NB. Starting these hot is a real pain. I've tried the cooling technique before. Throttle full, mixture cutoff, high boost for 60 seconds. My Shadin FF never registers a flow, stays at 0 GPH while doing this. It has worked a couple of times. I live in the desert so trying to restart when its 105 outside is no fun. It seems my best luck is when following the procedure in the Rocket POH for a hot start. It's hot start procedure is to flood the engine and do a flooded start. Its unfortunate but it works in the heat.
  8. Shout out to M20Doc! Found this in a reply to a thread about starting issues with an 20k. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.twincessna.org/pdf/SID97-3G.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwihg-bysM_nAhVPuZ4KHe6nB5AQFjAAegQIBRAC&usg=AOvVaw3-IMH__Wwc8PVR4eQBbn99
  9. Also, everything was in the green. Cht all below 340 TiT 1400 Oil temp 175 Plenty of manifold pressure.
  10. Its annual time. I was planning on a quick 30 minute flight to warm her up for the oil change. On downwind I was advised by unicom that I was trailing black smoke. No oil was lost, still had 11qts after landing. I did notice that my fuel flow on takeoff was rather high. 40GPH. Isnt the TSIO-520NB supposed to be at 33GPH at full throttle? Thoughts?
  11. Yay! As for a Rocket Gathering...all current and former owners are invited! Maybe we should have a meetup to coincide with the Reno Air Races in September. Anyone ever been to the races?
  12. Sorry if I offended with my post... The more you know
  13. Omg stop it... Now I'm looking at the for sale section on controller... https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/24382513/2006-lancair-iv-p
  14. Well... I see an N1 reading, ITT, redline of 220kts at 33GPH... Is this a turbine mooney?
  15. Dag nabbit! I'm jealous. I want mine rigged like that!! Can the adjustments that are needed be found in the service manual?! Is it rigging hardware or just an adjustment?
  16. Agreed. I never go below 2400 rpm. I don't even wanna mess with the 2300 baseline. I find myself running 31" which gives me 19gph and 1595 TIT. If I want to go economy I use 26"/2400 at 15gph and 1600 TIT. That's my "LOP" equivalent.
  17. Eh, I cant really complain. It's still a quick airplane for sure. Gotta love a 13 knot tailwind. https://flightaware.com/live/flight/N513SB/history/20200202/2045Z/KUDD/KFFZ/tracklog I just wish i could get the TAS that rocket said is possible at that altitude...i wish they were honest lol. I'll always be yearning for that extra 10 knots.
  18. Well boys, there's only one way to solve this mystery... MS Rocket Race!
  19. Exactly. Since I am doing CFI afterwards, I am making a complete sheet of everything in ASA's oral prep book. Writing down everything helps the memory retain things much better than just reading it...even the stuff I know very well.
  20. Awesome, thanks Philip! Now the mission begins. My annual is in a couple weeks. Any other Rocket owners intrigued?
  21. I'm glad I can reach everything with my seat all the way back (well, not the pedals...but everything else!)
  22. Rad! Wish I could take 4 people...but they'd have to be rather small. I'm 6'3/225lbs
  23. Can we just pin this thread please?!
  24. Yeah, living in Palm Springs doesn't offer too many opportunities to get actual time. I just knock it out in the sim. Cheap and easy way to stay current.
