  1. My IA says the rudder play on my C is beyond tolerance. Him and I are scratching our heads on how to access the rod end to correct it. Anyone here do this on a Mooney? Did you have to drill out rivets and remove skins?
  2. Just got my plane back from shop. And they cleaned up the wiring under the panel and the yoke now moves noticeably more freely. Also now when I move the ailerons the rudder moves slightly. It didn’t used to do that. What do the controls feel and behave like on other Cs?
  3. Working fine on the ground. But after takeoff it continues to read 2700 rpm even after setting cruise climb power. The governor is working because I can hear the engine speed responding normally when I move the prop speed knob. This is the old style mechanical tach on my m20c Is there some kind of pixie dust I can sprinkle on it to make it act normal?
  4. It comes with an STC. But I want to make sure everything is good
  5. New carburettor is on now. Had to cancel test flight today because it’s failing mag check. When I switch to left mag I get a 300 rpm drop, rough running, and popping sounds from the exhaust. Oh the joys of owning an airplane
  6. I’ll ask them to check for intake leaks. The last time I had an intake leak it was caused by a warp in the in flange on the intake pipe on Cyl no 2 where it lands on the cylinder. It was backfiring at idle. Its not doing that now What it’s doing now is the idle was creeping down lower and lower and I’m being told there is no more room to adjust it back up. Also the engine is dying on my landing roll outs.
  7. Wouldn’t an intake leak make it run too lean?
  8. It’s been a few decades so I’m inclined to believe it’s time to give that carb some TLC
  9. What are the symptoms of a carburettor that needs servicing or replacement? Started happening about 2 weeks ago on my 1966 C. Engine died on landing rollout last four flights even after shop has been adjusting the idle up. Min Idle had dropped to 500 with no explanation. It now at 600 rpm. Still having issues and A&P both said there is no room to adjust it more. Idle mixture seems to be set correctly because I get the 50 rpm rise before shutdown when I pull the mixture. Also lots of coughing and missing at low power on ground when engine is hot. I agreed to get an exchange carburettor coming because I think that is the safest bet here. Seems to run fine at takeoff and cruise power but I think I should keep it in the hangar until the new carb is on.
  10. After banking right my vacuum AI shows a right bank after the airplane has returned to straight and level. Would my Britain wing leveler still work if I replaced this with a solid state AI?
  11. I Didn’t think of that. They must get a lot of late night freight in there. ForeFlight says the tower at KMHR is open till 2330 on weekdays
  12. It seems like a strange requirement. Commercial Pilot candidates need 5 hours solo at night and 10 takeoff and landing at a towered field at night. Not sure if they have to be full stop landings like they do for night currency to carry pax.
  13. I’m working on my commercial certificate and need 10 night landings at a field with an operating control tower. The only one near me open that late is Sacramento International. Ha anyone here done this recently? How did it go?
  14. I’ve been asked to do this for my uncle. He was a pilot and a life long aviation enthusiast and this was one of his last wishes. Has anyone here ever done this with a Mooney? Maybe I should rent a Cessna instead? I was thinking while in 75 mph slow flight I could use the storm window to push a paper bag out. P.S. F*ck cancer
  15. Thanks to Kevin my autopilot is working well now. It tracks a heading almost as well as any modern gps auto pilot I’ve ever used.
  16. Static system was checked Friday for 24 months required cert. he said there is a small leak but that it wasn’t bad enough to worry about
  17. It’s the kind that has heading, track, capture and loc modes. I started by trying the heading mode. Set at 090 it’ll track 130. Set at 180 it’ll hold 165. Set at 270 it’ll hold 260. Set at 360 it’ll hunt back and forth between 330 and 030. But sometimes it doesn’t do anything at all lol It also seems like it try to capture and track radials from a VOR but never seems to settle The altitude hold if it’s doing anything at all gives me plus and minus 300’ or more
  18. Let’s all try a little harder to keep this a place where everyone feels welcome and respected. Healthy discussion and debate is great but let’s not get personal. I’m just trying to make sure I can fly my plane without making the FAA ramp checker have a big frowny face at me.
  19. I emailed my nearest FSDO to ask them if I can fly a plane with expired 24 month transponder certification. The reply was that they used to say it’s ok in airspace not requiring a transponder and to turn it off. But he was unsure about nowadays with ADSB and would get back to me about it. I’m Still waiting to hear. However I do have an appointment for someone to come to my hangar Friday to do my pitot static and transponder cert. They said they don’t do anything with the ADSB capability during their test so I would think it should not be a factor regarding this issue.
  20. The only reason I worry about dotting my Ts and crossing my eyes with inspections and certifications is insurance companies. If something happens I don’t want to give them any excuse
  21. Does anyone know who/where near Sacramento or East east bay area ti contact to get my plane pitot and transponder tested?
  22. So the plane can’t fly IFR if expired but is it 100% grounded until certified? Would I have to get a ferry permit to go to a certification shop?
  23. AI and DG in my M20C are both starting to act a little funny. I’d like to replace them with G5s or something but have some concerns. Mark at TopGun once told me without the wing leveler the plane is not IFR anymore because it was certified with the wing leveler. Does that mean I need an autopilot up grade too? Yikes $$$ Also what do people do about their vacuum powered step retract? Can I just fix it in place? How much speed does that step cost me?
  24. IA recommend only one turn on adjustment screw. Weather broke today for test flight. And governor now keeps the prop less than 30 or 40 rpm over 2700 now. Maybe another 1/4 turn on the screw would nail it, IA thinks we should leave it be, he doesn’t want to over do it.
