  1. I agree and wish Dynon's autopilot was approved but not sure when that will happen. We will be running all the wiring and have the control plate cut out. I got the idea from the J Bellow. @ArtVandelay Thanks for the Ram mount idea, yours looks great!
  2. So a few years ago I purchased what I believe will be my forever plane. A 1979 M20k, I planned to slowly upgrade the airplane. After being parked at the ramp in Van Nuys for 3 days my Mooney had a 3 in crack in the windshield starting from the center bottom. New windshield was ordered from a cheaper unnamed website and after not receiving it for over 3 months I switched to LP Aero-plastics and within a couple weeks had a new windshield. It was not easy to remove, after removing it there was so much access to the rear of the panel. Not wanting to ever remove the windshield again, I opted to wait for finances to line up allowing for an upgrade to a new panel before reinstalling the windshield. Fast forward almost a year and I have ordered a Dynon HDX system with the D30, transponder, ADSB in-out, Engine monitor, COM etc. It will be paired with a GPS 175 and PS Eng PAR200 COM/Audio panel. The Century 41 Autopilot works great so the plan for now is to keep the vacuum system with Attitude and HSI to drive the autopilot. It will be installed in the cutout for the 10inch screen for now. So now its time to work on the Layout. Below is what the panel currently looks like. Does anyone have a CAD file of a J or K Panel? Any suggestions on layout? Thanks Everyone
  3. @danM20c Hey Dan, Yes you are correct. All turbo mooneys have a factory fuel flow. I am adding a second for the installation of a JPI 830 engine monitor, because its not a primary instrument i have to keep the factory and add a second. Jesse
  4. Wow! Thanks everyone for the help, i did not know about the SB and sure thing the primer valve is leaking fuel. We will be removing it per the SB. Does anyone have a photo of their transducer mount, this is an additional flow sensor for the JPI engine monitor. Jesse Cruz
  5. @philiplane @carusoam @M20Doc Thank you for all the insight, I will make sure we have strait fittings in and out and consider firewall mounting since there is allot of heat/vibration in the current placing. Will see how it runs with the flow sensor removed, to make sure the issue is actually related to the flow sensor. Also just read the SB19-01 thanks. Jesse
  6. Hi everyone, I have an 231 M20k TSIO360, just installed a JPI 830 with fuel flow transducer. The engine sat for about 6 weeks while hoses got ordered from Herber, upon start up the engine runs rough and stumbles. It will idle just fine but anything above 1000 rpm the engine will run rough and stumble. Unless primer is hit, then everything smoothes out for a few seconds. If the mixture is leaned at all the engine will quit. Only ran it for 2-3 mins since it was the end of day, will try again tomorrow and the mechanic will remove the flow sensor see if things run smooth with out it. The JPI showed a 4-5GPH, EGTs lower on Clyn 5&6. Any ideas? I have attached a photo bellow.
  7. Yes I have looked into MAPA they have a PPP about 100 miles north of me in April, I plan to attend if I am a mooney owner by then. A Mooney owner-knowledgeble CFI for the transition is one thing that i dont know how to approach. I have asked a few pilots and no one seems to know one or how to find one.
  8. @jaylw314 @gsxrpilot @Oldguy One of my fears in jumping into a Mooney is all the prop strike stories I’ve read about, a mistake like that would hurt my wallet and self-esteem beyond repair. I truly appreciate all the tips and will definitely put extra work on my landings with a focus on hitting all the right speeds before the transition. My second fear and this applies to the purchase of any plane is all the horror stories related to maintenance. Although the one @Yetti pointed out takes the prize and makes me want to run for the hills. However my purpose for the plane is to use the plane for trips and vacations to visit family and friends most of those will be about 150 nm though my sister is up in Oregon close to 900nm away. Renting is not feasible due to hour minimums for overnights and inflated cost in my area 180hr for a piper 28 140. The appeal of buying over flying commercial is that I’ve always dreamed of flying and of the freedom owning your own plane seems to offer. Though based on unexpected maintenance it seems the right financial word might be shackles. But I guess the sentence bellow describes my reasons for wantting to take the plunge: “For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.” Leonardo da Vinci
  9. Hi I’m a student pilot (37hrs) interested in buying my first plane, I got the chance to fly an M20e and could not believe the speed, climb and value of the aircraft. I know its complex, but am I crazy in thinking that its best to learn in the plane you will be flying than having to constantly transition into new aircraft? I plan to complete my PPL in a Cherokee then use the Mooney to get my IFR certification. My budget for the plane is 30-50k with 5-8k per year for maintenance, is that too low? Any recommendations for a Mooney instructor and Mechanic for a good PPI. I am in the LA area flying out of KVNY.
