  2. Anyone have a source for rubber doghouse seal part number 600210-7? Not having much luck. Thanks!
  3. Us 250 from Elkins to Monterey VA. Goes up over Cheat Mountain....awesome ride.
  4. Agreed. Definitely watch the weather closely...Airmets for mountain obscuration for that whole region will tip you off. Plan your arrival/departure times to avoid evening and early morning if you want to avoid IMC...sometimes low IMC. I haven’t been to AVL, but have been into KHSP to the north a few times which is one of the highest public access airports in the east (the highest??). Cloud ceilings during the afternoon and fog at both ends of the day are commonly an issue if VFR. Beautiful place to fly though...
  5. I went up on the fourth in NE Ohio many years ago. I thought it was pretty cool!
  6. I fly the same aircraft with Boilermonkey. Last time I flew her, she sputtered and popped a little advancing the throttle too quickly on the takeoff roll. Accelerator pump seems a likely culprit.
  7. Ha! Probably. Wish I lived closer. I’d help with the recovery. 29U is squawked with a gear issue....
  8. Yep. That was my aircraft. I missed all of the fun, it sound like! I would have helped you measure. I did talk to the airport staff for a while and they mentioned the fence as a formidable problem.... There was a nice Gulfstream sitting on the ramp next to my aircraft when I left. Was that yours? Definitely a small world. Glad you and yours are ok. Nice work putting her back down in the field.
  9. Sorry if I offended with the title. Again, glad everyone is ok and yes...great airmanship to put it back down in that spot.
  10. Fair enough. It definitely looks recoverable. I’m just glad everyone is ok.,
  11. I just made a flight into Springfield Ohio (KSGH) this morning. When I went into the terminal, they mentioned that a Mooney went down last night...lost power at 300 feet. Everyone is ok and the aircraft was largely undamaged. Tail number N201P. Was it anyone from here?
  12. Thanks for being brave enough to put this out there. If nothing else, this gets each of us to revisit our personal minimums and evaluate our preflight procedures as we think through your experience. That is valuable in and of itself. I am half way through my instrument training. I’ve not yet been in the situation, but I’m not doing VFR on top until I finish my instrument ticket.
  13. I filed last night using Fltplan.com and had the same experience as gsxrpilot. Clearance was ready five minutes later when I called ground. Things are pretty well connected now.
  14. Looks good! Where did you end up purchasing the discs? Were you able to beat the $106?
  15. Tommy made a great point earlier. Touch and goes can teach how to execute a balked landing after touchdown in a relatively safe environment (i.e. CFI sitting beside you familiar with Mooneys). Seems to me on other threads there is considerable concern about bounced landings leading to prop strikes being one of the leading causes of high insurance rates. The number one suggest course of action? Go around on the first bounce or otherwise known as a touch and go. Touch and go is an important skill to learn with some instruction and stay proficient. One might argue that you avoid touch and goes during normal solo landing practice on a practice day. Maybe do a few to stay proficient, but focus on other aspects of landing practice and dont' take on the additional risk. But I'm in the camp of touch and goes are fine if you are proficient. If you are uncomfortable with touch and goes, you better get comfortable with them before your next bounced landing or Bambi runway incursion. Time to practice.
  16. Looks like KRKP didn't fare so well. This image from CNN...is that a Mooney in the background under the rubble?
  17. Thanks for the further thoughts everyone! The insurance requires 5 hours dual and 5 hours solo before carrying passengers. I imagine I will feel fairly comfortable by then. Further, I will be finishing up my instrument training in the Mooney. So I should get the cross country and hood time with an instructor that many of you mentioned. I think that will be important. I flew it for 0.7 the other day and did some basic air work with the instructor to get a feel for it. It was immediately clear it wasn't a 172! It's quick! Flight control feel is TOTALLY different as well, as some of you have mentioned. I did two landings and thought it was actually easier to land than the 172 (two landings clearly qualifies me to make that statement). It is a nice flying machine though...I think I'm going to like this! Thanks for all of the thoughts and advice. Much appreciated.
  18. Thanks for all of the great input! I have a little studying to do (POH) then get out and fly! I'll let you know how it goes.
  19. First time caller, but I've been lurking for a bit. It looks like I will be entering a partnership on a 1963 M20C. If all goes well on the annual next week, I'm in. Super excited about it and I have learned quite a bit from this forum already. I am a 100 hour pilot with all of my time in Cessnas, primarily the 172. I'm only a few hours from my instrument checkride and I've been flying quite a bit in the last year. The person from whom I'm purchasing the share is a CFI and we are planning extensive transition training for me. I've been reading the recent threads on landings with great interest. What are the watch outs for me and what should we emphasize in the training? Thanks in advance for the thoughts!
