  1. Thanks so much for this pointer, you're absolutely right! I changed the setting on the 750 and VNAV now shows up when I expect it to. I also found it described in the Garmin G5 installation manual (http://static.garmin.com/pumac/190-01112-10_21.pdf) under 5.8.2 GTN 6XX/7XX Configuration. Thanks everyone else for the input!
  2. Thanks Don for confirming how it is supposed to work, that helps me be confident it is not working correctly. Bob, I will try all the steps you mentioned next time I fly. I wonder if I haven't been setting the altitude bug at the correct time (but I think I have at least tried setting it really early and still never seeing vnav). And thanks for the input everyone. The 750 is set to VNAV and not VCALC in the configuration. VNAV is also enabled.
  3. Yes to both. The 750 is set to VNAV, I confirmed this in the configuration page myself. It also gets the altimeter setting from the G5 as far as I can see in the inputs, but I do not know if there's something else that need to be enabled there.
  4. Dear experts. I have two G5s paired with a GTN 750. The G5s displays glideslopes from the 750 just fine (ILS, LPV, visual glideslopes etc), but it does not display any VNAV glideslope from the altitude constraints entered into the flight plan. On the 750, I see the TOD marker and get the "1 minute to descent" alarms when I have set altitude constraints in the flight plan. But I've never seen that show as a VNAV glideslope on the G5, which according to the G5 manual (and garmin) it should support. Is there a setting to enable this VNAV glideslope to show up on the G5 or is something misconfigured?
  5. Thanks! I have looked through aircraft spruce but they do not have anything that doesn't weigh a lot. Sound isolation is nice but not if it's going to add pounds of weight for a small area.
  6. Our plane (1978 M20J) has the SB-208 done - but the insulation was only replaced around the cabin. Back around the baggage area there is still the old glass fiber insulation both on the walls and ceiling. I'd like to replace this insulation with something that does not absorb water and isn't a pain to deal with. Can someone suggest a good replacement for the standard yellow glassfiber insulation? I'm not even sure insulation is necessary so I would be interested in opinions on that too.
  7. I've seen Aspens installed in a few airplanes. With synthetic vision turned on, it appears the display is only updating a few times a second. This makes updates appear jerky, and honestly it's harder to fly off the instruments with such a slow response. The update frequency is a bit higher with synthetic vision off, but still much lower than any other glass panel I've seen. I may have been looking at older Aspen units - has this improved in newer versions of the unit or is this on all models? Is there anything you can do to improve it?
  8. Thanks for the replies! You're right, it's an IIB and not a 41B. Good catch. I also didn't know about the STEC PSS option (http://www.chiefaircraft.com/st-sys-60-pss.html). I'd have to get a quote for what it takes to install this. I still assume it'll need a separate servo.
  9. That would be nice, though that sounds like a big task (25k + install?). Is there any indication that they are going to make it available for Mooney? It seemed to be 172,182 and Piper in that order.
  10. Oh wise Mooney experts... For an older Mooney with a Century 41B autopilot (single axis, roll & heading) I wonder what the upgrade options are. The plane is equipped with electric trim. It seems to me the cheapest would be an autopilot that interfaces with the existing ap servo and electric trim. Do any such upgrades exist? Alternatively, any ideas for the cheapest way to get a working 2-axis autopilot in there? Thanks!
