  1. What confuses me is why did this guy not delete the video?
  2. That does look interesting. Never heard of it, seems too good to be true. Anytime I see “military” I think megabucks.
  3. The fundamental problem seems to be that anything that will shed ice won’t stick to the wing to start with. Same problem they have with getting Teflon to stick to the pan (I think they bake it on). Maybe glue a wick to the leading edge and light it in the cockpit and it will melt the ice as it goes. One time use only. Or better yet detcord.
  4. You can't practically rent that for trips, it flies multiple times a day for MEL instruction. I am currently finishing my multi in it and I have trouble scheduling it for even a couple hours at a time. It is the 100LL version though, made for training, and lacks the FADEC diesels and no TKS. Independence down at KAPA has a Baron for rent, but same issue. I haven't found a single twin in the Denver area that isn't booked solid for training. McAir won't even rent their twin w/o an instructor I am told. I've been looking for someone willing to partner on a DA42 FADEC but haven't had any luck finding anyone interested, or even anyone who knows anything about the newer diesels. I was kicked off of the Diamond forums despite regularly renting multiple Diamonds because I don't actually own one, so that wasn't a great experience either. I'm primarily interested in it for the bubble view, extra baggage in the nose, quiet cabin (no prop or engine out front– with throttles pulled back it sounds like a glider), and secondarily the safety of two mills (with a proper pilot) over the mountains. Also two props is just cool.
  5. How easy is the sticky pad to remove?
  6. The above products seem to work on a different philosophy than TKS/glycol-, rather than lowering the melting point of water like TKS fluid, they let it freeze, but don't let it stick. This seems to work for at least some of those products, so then the question is back to "does it stick well enough to last a flight". I would love to see a test of one of the products that purport to do just this, it could really add to the safety margin in the winter, even for unprotected areas on planes that already have TKS. John
  7. Has anyone tried any of these? Marketed for propellers: http://www.oregonaircraftdesign.com/iceaway.html Many applications: http://www.neverwet.com/applications/anti-icing.php Marketed for boots: http://www.sportys.com/pilotshop/bf-goodrich-ice-x-ii-16oz-spray-bottle.html John
  8. Well said gsxrpilot. It's worth noting Lycoming programmed their FADEC iE2 540 to run LOP. Hopefully that engine makes it into more airplanes, one less thing to worry about!
  9. KAPA in Denver might be a good bet. KFTG is a good airport also but it's a bit in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant is OK but nothing I would put in the scrapbook, Perfect Landing at KAPA might be better– there's often F-16s and other interesting airplanes on the ramp with all of the transients, I saw an SF50 and EA500 there last weekend. I'm new here so just my two cents. Anyone going to OshKosh? Sorry if there's already a thread, couldn't find it if so. Never been and would love to rideshare if anyone is headed that way from Denver.
