  1. Not getting a iran (better yet an overhaul) for a 30 year old engine that’s been left to sit after a prop strike is a very poor decision. Fix it right and stop worrying about upgrades right now. He basically gave you the airplane, now give it some proper love and make it great again! Dont worry about the instrument rating. Get some proper training on how to fly the aircraft. The last thing we need is another cheaply purchased aircraft getting a(nother) prop strike right off the bat. Good luck, it looks like you found a good deal.
  2. @Jack46here is a Link for some of the information you’re looking for.
  3. It would probably be easier to just toss in your camera and head for for a red circle on the map. You could get some really nice pics…
  4. Sometimes when the coupler lets go it can cause a lot of damage…almost 30k worth. Sometimes it causes fatal crashes like the a36 a few years back. Next time ours gets worked on it will have a new alternator, NEW not overhauled coupler, and installed by an insured shop.
  5. If this is a gear driven alternator I’d be very cautious going forward. Have a mechanic pull the alternator and see what’s going on internal to the engine. Make sure the unit is tested properly/fixed and an insured shop reinstalls the unit. NO way I’ll ever let a random IA/A&P touch my alternator again.
  6. Owner could have been on the back 9 during the incident…lease back options for rental might have been utilized.
  7. I’m not sure about the money comment as this was just a rental plane. Curious if a CFI was onboard doing flight training. This might have been just low time pilot working on his/her training. I wonder about the DR killer stigma when just about every new student pilot who has asked about planes lately is pushing for a K or long body. I don’t think it’s Dr’s I think it’s all the easy money.
  8. If my plan was to rent the plane to multiple individuals and let it sit outside in the elements I’d buy a 182. It would also make a better platform if you kids want to start learning how to fly…it’s not a 172 but far easier than a long body.
  9. I was burning 6.5 to 7 gph so TAS was pretty slow…~15% off normal cruise.
  10. I know if and when I can afford a turboprop I’ll have @KLRDMD over for dinner so he can explain to my wife how the plane will only be incrementally more expensive than my current ride.
  11. IMO you are thinking about this wrong. Buy and install the 540 for use as your main navigation and communication source. Use it a lot and learn how to utilize all the functions. It should make you a safer pilot…
  12. Route and altitude both steady and accurate.
  13. The other day approach at a class C airport said my adsb was not outputting correctly. I checked on flightaware and sure enough speed output is rapidly changing/oscillating between 100kts to 200kts. I have a 430w and 330es, I’m guessing a wire/connection problem but I’m not sure. Any ideas?
  14. I thought the 197/80 were failing? If so toss them and replace with the 540 in the center stack location. Instillation costs can get very expensive if you need to change a lot of the wiring. Keep the upgrade isolated to the 540 providing com 1 and outputting nav/gps data to the HSI. This 540 has been listed on Beechtalk and hasn’t sold yet…$9,750
  15. If you want to change any of the limits etc on a primary unit they normally want you to send it in. However, that’s not even needed. They can send the info to totally change the unit to a different aircraft…they just don’t want that data available/copied by the end user.
  16. I’d replace the gauge with cheap used unit. However, this is Mooneyspace so I’ll recommend a G3x with EIS to replace that gauge.
  17. Crossing fingers that it will interface with the Aspen pfd.
  18. Chip shortage…more time to plan out your panel.
  19. Same price I was quoted 1.5 years ago for a long body. Prices are going up fast, probably a good idea to nail down a price ASAP. People who always recommend waiting until everything else is complete are probably kicking themselves as the price has jumped over 30 percent in a few years.
  20. This is one beautiful Acclaim…
  21. @Aerodon Through the process I found a really nice shop that does silk screening. Top quality work and reasonable prices. Let me know if you want to try them out.
  22. I’d just fix what you have vs putting inop stickers on your panel.
  23. Supposedly even the Garmin g3x display is halting sales until August because of chip shortage. Glad we picked up a new one ton last year before everything went crazy.
  24. Or just even it out by taking sheet metal pliers to the other blade. Kick it old school with the Q-tip design. Being serious best option would be to buy one new blade and iran or overhaul the prop. Not many people upgrade from that prop, new might be your only option.
  25. With Garmin having the dual G5, dual 275, g3x, and txi options now I think Aspen is going to have a hard time selling units going forward. Kinda sad as I really like my PFD.
