  1. Already have two partners lined up for a really nice RV 6-9 to come along. When it does the C will be sold and I’ll have two nice partnerships...a 4 place all weather travel machine and a 2 place nice day flyer.
  2. The best plane to own is the one you know. I’d really hate for you to buy a C or E and drop another 30k to bring it up to speed / have another early engine failure. Honestly I thought the F you sold would have been a great base for a forever plane...
  3. I have a nice condition lifesaver w/o backup battery that was recently removed. Most are pretty durable with a 7k ish mtbf. I’d probably recommend going with two 275’s if you want to spend more.
  4. AP parts have dropped dramatically in the last 6 months. People that at one time would buy for future breakdowns are realizing now the parts will be plentiful and cheaper when needed. The 256/525 used to have value now people are almost giving them away. Probably Larry’s number above for everything is pretty close. I’m in the same boat...baggage compartment full of 2k vintage avionics and not hardly worth my time to list everything.
  5. I don’t mind owning Tesla stock but I will never buy a car with that emblem on the front. Just send all your old, obsolete, high end oil burners my way over the next 40 years. I’ll be terrorizing the land, sea, and air with my engine spinning as long as I can.
  6. Just drop it off at Maxwells while you’re at the beach?
  7. Used units are only bringing a few hundred on the used market. If you have time to find a good one (like a recent Bramble overhaul) for that amount I’d consider going that way. Otherwise if you’re just buying a random one off an auction it might be a frustrating path. The 256 can last 100’s or 1000’s of hours and is very economical to run right now with all the almost free units available. I would avoid spending the money to overhaul your unit.
  8. So I’m curious since it only lasted a day on the market...Was the price closer to the $15k mentioned earlier in this thread, double that, or triple?
  9. In 3k hours the 225 BK servos have all been overhauled once I recall. Normal cost range I’ve seen/experienced was in the 1500-2500 range. Labor rates are all over because some shops speed a lot of time diagnosing the problem. My guess is Garmin will have a flat rate charge of 750-1150 for any repair of the servo. The Garmin servos will probably take a little longer to swap but be easier to diagnose. There have been reports of multiple servo failures already in certified planes but apparently only the earlier units (before the long bodies were certified). Owners already past the warranty period were given exchange units for free but had to cover R/R labor charges. The shops charging 18-24k for a gfc500 install will IMO charge almost 2k for a servo repair down the road.
  10. If you are looking for resale in the next 5 years keep what you have now or upgrade to a big screen. Even the old G500 displays with a gad AP interface bring a substantial amount more on the used market. The Mortiz gauges will also be a value detractor and are a reliability nightmare. I’d suggest a 10 inch g3x w/EIS and a backup 275 w/AP adapter (almost positive the 275 provides encoding altimeter output). The 225 does not play well with the txi because it has an integrated altitude pre select. Might as well save the money and go with the g3x. The difference in cost is not as much as you think and I’d guess you’d receive 2-3x’s the delta when you sell.
  11. Which is crazy...just to have BK look at the computer, not even fix it, is $3k. People with a 2000-2004 setup who didn’t buy this are going to be wishing they had. Literally pennies on the dollar.
  12. Everyone always complains about the cost of BK servos. My guess is after the Garmin shop premium you’re looking at a $2k all in repair if the servo goes down. So it’s one more item to maintain down the road if the owner is not convinced it will dramatically improve the ride...
  13. This is exactly what I want to build on a 3k foot paved airpark.
  14. It would be interesting to see an overlay of the 275 on the pro1000. I really like the info/selectable fields in the all the corners and middle of the aspen. I find a single aspen screen small but the 275 looks like it gives up a lot of screen area...at least on my iPhone.
  15. Good lord, I think everyone knows where you two have been surfing when not on MS.
  16. I was under the impression that the Sandia 340 and L3 esi500 are approved to be backups for the aspen panels. @J0nathan225 I would inquire about your ki300, being the same as the Sandia, to be used as the sole backup for AI, ASI, and altimeter. The KI300/Sandia I believe have the ASI and altimeter marked primary in contrast to the G5 that clearly describes them as secondary.
  17. The 130 altimeter needs to be adjusted to the current barometric setting for the preselect to work properly.
  18. @gsxrpilot I thought you upgraded to the dual max setup? Old picture?
  19. Might as well make it $5k so people don’t lowball the widow... :|
  20. Something’s not right with those numbers...base weight seems high and max weight is in the a36 range. I would WAG the gross is limited to 3200 ish.
  21. A new left panel would be a small worthwhile investment if you are upgrading to a g5 or 275. I’d keep at least one nav head in the panel. If the 355 looks good to you keep your other nav/com.
  22. I’d find a used 650 and buy two G5’s. If you look hard and find a reasonably priced installer / IA you could have all of it installed in a new left panel for around $18k.
  23. Any pictures? I’m not having as good of luck with heat shielding as Mitch did.
