I have had the Insight G2 and the JPI, any my thoughts are: 1) if you want to replace your primary gauges: EDM 900 or better 2) if you want just an add-on: Insight G2

I am facing the same thing with my new unit. It will not charge thru the GPU port even though I have this adapter. This adapter works great for the GPU function but need to put a port somewhere for the charge/float/desulf functions. (single 24v battery)

Okay, so got the Bussman fuses in - they are 5A but them went up-under & behind my panel today to find where they were but could not find them. Ended up pulling this "Lighting Control" (pictured) out of the panel which houses the two rheostats. The rheostat on the left is my glareshield lights and the one on the right is my instrument panel lights - not working. I have two circuit breaks for these two, each at 7½ AMP CB. Pulling them and resetting did not trigger the panel lights at all - hoping maybe it was stuck. Maybe the newer (1998) doesn't have the in-line fuses? Strange that the fuses would be at 5A and the CB at 7.5A. If I new how to test the rheostats - that might be next, checking that now. I guess I could check the CB, too. Unless someone has some other ideas, I might give a MSC a call next week. 1998 M20K Encore (25-2026)

Yes, I would have gotten that one but for the sale they had going - I could not pass up the discount. This gives me a GPU as well but unsure where to mound my battery adapter plug.

I don't mess with Bluetooth (at all) in this process. It is stored/saved and connects when it can - I just ignore Bluetooth during the update process or don't make it a point to disconnect or connect. Since I have been ensuring that GarminPilot is closed before connecting - that seems to have worked for me: The first time GP loads on my decide is always seems to see and initiate the Concierge updates. It is so much nicer than dealing with the cards each month.

Here is what I have found that works the best for me: 1) have the GTN updates downloaded on your mobile device. 2) exit Garmin Pilot, not just close the app to the home screen but Exit the app. Restart the device if unsure how and do not open [Garmin Pilot]. 3) power up your aircraft (GTN) but do not touch anything... let the GTN power up but don't touch any buttons. 4) you will get to the screen that shows wifi connection ready at the top and database status on the middle/bottom - do not touch anything on the GTN. 5) power up your mobile device and go to the wifi connection setting page and ensure you are connected tot he GTN 750 Wifi. WiFi connection info available off a button in the bottom left of the screen. 6) Once you are connected to the 750 WiFi, open Garmin Pilot - this should be the first time it is opening and should not be "resuming" ... then databases should be prompted on the GTN to start transferring. Couple of notes I have found. --If you touch any screen on the GTN 750 (besides WiFi Info) the 750 will never trigger the updates --the Garmin Pilot seems to look to push the updates upon starting assuming when starting it is connected to the GTN WiFi --Bluetooth connection is not used to transfer databases, only to get GPS/AHRS/ADS-B data. --I renamed my FS510 WiFi connection in the GTN settings menu. I named it like "GTN750 N943RW" because I have multiple BT devices and different planes I connect to and it makes it easy to see what I am connected to.

O2D2 with Long Body Factory (overhead) O2
Bryan replied to exM20K's topic in Modern Mooney Discussion
I saw a buddy’s Acclaim with the overhead ports and he had the pressure reducers right near the Scott plug with maybe 2” of hose and then down to the floor where the O2D2 (maybe velcroed) then hoses back up to the cannulas. -
Sorry to bring up an old thread but did a (short) flight last night without instrument lights. I had glareshield lights but the other knob did nothing for my instrumentation. In reading, searching, and sifting thru the service manual, it appears the easiest thing for me to try is to change out the Bussmann Barrel fuse located (under the panel near the rheostat knobs?) I have a (new to me) '98 M20K Encore. Based on this thread, I ordered a couple of [GMW-5 - Fuse, PCB Leaded, 5 A, 125 VAC, GMW Series, Fast Acting] fuses from newark. My question is, is there a visual indication when these fuses are blown? Obviously, I could breakout the volt/amp meter but curious if you can see something visually. I will start with the fuse, and then maybe the CB, and then the rheostat.

@LANCECASPER, thanks, I went with the big-daddy model: But it was on-sale last week for $489 and with my discount (too - 5%) it was $465 before shipping. This one can do either the Gill or the Concorde - not that I would want the Gill.

I just purchased a 252 Encore with a new battery installed in 2016. Spruce had the Battery minder on sale and it delivers tomorrow to my house. One of the things I like about it is being able to power the plane with the BM product. Pirep incoming. I think I paid just over $500 with the sale. I hear that a new 24v battery is not inexpensive for a good quality one.

I had an ‘82, 231 with the folding seats. Huge advantages.

Question: for the standard two tank design (75 total) in a M20K are there 4 CEIS senders? Two per tank? I had Monroy Long Range tanks in my last 231 with only the factory mechanical senders to analog gauges but had a fuel totalizer.

I hope you are secretly getting them certified for a 252’s.

What upgrades are you looking for?
Bryan replied to Baker Avionics's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
Engine Monitors: JPI, Insight, Ei -
Yes, that was not an issue for my lender assuming the upgrades you do are worth the overall value against what you are borrowing against (finalized airframe and equipment). I used a down-payment for the avionics purchase to ensure the seller I was serious. He basically sold me the plane (airframe) + (cost of upgrades) and we were both happy. I think my lender required a current picture of the panel (old avionics) and then a new one after but it was nothing and would do again in the future.
-
Jimmy has a great avionics installer right across the way. If you find a buyer that wants GTX this and GTN that add that into the price to make the sale. But, make the buyer pay for the avionics up-front. This is what I did a year ago in buying my 231, from Jimmy.

Favorable experience with Bose repair
Bryan replied to RobertE's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
It was unclear, I wondered that after I got off the phone. I was happy for the replacement. The email states: "A20,BT,EL,GA,FLEX PWR" Maybe it is just the down cord because I think that would work, too, but we'll see. -
Favorable experience with Bose repair
Bryan replied to RobertE's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
UPDATE: I just called Bose about my A20 headsets with the twin GA plugs. I have come to realize they have a short in the cable after testing a new pair from my partner. I thought the airplane jack had the short but turns out (deductive logic) that it appears to be in my Bose plug. I called Bose this morning with my issue. Without questioning, they are sending me a replacement to be delivered in three business days. When I receive the replacement, they sent me a label to return the old ones - all free of charge. Nice! Thanks Bose for outstanding customer support. -

Bryan replied to RobertE's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I think I might have an issue with my A20s inside one of the GA plug posts. I was just thinking about sending off to Bose for repair - thanks for the PIREP. -
GPS position jumping with GTX345+GTN650 and Foreflight+iPad
Bryan replied to Markmp's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I agree. Here is a thread on Beechtalk with where @TrekLawler is talking about a software issue/update they are working on. I had a GTN750 + GTX345 + FS510 all using ForeFlight. I think the issue lies with the GTX software which appears to be in-progress.- 40 replies

94 Mooney M20M: TKS, GTN750. This Week Only
Bryan replied to WorldWiseTrade's topic in Aircraft Classifieds
Is AAA just brokering it for you or are they selling it themselves? I might be interested in moving up from a 231. -
Yes, that one does not look correct... at all. I hardly ever run at 75% at any altitude and never tested that one; the 65% numbers are almost perfect. My guess is that is a mis-print based on the other altitudes for that setting. I suspect that number should be more like 163 - 165kts TAS @ 6000. I run mostly at 55-65% above 10,000. For me the high-teens are the best. I don't have enough experience yet in the Flight Levels and am super cautious up that high single-pilot without going thru an altitude chamber to understand my own physiology. I regularly fly from 15000 - FL190.
