My comment was directed at “what am I going to learn different by getting training in a 210/230 HP Mooney vs. a 200hp Mooney” My response was the turbo... because all of them are 200+ but as @kortopates points out, it’s really heat management. I agree. Even the NA birds are is more need of Heat Management. You are right, according to the regs, the endorsement doesn’t specify what type is required.

Turbo management.

I am in - 30 min flight for me. AR weather = if you don't like it, wait 24 hours. We can have all seasons in the same week. KCXW

Lasar has them in-stock, or did. I had mine break complely off in-flight and ordered a replacement overnight and had it the next day. Mine was for a M20K but looked idential. I got my parter number from the Mooney IPC.

My Dream Gadget Just released - Garmin G500 TXi
Bryan replied to JohnB's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
It’s the same thing that I do. Why is your go-to decent rate? Is is different if you are in the FLs than let’s say at 12,000? -
I, too, have the Yaesu FTA-550 but don't use the nav. The nav feature on my phone & ipad (ForeFlight) works much better. I have had the backup radio for a couple of years but got real use out of it late this summer. I had a belt-driven alternator fail at OSH this year and on my way to DMax's to get it fixed my clutch gear failed on my engine-drive one, too. I realized just after takeoff and powered everything down (pulled the battery breaker) and continued the flight into severe VFR weather. I plugged my headset into the Yaesu (via the headset connectors) and was able to monitor local traffic. Upon arriving at GGG (longview), just before entering the TRSA, I powered everything back up in the plane and got my clearance to land at their Tower'd field. I am glad to have it as a backup but don't want to use it much longer than I have to. -Bryan

Garmin Software Upgrade: GTN, TXi, GFC (v6.50)
Bryan replied to Bryan's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
That is correct. The Software updates are only distributed by authorized dealers. -
Last year (350hr) I was getting my instrument and working on my CPL. .I also fly for PilotsNPaws and AngelFlight. I work from home but my employer is 971nm away. A couple/three times a year I get to fly-in for work. I am always looking for an excuse to fly. Central Arkansas weather changes from day to day so if you don’t like the weather today, wait til tomorrow. Looking to get my twin fan add-on next as soon as I can figure out the extra engine on a Mooney

The Encore (1998) has a three position switch. It was a fun approach to landing the Encore the first time after flying a 14v 231 for about 350 hours that same year. I was use to the infinite switch in the previous M20K but this indented switch was “different” when landing the 252 the first time. It’s completely natural now and never have to look at the position flap indicator. Also, my trim thumb has been programmed to start working when the flaps come down.

Would you accept a clearance from her?
Bryan replied to ilovecornfields's topic in Miscellaneous Aviation Talk
I read that the second controller was on break. He was the one that came online at the end that said he would get everything sorted out. -
I have perforated leather in pretty good shape but chose the sheep skins for cool (and warmth). Unsure I am going to use the seat-belt covers. or at least not until I get the disco ball in. What color? Post pics. I need to call JD and schedule my Jan/Feb Annual.

I think this could be a great deal of it all checks out. I’d be curious to know how much it is flying but at least it is in the dry desert of not very much. It has older avionics but still good equipment. I am in AZ this week on business and I might like to check it out myself, Encore to Encore.

I would think a new weight and balance would be required after major paint.

In FlightAware, you can click on the View Track and it will show you the reporting position report and who/what did the reporting.

They are still selling the Mini iPad 4 which makes me think they will come out with one in the future but today wasn’t the day. Hope it does not turn into a Ki300 issue. I’ll ask David as well, he works mainly on the Jeppesen Charts integration but will know who to talk to.

iPad Mini4 vs bigger or wait for a the mini 5
Bryan replied to Seth's topic in Avionics/Panel Discussion
I do still think there is a Mini iPad on the horizon, maybe early next year; they still not released the Apple Charging mat announced late last year. I, too, was hoping for a mini that was able to use the pencil. I'd love to be able to use the pencil on my Mini 4 today but appears I will just keep it. I think the 11" is too big for my preference in the cockpit and for the price point starting at $799, my mini will do just fine for now. I do like they are moving away from the lightening port and coming up to speed with the rest of the market on USB-C. The fast charging capability is the future since our battery density problem is sill not much better. The number 1 feature that every person would want is more battery life in any device. Fast-charging helps with that problem. Its nice to get 80% of your battery back in 20-30min. -
Does anyone have experience or PIREPS with any of the newer watches that have the PulseOx built in? Here are the ones I am looking at: Garmin D2 Delta PX Aviator Pilot Garmin Fenix 5 *Apple Watch Series 4 *the Apple watches have the sensor but the functionality has not been released. Hoping they will enable it during the ECG release, soon I have owned a Garmin Fenix 3 for health activities for several years, and really like it. The battery last almost an entire week with about 5-6 moderate activities during the week and seems to do a good at tracking heart-rate. But, I am more interested in tracking my O2 sat levels while flying - constantly. The obvious choice is the new Delta PX Aviator watch but it is nearly 1.2 AMUs. I think I would jump on it if it were 2/3 to half that price but I can use my finger pulse ox for $3-400 difference. Does anyone have any of these?
