  1. I agree, I don’t think anyone is patrolling ADSB to catch rule breakers. Now, if there was a deviation because of your actions, they would figure out how to contact you. A similar question was asked at a FAAST “Lunch with ATC” in our local area. The question was asked, how close does ATC monitor the class C shelf airspace above a local airport because a STOL plane accidentally busted up into the Class c above on climbout without talking to the controllers but quickly rectified the situation, and then went immediately to file the NASA form. ATC said, they don’t try to catch people with ADSB trying to write citations but that if a diversion took place they would follow up for further training. Again, the FiSDO was at this meeting and stood up and said, “confessing” was the best - they would not do anything unless it became a safety issue.
  2. There appears to be a nice J for sale near me in North Little Rock, AR. It popped up on my FB group: AIRCRAFT FOR SALE or BUY. basics: 1982 M20J, mid-time engine, new paint, Centruy 21 autopilot, 530 waas, adsb in/out, JPI engine monitor, no damage history... listed for $115,000 I don’t know the seller or the airplane but it is a 7min flight from my field. PM me and I can give you the contact info I saved.
  3. I have electric brakes in my 252. I had a similar issue where one went up during preflight runup but would not go down. In order to complete the flight, it had to be manually retracted with the power off and then did not work after that - no sounds after stuck. I removed them and sent them off to precise flight - they have them now. They will request both for servicing them. They will inspect and quote you a fix list. Mine cost about $1400 for full service and replacement of a motor with all the clutches serviced and new springs and hardware installed. Mine are the “100 series” and are bottom loading. They are easily removed with about 10-12 screws on top and removal of access panel below. Two more screws and they drop right out with a quick-connector to disconnect plug. Like the suggestion above, we used a metal blank to cover the hole from the inside to continue flying. Mine should be shipped back later this week. They told me they would be out of the office the first part of this week and back on 02-Jan.
  4. The Liquid Retina iPads are not the only ones you can use the pencil on. The later model (full screen) iPads (no Pro) also support the pencil. I use my finger today on the Mini and look forward for the new minis to support the pencil. Even at $100. It beats buying a pro at nearly 1 AMU for a tablet.
  5. 2017 - Mooney owner! And IFR ticket 2018 - Commercial 2019 - Multi add-on, tailwheel, CFI written
  6. 290 TT in the past 12months 245 in the Mooney
  7. Alleged iPad mini 5 case leak shows off vertical camera cutout with room for flash, more https://9to5mac.com/2018/12/24/ipad-mini-5-leak/ Glad I waited on the Pro model. I just want Pencil support for the Mini sized iPad.
  8. Is the ILS an alternate precision approach because the system is ground monitored and can be verified? vs. LPV
  9. Can’t wait; looks amazing. I *almost* came out today.
  10. @gsxrpilot
  11. Nice Steve!! I have been waiting for you to get back to check it out. The pictures look awesome. Can’t wait to see it in-person!
  12. Agree with this statement, I am on my third Mooney in 24 months. Most people hear that and freak a little: it’s not because of bent metal. I started with an (NA) M20F, but without my IFR and pricing avionics, I decided it would be better to upgrade airframes to an GPS WAAS capable bird to get my IR. So, I bought a well oiled mid/high time 231 with a proper autopilot and avionics. Great bird. Got my IR in the 231 and flew the pants off of it. I think in 12 months I logged over 350hrs. Then, I found (for me) the holy grail. A true 252 Encore with 1150 of useful load with a low time engine: my forever bird. I jumped on it as there were only like 37 produced, and not looked back. My advise is to find the nicest, most expensive bird you can afford and don’t look back. I was lucky in that the transitions did not cost me a lot (loss) to move up because I bought the very best I could afford at the time and when I sold, they brought near what I paid.
  13. The EngineSaver I bought has a long enough straw insert and plug to go past the “whistle slot” and explicitly directs you on how to use concerning this.
  14. I might take you up on the offer. Maybe we can do some flight comparisons (LOP) and formation stuff the weekend before, when I drop her off.
  15. I just bought an “Engine Saver” from spruce but only been hooked up a couple of days. Besides the ease of use, I don’t have much to contribute yet. In the summer, I have been opening my oil cap to allow some of the humidity to escape but unsure how much it helped. Here in central AR, we are pretty humid so I am hoping this will help.
  16. My Mooney will be in annual but I bet I can find a plane to fly up.
  17. Man, that paint is awesome! Mine is going into annual shortly and told them if I needed any prop work, you were going to be my shop!
  18. Not a dumb question. "Special Aircrew & Aircraft Certifcation Required" My Mooney, nor myself, is an advanced level ILS (CATII, III) equipped.
  19. No doubt! Great pic @gsxrpilot.
  20. I have bought my last two Mooney airframes from AAA and used Fisher on his field. He is independent and a couple of the things that were found were pointed out to Jimmy and were corrected by the seller before the sale. I can vouch for him as an independent but JD (SWTA) will be doing my annual this year and Maxwell has worked on my plane these past 9 months thru some odds and ends.
  21. I'd rather have the cheaper tires vs. the tubes than the other way around. Michellen AirStops (only) for me, about $72/tube.
  22. I would easily pay that - even more if he was on my field. Currently, there is no A&P that does regular work based at my field.
  23. Would agree with @DonMuncy. I like doing to myself, also, to know my plane. Spend most of this past Saturday replacing all three tubes and tires.
  24. They are installing EMAS "Engineered Material Arresting System" at our airport. Looks like it worked today at Burbank.
  25. I would recommend as well. I am in Conway with a 252.
