  2. Looking for 1-4 partners on my plane. The plane is great for cross country flying. PM me for details. Depending on interest, I'd like to meet any interested pilots out at KHEG to view the plane. Minimum flight time, ratings and Mooney-specific experience preferred. Let's discuss!

90k/60k/45k/36k buy-in, depending on the number of partners. Total partnership value 180k (will have aircraft appraised as part of partnership formation. Also willing to sell the plane for same price.

  3. Buddy flew my plane (Mooney M20K Rocket) yesterday on an Angel Flight mission from east coast of FL to panhandle and back. He said these showed up after flying it.

Anybody have any experience with this? My A&P is out of town until Monday and I was just looking for more information about Mooneys and windshield cracks. Nothing really in previous threads that I've seen.

I suspect the crack on the lower windshield is from the new panel install last year, and after the install, another shop had to access behind the panel to fix some gremlins.

Thoughts on whether the cracks are repairable, or a new windshield is warranted? Is it flyable or an airworthiness issue?

    Thanks for your thoughts...

    Rocket specific.

I thought it was to fit the engine in there, but then I would have thought you or your mechanic would have seen a bulge on the side of the engine that matched with the cowling.  So now I'm curious why the bulge is on all Rockets.

No bulge on the copilot side, so I don't know- but I'm sure the "institutional knowledge" of the board denizens will come through for me! :)

  5. Hi all,

While buttoning up the plane after finishing the annual today, my mechanic commented on the "bump out" on the engine nacelle on the pilots side. Looks like maybe a generator once went in this spot or 2nd alternator? What do the M20K and/or Rocket folks think? Just a curiosity. I hadn't noticed until he brought it to my attention.

  6. Took off this morning for a short out and back from KHEG-KSSI (Jacksonville area to just north of Jekyll Island). On the way back, I noticed what appeared to be water dripping from my mag compass. It was the oil? (kerosene?) from the mag compass. One drip about every 3 minutes or so. Enough to bother/worry/annoy me  Anyway I let my maintenance shop know. Any thoughts from the gallery?

The compass was reading accurately, so on landing, I improvised with a sock and a walmart bag over the compass until the mechanic can take a look at it.

    TIA

  7. Another data point (take it for what it's worth):

I've only had a few flights recently and I climbed out using the autopilot. I set 500fpm climb and use 35/2500. Fuel flow is (if I recall correctly) about 28 GPH. Every flight is a learning experience. I'm finally getting to fly my plane more often.

Recent flight was HEG-ILM for about 2.0 enroute. I cruise about 65% power at 1500 TIT. 28/2300 or thereabouts, between 8k and 10k, resulting in about 18gph ff. I haven't worked my way up to using O2 and flying above 11k yet.

  8. Hi all,

The paint on my plane is older. Not ready to have it repainted yet. I have some minor chipping on the leading edge of the wings. It could possibly be an entry point for corrosion. Any thoughts or suggestions? I now park the plane on the ramp at KHEG in Jacksonville so it's more of a concern in the humid, salty air environment.

    TIA

Ideally $0. Contact the shop that did your panel work. They didnt do the job correctly and need to fix this. I would also ask them to check and make sure the rest of them are also correct.

I had it done in central Michigan. The shop quoted me six weeks for the panel install. Six MONTHS later, I finally got my airplane back. To be fair, there were "supply chain" issues as well as personnel issues throughout the time my plane was in the shop. I've since relocated to JAX area and it wouldn't be cost effective to fly the plane up there (and wait God-knows-how-long to get it) and back.
