  1. Long range tanks on a M20K might be able to do it. 104 Gal at FL230 and 9.5 GPH with that tailwind. Even have enough for 45 min reserve. Heck of a long time to be sitting in a Mooney though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I managed that one day too. FL210 197TAS in a 231 with 75% power. Made for a quick 650 NM night. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Big project. Looks pretty nice. What was your reason keeping the JPI vs adding EIS to the Garmin screen?
  4. Pretty snazzy! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Yes, we’ve scoped, done compressions. It’s dry inside. Compressions are good. Everything forward of the divider is clean. Through a process of elimination we’ve arrived at the Garlock seal at the vacuum pump. Also evidenced by a rotary spray pattern on the top cowling that gets distributed a bit by the intercooler flow. Hopefully this fixes it and the pump lasts a bit afterwards too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Merlyn was already on so I can't comment on its price, but the Turboplus Intercooler was about $5400 and then 12 hours of labor for install. As a followup, we've done a few washes, ground runs, and seal changes. Looks like the culprit is the vacuum pump garlock seal at this point.
  7. My oil consumption was a quart every 25 hours or so much like yourself. Performance gains as advertised from the Turboplus, very happy with it. Hopeful to get to the bottom of this today or tomorrow.
  8. 6.5-7 was its happy place. We’re resealing the oil filler cap and line today and then going to do a bunch of runs checking the seals at the starter, alternator, and what not. Could be a long day. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Yeah that would be on a good 3-4 hour leg. It’s about half that or less on any other flight. And on the rare occasion it doesn’t vent it’s usually at least made a mess of the left nose gear door. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I’m quite aware of the purpose of the breather tube. Compressions are all mid to high 70’s, its a 300hr engine. The only modification was the installation of the intercooler. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this similar situation. 1 qt of oil out the tube every flight is getting annoying. And yes the dipstick is correct. We added oil 2 qt at a time to 6 to verify that a wrong one didn’t get put on when it was overhauled 4 years ago. Again I’ll say that the only modification was to the induction system in the form of the intercooler install. We talked to Mooney about it initially and they had nothing. Said there’s a reason they all come with separators now. Their words not mine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Hey gang. Have an M20K 231 with the -GB, Merlyn wastegate and Turboplus Intercooler. I had the intercooler installed last year. Ever since that install my breather tube is making one heck of a mess. We’ve washed the engine down several times. Used that special flashlight to detect oil leaks. Seals are all good. Bought an Airwolf Separator to hopefully take care of this, although I’ve been told it may not actually help despite their claims. Found the install instructions on their website, seem to be much better then the generic book they sent us not mentioning actual instructions. Doesn’t look like they accounted for an intercooler STC. Anyone have pictures of this install or opinion on my breather tube pukefest in general? Mike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. depends on the throw of your throttle but 2/3 of the way in is a pretty good start. Put your index finger at that point and slowly increase until your finger tip is touching the stop. Your turbo should come in about that point. As you accelerate you will need to fine tune the last portion but that should be a pretty good starting point. Like mentioned above the merlyn will not give you overboost protection.
  13. I’d like one but with a partner Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Hah it sure does. I’ve got more then enough photos of the wife, kids, dogs all out cold Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Definitely more then doable. We were looking at going slightly further this spring heading down to the British Virgin Isles. Non stop in the K from Ft Lauderdale executive entirely possible. Don’t forget your life raft rental. The turbo gives you the option to get higher over weather (at least initially in the mornings. It goes up to the 40’s and beyond pretty quick if it’s gonna be an isolated TS kind of day but you get the visibility to plan ahead. Check those fuel prices if you are going to island hop. Some of them gouge handsomely! Missed the big trip this year. The club is thinking of an Iceland/Ireland trip. We are out in The Calgary AB area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I’ve been with them going on a 4th term now. No issues including my one claim for mice. Still the lowest rate going. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Easter Weekend so there is a good chance the Moose Jaw airspace will be cold. Not sure if they’ll be flying Friday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I guess it would depend on how often you will be up there. Is it worth it to always have the extra weight vs a portable tank when you need it? Space in the cabin for securing the bottle vs out of the way in the tail? Filling the portable is more convenient then bringing the plane to a facility. Just some things to think about. It’s a rubber jungle either way. Mike Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. if you have an engine tent and access to power you could put one of those 800W "buddy" heaters in the bottome of the cowl, let that run for 3-4 hours, should be nice and toasty in there for ya.
  21. Just that unfortunately it’s at a price the market will bear. 87 regular is still too high at $47/barrel. It was about this time last year that the refinery in Canada gave us this story about the fuel having conductivity issues messing with fuel senders. The “issue” was resolved and we haven’t seen a change since the Dec 27th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Ahh, I didn’t think so. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Is the GTN capable of less then 1.0 RNP? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I haven’t done them in the Mooney but I fly them in the 737 all the time. Your going to need some extra equipment and an ops spec/authorization approval to fly most of these. .1,.2,.3 RNP are commonly what you will see out there with more on the way as PBN (performance based navigation) becomes the way. LPV approaches have pretty similar minimums at most airports, just no RF legs. They are pretty neat to fly in the terrain rich environments. We still have a few tailor made approaches into CYXX and CYLW specific to the 737NG/MAX that we developed. Thing of beauty whatching that terrain display as it goes LNAV/VNAV path all way to mins. There are some RNP departures out there too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Have at er. Sometimes its necessary to ground run and leak check engines at other locations in an airport depending on its setup. You’ll see planes moving without the cowl on. Just stay out of the puddles and gravel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
