Hi all, in preparation for a ferry flight I would like to bring along a few important items on the airline flight- CO detector, and a handheld radio. Has anyone taken these items on a commercial flight, either carry-on or checked luggage? a quick search on TSA site shows that radios are ok in either checked or carry-on, but I don’t trust these results. thanks, Yariv

GFC700 autopilot disengaged and Roll warning appeared on the PFD

It was the roll servo. It was removed by PCA in Aurora Oregon and sent to Garmin for an overhaul. It came back 2 weeks later with 1 year warranty. It is working perfectly. Initially I was told that it would most likely be an exchange but then they told me that this part is not manufactured anymore, that it's too old and therefore an overhaul was the only way. Access to the roll servo was from inside the cockpit - they removed the panels from the central pedestal that is between the pilot and copilot. The total bill was ~$1800. Hope this is helpful to others in the future. -
Not a dull moment:-). This was earlier today on an IFR flight from Paine field (KPAE) to Weed (O46), California. I flew the rest of the flight by hand. This was good practice. I did not see any circuit breakers pop out. One thing I did to try troubleshooting it was to recycle the AP Power switch. That did not help as the the system went through its checks and ended up displaying the Roll in red on the upper left side of the PFD. There were two other messages on the PFD before it displayed the last warning (Roll) - AFCS, and PFT. Is this a servo problem or not enough info to determine? Thank you, Yariv

Thank you kortopates. The airplane flies regularly. On this specific flight, it was working fine on the outbound trip and 3 days later on the trip back it did not work. They cannot send a refresh signal if there is no data I’d to send it to. Sirius XM told me that it is most likely a weather receiver issue. XM music was ok. And now, a week later I flew it again and the first thing I checked after starting the engine was the XM info page and miraculously the data ID re-appeared. I was able to use XM weather on the flights since then.

who does the re-activation - is it Sirius XM? You are not referring to signal refresh, right?

Hi, I flew from Paine field (WA) to Tracy CA for the long weekend and used the XM weather quite a bit to avoid large buildups on the way there. However, on my trip back earlier today it did not work. When I went to the weather page there was a message displayed on the MFD - “Detecting Activation”. XM music was playing OK though. When I checked the settings in the Aux group I noticed the audio radio ID was there but the Data radio ID was now blank. I had to use FIS-B for weather on this return trip. Is this an indication that the Garmin GDL-69a has malfunctioned? Thank you, Yariv

401.34 I think the latest version is 401.36. I asked the mechanic to upgrade it during the last annual but he didn't think it was really needed and told me it would take a long time to do it.

The G1000 uses the GTX-345. My Foreflight is connected to Stratus 2.

I have recently frozen the SiriusXM account and on a recent flight I switched the weather source from SiriusXM to FIS-B (free). Passing by Beale AFB I did not see the TFR over that airport as I was expecting (it showed on my ForeFlight). Then I noticed the annunciation on the MFD top left of the screen, saying it was not available. Picture attached. is there a setting I am missing? thank you, Yariv

Hey Skip, I think we just met recently at the airport:-). I did exactly that - called Garmin and then Rachel. The plan now is to do another flight and try the GS once again on both NAV radios and take a video maybe. Would you like to be the safety pilot? -

Yes, APR pressed once cleared for the approach, before intercepting the localizer. -

Since I was at the intercept altitude 6 miles out, yes the interception is from below. -

The G1000 in my airplane is configured to switch automatically from GPS CDI to the VAV1 or NAV2 LOC CDI before reaching FAF. I remember verifying that it switched correctly to the correct frequency and CDI needle. The GS was armed (white) and stayed like that as I crossed the FAF. Localizer was working fine. -

The 2 approaches were in 2 different airports - kpae and kpwt, on different days. I was not aware of relevant NOTAMs. -
Hi, today I confirmed on a second flight that there is a problem with the GS capture. I flew the approach using the GFC 700 autopilot, I was at glide slope intercept altitude long before the FAF but the GS stayed white (armed). I disconnected the AP and noticed the GS appeared momentarily but disappeared again. I then flew the localizer instead. the second approach was a GPS approach and the GP (glide path) was captured successfully. Where should I look? thank you, Yariv

PCA told me that they need to interface it to the pitot static system. Another shop told me that it needs to be connected to the G1000. maybe I need to get a quote from another shop. A mechanic looked up the part number of the existing unit and told me that it is listed for $2883. That’s for a brand new one. He said the main time consuming part in replacing it would be to remove the glare shield. It has to be set with the correct tilt to have the parallax set right. That tilt value should be specified on the tag, he said. -

Hi, I noticed on my last flight that the standby attitude indicator precesses excessively and cannot be relied on. I understand that I could replace it with a GI-275 as its cost is very close to a an electric AI gyro. Called PCA and got a quote for the GI-275: 20 hours labor (3 days) and $6050. the soonest they can schedule it is April 2023. The airplane is a 2004 Ovation 2GX. Did any of you have to replace the standby AI? Any recommendations for other good shops (I am based in KPAE in WA)? Thank you, Yariv

I checked both GPS1 and GPS2 yesterday and both had about the same satellites captured. I am now more curious about the 2nd alert I got during the flight - Abort approach. The next time I fly (after Feb 1st) I will try to repro it by following the same track and loading the same approach. this time I will take a picture.
