  1. Hello everyone. I am thinking of trying the electric magneto arena. I keep reading of fuel savings in the area of 1 gph and a fairly decent performance increase. Has anyone switched to electric mags or give any advice on this? I fly a J model, 201.
  2. Thank you all for the responses. I do have an answer to this question and it does surprise me. It is normal for this particular pushrod to make contact with the frame as mine does. The contact is very minimal and will only happen while on the ground and if the yoke is manipulated backward/forward full travel. I was also advised that very shortly after my model year some changes were made to compensate for this contact, which still happens, to further minimize any adverse affects. And for the record I do not see any adverse affects as a result of the contact in my case and I feel fairly comfortable it's been going on since the aircraft was new. Basically if you have a situation similar to mine in a J model just examine for any wear, make sure it is greased and happy flying. As far as I'm concerned this case is closed.
  3. Thank you all for your responses and I sincerely apologize for not saying so earlier. I did not set response notification and did not know anyone had responded. It turned out the backup electric fuel pump was bad. I purchased a new/different brand and it has been running nicely since.
  4. Hello everyone. I have a Mooney M20J 201 and a few days ago prior to engine start I moved the yoke forward and backward for full range. While doing so I heard a rubbing/scraping noise that I eventually determined was coming from beneath the right side floorboard. After removing the panel beneath that area I discovered the source of the problem. As the yoke is moved forward and backward full range a pushrod beneath the right floor is making contact with a metal rod of the frame. The contact is not constant and only happens at a particular phase during the yoke movement. At that time the pushrod drops briefly, makes contact with the frame and rises again. I also noticed grease was packed on the frame rod at that particular spot as if this has been happening for some time. There doesn't seem to be any wear from the contact and I can't imagine this is normal. Has anyone seen or heard of this? It should also be noted that is the first time I have noticed that scraping noise and I have had this aircraft for 3 years. I will try to get photos and post them if needed.
  5. Check my listing. I just posted it today. Several pieces you may be interested in.
  6. I recently updated my Nav/Strobe Lights to LED's due to a strobe tube going out. After learning the cost of one strobe tube is $240.00 I made the change. As a result I have 2 strobe power packs, 2 nav light assemblies and one working strobe tube for sale. One of the power packs is a Hoskins and may very well be the original. It still works, but does have a slightly bulging capacitor. The other power pack is a Whelen A490TCF and is in new like condition. Both nav lights work and the housing is in good condition. If you are interested in any of these parts E-Mail me at Nessnc@gmail.com.
  7. Hello everyone. I'm relatively new to this site as I signed up about 8 months ago, but have not posted or actually used it yet. I am a new pilot as of January 2016 and purchased a M20J 201 in February. I have put in excess of 100 hours on her since then with no problems until last weekend. After activating the electric fuel pump I noticed the fuel pressure gauge did not come alive, but I could hear the pump grinding away. After a few more attempts with the same result I turned the engine over and the fuel pump gauge did come alive. At this point I and another pilot who was in the cockpit with me deducted the electric fuel pump must be bad. We have since learned the fuel pump is a Dukes, model 4140-00-19A and that it was overhauled by CJ Aviation, INC in September of 2012. Does it sound right that a fuel pump would go bad that soon after overhaul or could it be something else and the fuel pump really isn't bad? If it is bad how does a Dukes pump compare to a Weldon pump? I hope this post is in the proper place. If not I apologize in advance.
