  1. Please, I would love having a blueprint and summary details/facts.
  2. @Stephen Likewise! Enjoyed meeting and the opportunity to talk to another Mooney fanatic. I only wish the Dallas weather would have been better this weekend. Unfortunately, Mother Nature often has a mind of her own. I look forward to a trip up to your neck of the woods.....hopefully sometime later this Fall. Safe travels back home Monday!! Jeff
  3. @M20Doc Thank you. I had no idea it was related to repairing fatigue cracking, Great info, thanks again for sharing.
  4. I have searched for the referenced SB without success. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Jeff
  5. Interested in buying. How old is the unit? Any damage and everything works fine?
  6. @Bob R Yes, that would be fantastic if you would share that information. Thanks for reaching out and for offering!! Jeff
  7. @MyNameIsNobody which year 201 shafts do you have and did you change the bellcranks?
  8. Having the previous owner do it is absolutely the way to go, they do look good!
  9. Thanks @carusoam , I think the “more than it should...” goes with just about every upgrade/mod that I’ll consider! Thanks also to @Marauder for info and pic and @Andy95W regarding the dye-pen note, was not aware of that added benefit.
  10. I like the looks of the more moderns yokes and am curious about the logistics of a retrofit. Does anyone know whether the control wheel shafts on stock M20C, M20E and M20F will accept accept the more more yokes of the 201, Ovaitions, Acclaim’s (without changing out the shafts)?
  11. Excellent, thanks for the quick response. Ive been looking for some like this and had no idea it existed. I just scanned their site and it looks like a relatively small investment for some valuable “informed buyer” information!! Btw, I love this forum...I learn something new everyday.
  12. @LANCECASPER I’m not familiar with this price history resource. What product/service is it and is it subscription based?
  13. John, congratulations! I’ve seen the pictures of the before and after. The rebirth of your airplane from the ‘09 re-first flight is absolutely phenomenal and you clearly have a head turner. The transformation was no doubt a labor of love. Very well deserved!!
  14. Thanks for the inputs. @carusoam Fair point, at nearly 50yrs old, there are probably more important things to worry about. I appreciate the input and will search for the timeline. I had to to chuckle at the dishrag comment!! @bluehighwayflyer thanks, I didn’t think about comparison to the J’s so that’s a great point of reference. @takair I had a similar thought in that flight in actual IFR/IMC may actual benefit from heavier controls. @jetdriven thanks for the context. My Tiger is nearly not even finger tip pressure to move the ailerons, so that may take some getting use to.
  15. Several weeks ago, I was Googling M20 reports/evaluation etc and found a series of reviews ( C, E and F) and associated performance comparisons. Linked is the E model evaluation. http://www.mooneypilots.com/mapalog/m20e.html Towards the end of the report, I noted the excerpt below: “Another negative to mention on the E model we flew for this report are the poor handling qualities in roll, but this complaint is for airplanes built prior to 1965 only. Specifically, pre'65 Mooneys all had ailerons that were "curved" on the bottom surface. These curved ailerons resulted in very high roll forces. The test pilot term for this is "high breakout forces". Roll rates with these curved ailerons are good---once the ailerons are displaced, the airplane rolls crisply and quickly. However, the forces required on the control wheel to get these roll rates are extremely high.” There’s a lot of really good info in this series of evaluations, for some one like me researching their buying options, but I keep reminding myself of this noted issue. I’m curious from those of you that have significant time in and/or owned both pre and post 1965 M20’s how significant the “poor handling qualities” referenced above really are. Jeff
  16. Thanks for all the responses. You’ve essentially confirmed my suspicion that as long as it works, they’re very good but if they break it’s quite likely a replacement will be required. I keep watching how/when the TruTrak STC (or HDX and GFC) are progressing. Hopefully there will soon be affordable options. Thanks again for all the inputs.
  17. The recent Brittain thread reminded me of a question/concern I’ve been pondering. Given the unfortunate loss of Jerry and the current closure of Brittain, what is the prevailing thoughts on the serviceability and parts replaceabilty of their PCs, AP’s etc. What I’m specifically contemplating is that while I’m in the buying mode, would I be better off biasing a decision toward an aircraft with STEC or Century Vs a Brittain AP? (All other things being roughly comparable) Or are repairs to Brittain wing levelers and APs readily available through other service resources and I should worry? Said differently, should I be concerned that loss of Brittain AP functionality liklely forces finding a non-Brittain replacement? Seeking your sage guidance. Jeff
  18. Very nice, I had no idea we had a local NTSB consultant/guru in the metroplex. Great idea and thanks for the suggestion. Jeff
  19. @jaylw314 Thank you, that was a clear and helpful answer and one that makes perfect sense. @Marauder Love the dual Aspen’s, those TAS and GS numbers are very impressive! Between you and @Bob_Belville I think I’m experiencing panel envy.
  20. Okay, thanks for the info, you guys are confirming are reminding me of the line from Kung Fu, many years ago “grasshopper, you have much to learn” and I of course am grasshopper So, thanks for your patience, I now understand the context of a single dmag. I think I’ve pieced together that the “D” engine was introduced with the 201 and the +5D on timing was a means to eek out a couple of extra ponies. Assuming I have that right(and if I don’t please correct me), I’m not following the downside of the “D”. I am assuming that it brings the added benefit of an O/H sooner than a non-D. Am I in the general ballpark?
  21. @Shadrach humor aside, you’ve now opened a whole new can of worms!! Be mindful I am a card carrying Mooney wannabe/newbie. What is the issue/concern/challenges associated with the A3B6D engine and mag combination?
  22. @KLRDMD and @Bob_Belville thanks for the insurance contact info, much appreciated!
  23. Not to hijack this thread, and on a related topic, what is the prevailing opinion regarding the best insurance providers for Mooney owners? I see Falcon advertise in MAPA but have no real intel on their reputation and/or whether there is one or two Mooney “go-to” insurers. With the many decades of experience on this board, I suspect there are some common themes. As a soon to be Mooney newbie, who should I be looking at?
  24. @MBDiagMan Thanks for the very generous offer and if we can make it work, I’ll sure take you up on it! Now, having two Mooney....is that even allowed? The burden you have to bear! Seriously, congratulation on your F. I recall it having a modern GPS and a JPI as primary. What are you swapping out of the C? Btw, that’s a nice looking C model.
  25. Welcome. I lived in Colleyville for several years (west of Keller a few miles)and hangered out of Grand Prarie (it was about a 25 min drive). Towered and seldom so busy that you’re more than 1 deep waiting for takeoff. Only down side is really close to DFW so about a mile north is a 2000 MSL Bravo shelf TPA 800AGL. Price wise, you’d be hard pressed to find cheaper hanger costs. (Full enclosed T @$215 gated access). About 18 months ago, moved between Roanoke and Denton. (52F and KDTO). Both locations you’re gonna pay around $350/mo for a single T. enclosed. Denton is towered and has a nice long/wide runway. There are a mix of city owned and privately owned hangers and all are controlled gated access. There is a lot of training out of Denton as it is home to US Aviation. I hear folks complain that it’s a zoo but personally have not experienced any real issue. Denton also has a good FBO (recently taken over by US Aviation) as well as a nice public facility for wi-fi, rest rooms, place sit/rest and watch TV etc. Both FBO and public are adjacent to the tower and have a common parking lot. Roanoke, 52F is non-towered, much shorter and narrower than KDTO but plenty big enough for GA aircraft. They have self serve gas and they’ve recently completed a runway refurb project which significantly improved the surface. Lots of open t-hangers and a considerable number of enclosed hangers (all privately owned). Also they are a number of large community hangers ( hold 3 or 4 airplanes) I have no idea on the cost of the open T’s, but several of them are empty. All hangers are public access, meaning anyone can drive right up to them. Truthfully, finding an available hanger will likely be your biggest challenge. It took me a few months to find one. I was searching Hicks, 52F and Denton and finally got a call back from a man that owns about 20 enclosed T hangers at Denton. My advice would be to start your search as soon as you can. A friend of mine owns hangers at 52F. I don’t think he has anything open but he likely knows others there and I can get you my guys name at Denton. Again, I’m not aware that he has anything open but that’s I finally found one. At Denton, you can also rent through the city of Denton( on site at the airport building mentioned above) or Nebrig and Assoc and US Aviation. Again, welcome to DFW and I hope this is somewhat helpful. Jeff
