  1. I commented on the NPRM to change the metric to Ls0 vs Ls1, as they stated they are using the " V s1 limitation that will indirectly limit the weight to around 3,000 pounds." I also provided a printout of my POH stall speeds showing that at 2740lbs, 53KCAS is achievable at Ls0. I mentioned that LSAs are also leveraging flaps to achieve lower landing speeds, so Ls0 makes more sense to use as the metric than Ls1. I stated the obvious that aircraft that have no flaps, Ls1 and Ls0 are equal.  Fingers crossed.

I have an iPad Pro 11" sitting on a magnetic yoke mount in picture format. It fits just right and I can pull it off and stick it back on with ease. I can substitute it with my phone, android tablet--backup--or anything that has a metal backplate. Here is a link to the magnet mount:: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K1QPQSZ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A3PEORXDHEWCJ1&psc=1

Chris @Fly_M20R looks like he has an iPad 12.9 mounted to his yoke with RAM mounts, which is something I may consider in the future.

so thats the listing for the bravo we were looking at. there was another bravo that was listed just before Christmas but sold the day after we found the listing (seller was asking $230k).

    The listing also shows this:

    • GTX 330 Integrated Mode S Transponder / TIS Traffic

    Garmin 345 ADS-B In & Out

I don't think it needs two transponders... but traffic awareness capability is great imho.

    good luck in your search!

Another good option is to just clean the sheet metal just forward of that tie-down and then use a sticky mount.

I'm not intending to steal this thread but I've thought about this numerous times.

Or use the gopro mount in @gsxrpilotPaul's post on this clamp https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XWTL7LC/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A31OEVIVG7GW82&psc=1 . Might be more secure than a sticky mount due to the curvature of the airframe that far back.

  5. Thanks @Oscar Avalle

So you have put the camera on top on the horizontal stabilizer?

Not all the way at the top but similar to Paul's @gsxrpilot location, just higher and closer to the leading edge. At 6'5" I can reach all the way to the top.

It's better to mount the camera with the standard GoPro sticky mount. They are sometimes called Helmet mounts. They come in two shapes. One is flat and the other has a very slight curve to it. Chose the one that fits the surface best. They are easy to remove with a piece of string, fishing line, dental floss, etc. or anything you can use to cut through the sticky pad without touching the paint. Once attached, they will not come off until you take it off.

You'll be able to use the wifi during flight and can start/stop video as well as shoot stills.

Though not made anymore, the GoPro Hero4 or 5 Session is the one I like for mounting on the tail. It's super small and light.

Also do you have any videos of the a flight with the DJI osmo?

At the 10 minute mark, here is a video that includes osmo/cellphone capture:  I'll have to take a picture of the osmo's clamp location the next time I go for a flight. The clamp itself is attached to the bottom of the osmo via a standard camera mounting screw.

  6. My favorite camera... Hero session 5 at the top of the vertical stabilizer with a sticky mount... check my last flight in the year 2020 and profile pics for how amazing this camera is!!! I also have an underwing mount that screws into either hoist points / tie down ring for any action cam for fairly cheap with RAM mounts. Had to modify the RAM mount with a screw but it is a very advantageous mount point.

For inside the cockpit, here is my setup...

    20210102_212759.thumb.jpg.95bd4160cac660ab10a761e37f2bdd72.jpg

A Samsung S105G--or other cellphone--mounted to a DJI osmo mount clamped to the passenger seat headrest captures the cockpit very well with ultra stabilized video.

I have not experienced any adverse flight effects at high--200+mph--or low speed for any exterior cameras. Of course YMMV.... Happy filming!

  7. Closing out 2020 with some shots of my flight yesterday. They include proof that it does snow in SOCAL and its hard to beat the sunsets here... Enjoy!

I can never get that type of clarity in my pictures.  What camera and software are you using?

    Clarence

Doc @Clarence It's a dental endoscope. Link on amazon is below. Software is default Windows 10 camera application. All my A&P IA buddies love it and mine is on loan most of the year.

  9. When I need to remove or put on the bottom cowl by myself, I use an outdoor chair with a carpet runner draped over the arms. I loosen all the camlocks but the top two and then I slide the chair up under the nose to support the cowl. Since the chair doesn't have wheels and is a bit heavy, the chair easily holds the cowl in place. I then carefully remove the top camlocks while supporting the cowl with one hand. I then shift to the front of the plane and slide the chair directly away from the plane with one hand while holding the cowl in place with the other. This allows me to let the cowl slide down the chair/carpet to clear the prop. Once it's out far enough, I lift the cowl off the chair and store it vertically. I use the same procedure in reverse to put the cowl on.

  10. Happy Thanksgiving! I'm thankful to have MooneySpace as a resource for sharing all things Mooney. I've got the pies in the oven and have turned over the kitchen to my wife who's going to cook up the Turkey and fixings. Eagerly waiting the glutton that awaits. I'm flying on Saturday to put the J in the shop for it's annual.

I’m generally a big fan of the stuff, but the big downside is you can not use touch up paint without sanding it off.

Thanks @Rmag for your experience. The problem I have with special coatings like Ceramic Pro, is that you can't order it, as a normal car, boat, or aircraft owner, unless you go through some kind of special training.

I'm just looking to protect my J's paint / exterior as much as possible without having to spend 2 to 3 AMU's for training and paint correction on 35 year old paint that's still in somewhat good condition.

I've received several complements on its condition, so I'm thankful for its previous owners in that regard. In preparation for ceramic coating--or sealing--my J at annual next month, I practiced on my other vehicles.

I washed, clay barred, and applied C2v3 to my 2011 335i convertible this summer in preparation for a graduation drive-through ceremony--THANKS COVID! Cleaning included the wheels, and all I can say is wow! Minor scratches disappeared. It rained while we were taking after-graduation pictures. The beads were huge and the extended family commented on how the car looked. The car just rinses off, including the wheels, today. For the wheels, that's huge given the soft compound brakes BMW's use.

I washed, clay barred, and applied C2v3 to my 2003 F-150 roof after noticing some rust. Time will tell with this one... but I also washed the windshield and OMG, it is super clean as compared to the rest of the truck, while sitting outdoors in a desert--F70. The rest of the truck awaits...

For the J, I did clay bar and seal the top of my J's cowling after witnessing the aforementioned results. I found the 35 year old paint does require some polishing, as the top of my cowling took a lot of work and is only shiny in one spot. At least it is sealed now with something that lasts better than normal wax...

Bottom line here is that I desire the most protective coating available. Too bad some product owners think that some consumers are not smart enough to read directions and apply.

  12. How about infinitely adjustable and measurable cowl flaps on the J. Sure I can trail the cowl flaps but tracking engine performance with a monitor is significantly tougher with cowl flaps that are open, closed, or in trail--which is a completely random setting. I get lots of numbers on my engine monitor. It would be nice to have an infinitely adjustable cowl flap setting that's measurable, that lets me further fly by the numbers. They exist on more modern Mooney's...

  13. Boss asked us to share what we do for fun via pics.... something about mental health in a pandemic. I'm an INTP, so a closet works for me... but I'm good on the radio.

Had a flight of 3 H60's and a flight of two AH-1W/AH-1Z's on the way from KSEE to F70 today. Too bad the phone camera couldn't capture them in enough detail to share.
