  1. For Carb planes number one culprit i see is weak coils in magnetos and or timing has wandered. You can try running your plane to normal temp and bring rpm back to idle and if by going to one mag on switch it tries to die then its a good sign of weak coil.. There could be carb issue do a rich lean check by slowly retarding mixture when idling and you should see an rpm increase up to 100 rpm befor rpm declines then engine shuts down. If you dont get the increase then you can turn in idle mixture thumb screw 1/2 turn at a time and retry till it is right. Make sure your mixture cable and throttle cables move to both stops on carb as well. also theres a filter at the carb make sure its not dirty. Injected planes do same rich lean check and adjust linkage and inspect las chance filter in servo and mags.
  2. My horn just quit working in overhead. anyone know for sure where ground goes to. I was just working under pilot side inst access replacing PC gyro and removed the PC turn coordinater power supply. maybe i missed or disturbed the ground. Figures been working off all my sqwaks and just as i finish something else comes up. I have in last two months OH complete INJ system servo spider ,all new landing gear biscuits to include new NLg truss stc rewired my dash backlighting which was inop. fixed PC vacume leaks and OH the pc gyro, and replaced CHT probe .By the way Brittain is awsome to work with and fast. My turn coordinater gyro was original 1969 never overhauled and gimble was still good. 450 ish to re build. works like a champ now
  3. I have similar problem. my gear warning lights work fine and gear comes up and down perfect but my gear warning audible alert just quit working. I have the two small ones in my overhead and they were quite loud. One on copilot side is for stall which still works. Figures this developed on test flight after completely reworking my PC system and reinstallig new PC Gyro/turn coordinater . I just finished an extensive annual and now this. The switch is actuating in my throttle quadrant but i havent put a meter on it. The overhead instalation requires removing a large section of overhead . Didnt get that far yet was tired and didnt want to crack old panels in a discrental haste. It was annoying when it worked listening to it till i could get her slowed down to gear speed but now ill go crazy digging till i find problem. Figure best check would be to jack plane again and retract gear and pull throttle back to idle and check for voltage at horn terminal. if any one else has a better i dea im always open for quicker resolution. Side note i found another of the horns same day in baggage compartment when i was cleaning everything out. Hmm
  4. Aircraft spruce for non specific supplies. I order all my mooney specific parts from LASAR in Cali . Prices are ok a little higher on some things but they make up for it in customer service and all around help and knowledge . Most times they know what your looking for and part number /availability before you finish the conversation. Not to mention you can get all the mooney specific tools from them.
  5. I read all these posts about annuals taking weeks and dont get it. The only reason an inspection should take more than 3 to 4 days is if parts are slowing the process. I do my own inspections and for a thorugh run though takes me two full days. I also constantly work on my plane though so there arent any surprises. This year has almost been a progressive. Started with getting all my injection components OH and then moved to going through the gear donuts and bushings. If you use a local IA on your field you get better servicce and a quicker turn but you must make sure they have the ability to run through the gear. Lots tend to merely swing gear and emergency op and call it good. Do not let your landing gear get neglected as many do.
  6. Went ahead today without tool. My nose was already done ordered the new STC truss from LASAR with new biscuits installed already, saved me some grief. The mains i did today. While plane was still off jacks i removed covers and bolt and collars. Then i jacked aircraft and pulled lower bolt out of assembly and the whole thing comes right out. For install i did the reverse. I installed the new ones and fed it in upper hole. Then attached lower bolt to tire assembly and lowered off jacks so weight of plane compressed biscuits. I didnt have much fuel onboard so i used an 80 pund sand bag to compress it the last little bit to get holes in collar to line up. Took two hours. While i was their gave everything a good look and greased it. After all together re jacked plane and swung gear a few times. Tail is much higher and rides great. The pucks that were installed had no cure date stamped on them . They were made by RAPCO ? New ones are LORD. I work with LORD mounts on C-130 aircraft so i know they make a good product. http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36673-/ http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/36672-photo-2gear/

  9. Looking for tool to do my main gear . Hangar tool box guy said he wasnt going to be in buisness for a month or so which seemed odd. Lasar has them all checked out. I have pucks and time to do them but no tool. Anybody in Florida have tool they would loan or sell. Give you a deal on your next annual!
  10. Getting ready to replace my main gear pucks. Got the Discs just waiting on a tool. Anyone done these without the tool? LASAR has tool but im waiting for someone to return it so they can ship to me. Im in Central FL if anyone has tool they would rent sell or let me borrow i could fly and meet you . Replaced nose already in conjunction with STC truss with stops. Im hangared in Brooksville FL. Im licensed to do my own work.
