David and I met up this week and knocked out the details. Put a deposit on her today!
The great news is David now has the time (and incentive ;o) to get the cowling to a state where I'll be able to fly it home (sometime in late August or early September). For those who are waiting for the cowling, this will help you folks as well.
Very excited and David has been awesome to work with. As the plane is put back together and flying again, I'll update folks with its progress. We have a few items to knock out and she'll also have a Surefly mag to replace the left one. Can't wait!
Once I get some time flying her, I'll be looking @ adding a Garmin GNC 355 GPS/COM with CDI. Because I'll be waiting on the Garmin, it will put a damper on my IFR training in 52W a bit. I'll probably add the Garmin early next year. This will give me more time to save some money, study, and get better -- maybe do some simulator training to keep my IFR training going.
Sorry to those who are waiting on the new cowling, but I'm now first in line ;o)

You are getting a great "C"! Very fast and it has been well cared for. Enjoy!

Nice.... Lol!This summer I met Bryan from Just Plane Silly and we were talking about his irreverent approach to aviation videos. He asked it he could shoot some video and pictures of my plane for a video idea he was hatching. Well here it is, the Just Plane Silly vision of what 1970's TV ads could have been for GA aircraft. Just enjoy the video and don't take the snarky comments seriously.

That video was pretty hard to watch. If you remember back when the model was flying, it had a bad dutch roll tendency at slow speeds. Peter attempted to solve this with vortilons and stretching the fuselage. From what I saw in the video, the airspeed never reached above about 125, so to me, the airplane is acting very much like the model.
As I was watching this, I could not help but think I was watching a canard stall. The fact that the airplane is considerably heavier than projected design weight and the slow speed that he flew it at, lead me to believe this. Last week I got to fly my first canard and did several stalls. That's exactly what it looked like to me. On his YouTube channel, there are many comments about the size and shape of the canard and how sensitive that actually is. Personally, I think the problem is in the canard design. More than likely, it's too big.
I have been following this project from the beginning and I'm number 540 on the list. I'm an entrepreneur, dreamer and tinkerer by nature, so this project is right up my alley, but I'm 50 years old and I have no doubt that I will never see this aircraft on my ramp as i think he's going to have some major redesign to make the aircraft stable.
It has been very cool to watch the progress from idea, to CAD, to producing parts, to Flying aircraft. That in and of itself is something that very few can say they accomplished. So to that, I say congratulations Peter! I sincerely hope you can get this thing operating as you first dreamed it!

Meh... I didn't find any record of that bladder ever being replaced. I suspect it might be the age of the airplane, 64 years, but I find that hard to believe as well.Sorry to hear about your troubles, but there are so many people here that think if you have bladders your tank problems are over forever.
-
As a matter of fact, my right one is leaking presently. Near the top where it doesn't typically have fuel touching it. I am cringing at the thought of pulling that out and sending it to get it rebuilt.Just talk to some 310 owners and ask them if bladders ever leak?

Stick your foot on the floor, roll the wing down into the wind. When you can't keep the nose straight with the runway, you've exceeded the capability.

Excellent! Glad you found the smoking gun!

Ditto on the intake leak
I have an O470 that the front two cylinders would not participate when it was cold. Rough idle, but smooth run-up. You could watch the cylinders come to life in the run-up. Once warm, it would idle fine.
Found the leak under the number 5 riser and also at the boot where the balance tube connects.
Fixed that and idles great now!
When I had the Mooney, I had a devil of a time getting the intake tubes to seal against the cylinders. It took coating the gaskets with #3 Permatex Aviation sealer before I was able to finally get rid of the leaks.- 1

Have you done an in-flight mag check yet?

It's on top of the nose wheel well.I’m putting this here because a j model might be the same as my F
Does anyone know the location of the transistor panel in a 75F?
Similarly does anyone know if the 5a fuse off the circuit breaker panel (flaps/autopilot/gauges row) is collocated or remote?

Solonoid?

If I were a betting man, I would bet that switch is perfectly fine. It's just out of adjustment. Not sure if it is bad at the moment, just wanting to make sure I can still get the part. I called Lasar today and still waiting to hear back on which airspeed conversion to go with. Seems like an expensive option to go with.

In the event you do need to get a new one, Mouser electronics carries them. A few years ago they were about $200.

Are you sure it's bad? It looks like mine did, only moving about 1/16". Try adjusting it 1/8" closer to the pressure plate.Does anyone know where I can get a squat switch for this year.

The guy on the Hawker was a textbook job of how you should handle a gear up problem.IIRC mooney accounts for quite a lot of gear up/collapse incidents.
[/url] Some more gear up favs.... What is that sound?
Gear up? go around! (no dont do this!)
Be sure to pick the most inconvenient spot to stop for the airport!
The guy in the Aerostar, not so much.

I had the same problem. Cold weather only Here's the solution....Yes, it does have a squat switch. I was flying in cold weather yesterday when it happened (Southeast Missouri). It did occur later in the flight. No issues when leaving the airport from my heated hangar. I will check the date on the donuts. Would the maintenance manual show where the location of all of the switches you are talking about? Also it does not have a bypass switch installed, I like the sound of it along with the airspeed switch.
I also talked to Don Maxwell today and from what he was describing it sounds like the rubber doughnut issue you stated. Guess I should check those first before getting into the belly.
Any ideas on the best place to get a maintenance manual?
With 90% certainty, the gear pucks are the problem.
You can... Replace the pucks. $$$$
Or
You can adjust the squat switch in the left wheel well about 1/8" closer to the pressure plate.

This^^^Go get a beer and a lawn chair.
Walk up to a nice hill overlooking the lake. Look over the beautiful view and consider how great it is and don’t worry about it.

Perfect! See, always good advice on this forum! This thing will do a better job and also keep out all that unwanted light. Especially during landing.

That's quite the story! Here is an example of a human at 32,634 feet without O2. It's an interesting and quite shocking story. Very much like the story of our own Dan Bass. Ewa Wisnierska - Paraglider Pilot

I've flown hang gliders from that same launch point in Australia, although never around big cumulous like that!

A plugged injector will make the cylinder run lean. You would see an increase in egt but it would be steady.I am running ROP. Do you think injectors can cause these jumps in numbers?
All your other numbers are normal. Look for what doesn't fit.

Ok, what airplane WOULD you trade your Mooney for?
in General Mooney Talk

I did trade real-time. My F for a beautifully-restored '56 C-310. Loved the Mooney, but the 310 is such a nice ride. Burns 20gph for 180kts, so that makes it about 60% more in operating costs all-in. So far, it has been extremely mx free and easy to work on.
I also like not having to pick a place to die if the engine quits at night over inhospitable terrain.
I DO miss the Mooney in some ways and maybe will return when the need for more lift goes away.
