  1. There seems to be a couple of threads that are coming off like Tesla commercials. I’m really happy for 64’s love affair with his Tesla and am in no way criticizing you for it. But what it comes down to for me and I’m sure many folks that don’t line up for the EV cool aid is that fact that we are having our freedom to choose taken away. As manufacturers are forced into Ev development they will stop producing better ICE innovations. And as a guy who obviously loves high performance cars and bikes you can’t deny how amazing ICE motors have become. For example a modern thousand cc sport bike makes over 175 horse power at the rear wheel and does so with incredible reliability. Many cars can do as well with their respective numbers. Once again it’s about choice. You mentioned LED light bulbs and were critical of people that didn’t line up for the technology. Light is a very subjective thing and personally I much prefer the look of a 100 watt incandescent over its equivalent LED but now I no longer have a choice 64, I know your not thinking your Tesla is going to save the planet but I’m certain my old lightbulbs weren’t going to melt the polar caps. And there are a lot of costs associated with the the installation of a home charge system. Back in my days working as a distribution electric estimator for one of the largest utilities in the country I had to engineer many jobs for customers that needed electric panel upgrades. Costs based on the tariffs could be in the tens of thousands if a customers additional load required a new transformer or possibly even a new pole to accommodate the larger XF. This was also possible for customers who were installing solar panels if the added power generation was greater than the existing XF could handle. And it was very common for customers who exceeded their solar demand would be required to pay an annual true up bill based on the co generation rates at the time. Often times in the thousands of dollars. Oh and thanks to the stupid folks in my home state next year I’m not going to be able to purchase anything that runs on a small gas engine. I don’t want a f...ing battery powered chainsaw. Personally I can’t stand most of this internet technology and the last thing I would want is to own a car that can record my behavior and share it with whoever thinks they need to know. Personally I just don’t understand this modern mentality of sharing every aspect of someone’s life with well you get the gist. Smart meters, appliances cars etc are just an easy way to open the door for government to control our behavior. old school guy for life.
  2. Doesn’t matter what kind of plane, totally sucks
  3. Wishful thinking you can clearly see the Mooney logo on the tail. Totally sucks
  4. Yes all true regarding the comparison to F1 but I think you’re missing the point. The F1 car does do these things at a higher level than the moto GP bike but the driver is surrounded by form fitting seats side bolsters and a serious harness. A moto GP rider throws a leg over and has to maintain control with nothing more than physical strength arms legs hands etc. The rider has to make the bike perform at this intense performance using his entire body like watching a gymnast on a balance beam going 200 mph. Don’t get me wrong I love the Formula one and the drivers are also incredible athletes. Also in modern F1 there is not a lot of passing just do to the nature of the sport DRS has helped making it more interesting whereas Moto GP there is a much greater level of close competition as the smaller size of the bike allows for many different approaches to cornering braking and acceleration out of the turn. There is more to racing than just lap times but no question F1 is definitely faster.
  5. M5 and Dr Daystrom. I often say how I hate getting old but thank God I’m not any younger. I think that those of you that just love all this technology are most likely correct about its application but I just don’t understand how blind you are as to the potential for total loss of control of the human experience. And when an Ai starts a new thread and a bunch of A I are making all the replies well what the f... is that going to be about I remember a quote from the Will Smith robot movie “so robots making robots, well that’s just stupid”. Anyway, enjoy your virtual world I’m going to go out and split some firewood for the coming storm.
  6. Noticed no one commented on your enthusiastic post. Yes Motogp is truly the most intense type of motor sport. Anyone that hasn’t experienced the shear violent way that a modern super bike accelerates and stops has no idea of the incredible athletic demands these riders face multiply by double for the power these GP bikes make. As a Yamaha fan I know this is going to be a tough year as the Ducati’s are going to be on top. But it’s only one race so we shall see. Enjoy the season. PS, this reply was not posted be a stupid AI bot box but by a passionate fan of a great sport.
  7. My 64d has the four rib elevators not the nine as indicated however the way I read this the “potential” that the weights may have been replaced requires the inspection regardless of elevator type. Seems this could apply to the entire fleet unless there was a change in the weight design for later models. I inspected mine visibly and do not appear to be hybrid. Will check with a strong magnet next time I visit hangar. Is there a way to get the PN visually from the weight itself. If the magnet doesn’t stick is this enough to avoid having to RandR the elevators. If not why even mention the procedure, type of magnet etc. in the first place.
  8. Sometimes thread drift can be entertaining, but for Pete’s sake this is about the loss of two fellow aviators and were talking about fuel prices. may they Rest In Peace and comfort to their families
  9. Not for nothing, first wishing a speedy and complete recovery for the flyers. Lots of discussion about breaking windows to evacuate I’m confused am I the only one that had it drilled into me from the beginning of my flight training that you should open the door when a forced off field landing is evident. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night
  10. Ok, breaking radio silence. Important subject for me as a kid I suffered from the worst hay fever you can imagine. I could tell you when the first acacia tree would bloom in the Bay Area even if it was fifty miles away. Took everything including prescriptions, shots OTC you name it. One particularly bad year when I was in my early 20’s a customer at a store I was working noticed how much I was suffering and suggested I try acupuncture. Yeah sure, OK. But in truth I was more sick of the side affects from the meds I thought I’d give it a try. Pulled out the yellow pages (pre internet) found someone and made a visit. Let me sum it up by saying it cured me with only four visits. Zero problems for about three years then had a little relapse went back for another round, three visits once a week. I have NEVER had an issue with allergies since. I won’t go into why it works, it was explained to me and it made total sense. For those of you that suffer from this you might give it a try.
  11. Well I was up on my CFI’s property clearing a tree that burned in the valley fire some years ago. Has been a great source of firewood. intended to start the new today’s flight thread when I got home and Doc beat me to it. Was really my only thing that I felt I could contribute to the forum. Just as well. Hoping all have a safe year in 2021. Audios amigos. Remember to get the gear down above all else.
  12. Thank you to those that took the time to share flights and other stories for the year 2020. A year that many would like to get a Muligan and perhaps a free drop with no penalty. Even with all the restrictions many were able to get some great flying done. Hopefully next year will be better for all. We shall see said the zen master. See you on the flip side. Bonal
  13. A great birthday gift from my brother. Anthony perhaps you could get it out of its 90 degree bank
  14. That much oil in that short time has to be an indication on where it went. Start looking in the obvious places exhaust, plugs, belly, pilot side means breather tube. All zero cost to do. Also try compression check but instead of looking for a number listen through the oil fill tube when each cylinder is pressurized for sound of passing air. I don't think it possible to leak that much and not find it reach the floor. Good luck, and a good reminder to all how important to check oil every time before starting the engine even after a short flight
