  1. You'll get another one... I'll save my pennies in the mean time.
  2. Just plug a USB stick into the port on the face of the JPI. A message will pop up asking if you want to download, click Yes. It will take a few seconds to start, you'll get the progress bar, then when finished, just remove the USB stick. You might need an adaptor.
  3. My Mooney will do 195 TAS on 9.5 gph for a NMPG over 20! But I gotta be way up in the flight levels to do that So not practical for flights under about 3 hours.
  4. Hey Anthony... Trolls can't be reasoned with, educated or otherwise improved. The only remedy is not to feed them.
  5. I've done a fair amount of business with Mr Fox. He's not in the business of collecting stuff to have sit around. When he posts something, it's priced to sell and will sell quickly. If you want to negotiate, you gotta find some amateur who's selling because of buyers remorse, getting divorced, lost his job, or something. The pro's know how to price to sell.
  6. You and I are exactly the same size. Here we are with three of us... all about the same size. Just stagger the front seats and there is plenty of room. The Mooney cabin is actually 1.5" wider than your 182. It's just the ceiling height that is much less, but not needed as you're just about sitting on the floor. Where are you located? Fill out your avatar with your location and one of us would be glad to take you for a ride in one. All Mooneys have the same dimensions for the front seats. Most Mooneys are difficult to put out of CG. The one exception might be the Mooney Rockets. But for most of ours, all you care about is gross weight, the CG will be fine.
  7. Just a quick note on this... you can post the link for the chart and that allows us to see more than just the snapshot in time that you post. It doesn't allow the public "into your account" or anything like that, but does make the one flight available.
  8. It's on my iPad. I thought the written test was not difficult. I did use Sheppard to prep for it.
  9. Just finished catching up the log book. So totals for 2018... 234 hours Total Time all PIC 209 hours Cross Country time 124 total flights all in my Mooney 19 hours Formation time
  10. I as well transitioned out of a Cherokee 140. It's a jump forward, but a comfortable and very enjoyable one.
  11. Yes! In fact you go on another list. On of those who have brought one back from the brink at considerable personal sacrifice, pain and expense. But it's a gift to the entire fleet to bring one back like this.
  12. I did them once in my M20C with a CFI. He was actually the owner of the flight school with lots of instructors. He was showing me how to perform the maneuver and blew right past VNE. He said he was surprised at how slippery the Mooney was.
  13. One of the required Commercial maneuvers is the Steep Spiral. I haven't done those yet, but then I don't subscribe to the "shock cooling" myth either. I'll probably do some the next time up with the CFI.
  14. Apple Pencil mounted in my cockpit. Easy access and works so nice with the iPad Pro.
  15. Ok, sorry it's taken so long. But here is the cable I use with my GoPro inside the cockpit. It's a Hero3 but I could probably come up with a cable for the newer models as well. Notice this one has a 1/4" jack for the plane, a female version for a headset if sharing the same jacks, a large USB to plug into ships power (not required but eliminates battery issues) and finally the small usb that plugs into the camera. This puts crystal clear audio coms on the video while eliminating all the aircraft/engine noise. I have a Hero 5 Session that uses a USB C plug. I might try a micro-usb to usb-C adapter with this cable to see if it works. I'll report back. By the way, the best mount I've found for the camera inside the cockpit is this one. It does double duty holding my SensorCon CO detector when not using the camera.
  16. Reach out to @jgarrison and ask for his new pre-201 buyers guide. It will be a good education on the various models and the differences. It will also give you an education in how to value a vintage Mooney. After you read it, and see the value, send him a few bucks in exchange. He might also help you find a good one. If I were in your shoes, I'd be looking for an E. But as others have said, condition and equipment are much more important than the differences between a C/E/F. I still maintain that if you're looking for a long term investment, a good E with a few speed mods and manual gear, will be the most economical and most efficient Mooney (or Certified, four-seat, piston single) you can own.
  17. What @mike_elliott said. I pull the power and drop the gear. Those are the only two prerequisites for the maneuver, so then all that's left is to hit the right spot. I've got geometry, pitch, flaps, slips, and speed brakes to help me hit it. That's plenty of tools so no need to complicate things with the gear. At least that's what I'm practicing and it seems to be working out pretty well.
  18. http://www.cloudahoy.com/debrief/?key=jsCGHKBYGk1XVYzDj8E This was my first attempt at Chandelles, Lazy 8's, and Steep turns.
  19. Thanks! That's new on his site. I check it about once a month. I'll most likely place my order and get the latest and greatest.
  20. I've been meaning to ask Chase at @Avionics Source about the possibility of upgrading my PMA450 A for the B model.
  21. I learned after a visit to our local TRACON, that Flight Following is preferred by controllers. The more VFR airplanes on flight following, the easier their job is. They have to keep everyone away from IFR traffic and at least with FF they know you, your altitude, direction, intentions, and can call you. VFR not on FF is a much higher work load as they have to keep "on you" as they have no idea what the hell you're doing. So be nice to your local ATC and use FF. On another note, the Austin Pilots Facebook group started a campaign to get grocery store gift cards for the ATC staff. The limit on gifts is $20 to federal employees so we just made sure we got $20 gift cards. We met Monday night at a North Austin pub to collect the cards, and last night at a South Austin pub for the same reason. In just under a week, we collected over $5000 in $20 gift cards for the local Austin ATC I should say that the campaign was initiated and kicked off by Ken VeArd. He is the creator of the Pilot Partner electronic log book.
  22. I just spent the last hour reading through @jgarrison's guide. All 23 single spaced pages. It is spot on and must reading for owners of these vintage Mooneys. Even just the first few pages, before getting to any numbers, will answer so many questions about the different models, years, equipment, upgrades, etc. I've answered, it seems like a million questions here on MooneySpace about the differences between various Mooney models. Jimmy has it all detailed right here, very clear, and very well organized. Much better than I've ever done. I tend to be very critical of Mooneys we see come up for sale based on the either the asking price or the lack of upgrade, lack of use, etc. I think I follow the market pretty closely and have a feel for what various Mooneys are actually selling for. I can't find anywhere to disagree with Jimmy's valuation of the pre-201's. This guide is extremely detailed and full of excellent information. Every Mooney, even our "forever" birds, is for sale at some point. So it makes sense to know the market and have some consideration of the market when spending money on our airplanes. If you own a pre-201 Mooney, you should have a copy of this guide in your possession. And read it. I'm looking forward to your guide for the K's. 231 through Encore.
