  1. FIKI g3 is rough, more so if it's a TAT as it's about 75lbs heavier than the tsio-520
  2. Because you can have ac, fiki, and a turbo on the g5 and still have 1150 payload leftover I guess, idk
  3. You can't have it both ways. You can't push for less faa involvement and more industry certification and then bitch when the review isn't as thorough.
  4. I'd have to pull the engine and see how the drive is set up, I bet you could use a high torque motor like a winch and make it work, the electric version looks like a furnace fan motor mounted shaft down on the deck. There's always a way. I bet it uses a different gearbox though edit: wonder if a golf cart motor would work
  5. yeah they suck if it's wet. our hangar faces north and is always icy or snowy and our plane is a heavy pig so you really have to bear down on it if there's a little wetness or it'll just skid all over. Doesn't help we're pushing a 38' wingspan into a basically 40' door either, heh. If you lean on the handlebar with all your weight it helps a lot in the wet. I need to get a set of chains.
  6. they sell chains I believe. I don't have a set, or a chain, or whatever you call it for one tire, so I'm not sure how beneficial they are
  7. windows millennium, anyone? win ME I believe was technically windows 9
  8. Changing a carb is two nuts and a fuel line. If you think that is more work than replacing an engine I don't know what to tell you
  9. Just curious about it. Last owner was an acquaintance that dropped off the radar. based on what I can find I kind of fear the worst. Looks like it went to spring Branch which means Jimmy Garrison probably sold it but it's awkward to ask the conditions of the sale.
  10. Dude that's gonna be a bitch to solder. Junkyard ECU?
  11. Mines right in the middle stack above the keyboard. Real easy and bright blue. Hard to miss. I brief hit the lvl button, kill the engine, hit the chute
  12. the LVL button is nice for pax or a SDO pilot, too. it takes 10 seconds or so but it will recover. I brief it so they know where it is and what it does.
  13. even if it doesn't run, a new carb is like less than $15 and a few minutes to install. A gummed up carb is the most common issue I've seen with the two we've had, next are broken cables from the lock handle to the "jaws" that grab the nose, that's $3 of parts at home depot to fix. I've never seen drive/gear/transmission issues and the briggs engines are pretty solid, though that one doesn't look like a briggs, might be newer than ours. Even in non running condition that's a steal IMO.
  14. The Garmin esp works very well. It's a nice safety feature to have.
  15. X2 It is vital to wet the wings before ice has accumulated. If I think I need it I prime it on the taxi out
  16. That's not how it works. Jepp buys competing products that they are losing market share to and slowly strangles them
  17. I missed a good old fashioned piloto freakout? Dammit. Was it about how no one understands how the faa approved his tanks? LOL
  18. I get wingx for free and I'm not switching
  19. Rocket redoes the cowl flaps so I'd guess you lose the electric adjustability. All things equal I'd want the 252, 2x so if it's fiki
  20. Again of no use here but the fiki Cirrus has a different pitot mast and provides angle of attack info to the g1000 The basic has one tank, the fiki has two with automatic switching for 3.5 vs 7 gallons. The fiki has an automatic prime function iirc. And windshield spray bars. The basic relies on the prop slingers to cover the windscreen. I'm guessing hot props don't work well on composite blades.
  21. I can't speak to other airframes but the Cirrus basic and fiki are completely different systems, different panels, coverage, just totally different. The fiki is great, the basic sucks. The fiki if you need fluid right now will run both pumps and flood the airframe, the basic might wet out if you're lucky.
  22. Is the plane in SC? Many states have "fly away exemptions" that mean you don't pay sales tax just for buying the plane in that state as long as you take it out of state immediately. If they don't, meet in a nearby state that does
  23. Sent them packing? In what universe? Dale didn't announce stepping down until 2 months ago and is leaving in the first half of 19. Clearly the vision jet is troubled, they've already released v2. Call and see how many years you have to wait to buy one. They're literally selling them faster than they can build them. Yet Mooney plugs along with the same old product wondering why people don't want to buy a 50 year old design for nearly a million dollars. Cirrus has sold 7,000 airplanes in 19 years.... I had hoped the new models from Mooney were going to be a new leaf, then they cancelled them.
