  1. people are allowed to have opinions you know. even if they don't match yours.
  2. I think cirrus does a better job at reaching non pilots. Once you're in the cirrus system the ENTIRE system is designed to sell airplanes. You see an ad and think , hey I can do that. You go to a cirrus training center and train in a cirrus with cirrus standardized instructor pilots, then you buy a sr20, then you buy a sr22 then maybe a turbo, then a sf50. All along the way with CSIPs or at the cirrus factory center in knoxville. They have a very smooth flow through program to attract new pilots and keep them in the system. It's a good product and it's well supported. Why would I complain about 195 knots true at 15.5 GPH with a phenomenal panel and a comfortable interior? They're very good traveling airplanes and passengers love them. Every decision is made to sell airplanes from how many csips and cscs to where to allow them to the embark program. Cirrus seems to attract the younger tech savvy crowd as well. Not sure how they do that. Also since mooney got bought by the chinese it's never a white guy with a mustache in magazine ads, it's always an asian guy with an attractive asian lady carrying a bunch of shopping bags. #noracist #kindaracist
  3. You realize the prop will try to feather? The glide ratio is probably a lot less than 16 to 1 in that instance
  4. It's also bad times if the prop governor fails on takeoff
  5. Their cost is in line with the others. So it leaves it to inferior marketing or an inferior product... You decide.
  6. 787s we're doing about 650kt ground last week
  7. Point being it's a sold structure with gussets and tresses that has anchor points. Something composite or with less structure might need more engineering for anchor points. As far as any other use all it seems to do is collect rust
  8. Not sure, honestly. With a tubular steel frame it might not be so bad. They stcd them for 182s so it could be possible but it'll cost you some weight. I think there is room under the Mooney seat for the crush honeycomb. You need straps that go up to the nose and they're a lot easier to hide on a composite airplane than metal. The gear on the c do take some impact, if they set down in mud the impact force difference is pretty obvious, guy in France pulled a month or two ago and it looked pretty violent due to a very soft field, which would have been a disaster to land in.
  9. Brand c sells airplanes as fast as they can build them. Mooney is doomed unless they can tap that market somehow. IDk how to do that.
  10. Aspens are great. One adahrs and a histroy of failing screens in flight, what could possibly go wrong?
  11. The damage is 45 years old. If there was a problem with the repair surely it would have been found in one of the 45 annuals since. Same for the logs. How many times has the engine been overhauled since then? Who cares. Work done in 1972 has likely been redone 10 fold since.
  12. No. I think he understands how poorly equipped most ga planes are. OP has defrost, and pitot heat. What if he doesn't have an alternate air door and his filter or induction ices? What happens to his defrost at low power settings on the approach? Do you want to land in those winds with an iced up stall horn? I have pretty redundant systems for ga (dual alt, dual ahrs, dual adcs) and tks and I wouldn't have touched that. Awful lot of invincibility going around here today. There's a lot more to ice than keeping the airframe clean.
  13. That they actually improve their product? It sure does. 50 years later Mooney adds a second door.
  14. I think the gen 5 and 6 planes come with cies senders from the factory. The senders in the 1-3 fail occasionally. It's something like 5k to upgrade to the cies. The gauges are basically useless as long as you enter your fuel into perspective. Out totalizer is accurate to about a tenth of a gallon over a 5 hour flight. It's hard to see when you've filled to tabs with the small fuel necks and a large nozzle but a hell of a lot easier than dealing with monroy tanks and never knowing how much gas you really have. We have learned the hard way it's generally very bad to let a shop that isn't a cirrus service center work on the plane Our plane is an 08 and considered a dinosaur in the Cirrus world but Cirrus factory support is still good even our the "old" planes. It's almost like they understand that keeping owners happy sells more planes.
  15. It's extremely uncommon for a Cirrus tank to leak. They have much fewer joints than the skin of a Mooney The early planes are 20 years old now and no sign of needing reseals like the Mooney.
  16. Send it to dawley, that's who rocket said might still have the jigs http://www.dawleyaviation.com
  17. The 700 is phenomenal in TB. Especially with the yaw damper on. I didn't particularly care for the Aspen, if you can fit it in the budget I'd prefer the Garmin setup
  18. This is when you should have told him to stop working, put the plane back together, and call you when it's ready to pick up
  19. You'd be better off with a fiki turbo sr22 for that trip. A non fiki airplane is not the way to go and the avionics and autopilot are better. Youll give up 10 knots but you'll do it at 15.5 gallons per hour. 09 and up sr22s had the fiki option and go for a little under 400k. I've owned both. Even with several hundred hours of k time the rocket was a handful and you're likely not going to find a CFI with rocket time hanging around Eugene. They do have some quirks. If it's out of the range or you're dead set on a Mooney look for a fiki bravo. You could limit your search to a TKS 252 rocket but you could wait years for one to come up. The bravo is a better choice imo.
  20. I already have some on the way. Really nice guy, the professor. It's very inexpensive.
  21. I didn't realize they had to call you and get your permission first. I guarantee they sold at least 3. They're selling vision jets as fast as they can make them. Btw, cirrus won the Collier award for that plane.
  22. Good for him. That must make 3 sold this year so far. Last year Mooney sold 7 airplanes. Period. https://gama.aero/facts-and-statistics/quarterly-shipments-and-billings/
