  1. The electrical loads for modern avionics are so low I wouldn’t bother except: Lights which have switches. Autopilot/electric trim which is already marked.
  2. In either case you have 2 sources. It would be interesting to test how the human eye/brain reacts to one vs the other. In my case I have recognition lights (wigwag) in addition to 2 pairs of LED taxi/landing lights, if you don’t see me, you’re not looking.
  3. I don’t know how a sticky valve can destroy an engine. If it sticks open and collides with the cylinder head the worst that can happen is the valve is broken and you’ll need to replace a cylinder. Liberal use of MMO on last flight before oil change can help clean the valve stems.
  4. I don’t see why.
  5. This discount applies when you sell. If this will be your forever plane, I would buy the J vs F, more likely to recover more of your upgrade “investments”. It would be interesting to get statistics of multiple Mooney owners, what models they bought first vs what they upgraded to.
  6. It’s not whether the powder coating is stronger, it’s whether it stretches. If it does it will hide the cracks.
  7. No way, not for a 6 cylinder turbo engine. Don’t forget the propeller.
  8. I prefer the twinkling effect of them not being in synced.
  9. Another ad that tries to convince you this C/E/F is nearly as good as a J. :-)
  10. When I was looking, I tracked all Js for sale at various websites for months, which ones sold quickly, which ones didn’t. After a couple of months I could tell which ones were overpriced and wouldn’t sell and which ones were a good deal.
  11. What’s up with all the yellow circuit breakers caps? Seems to me you lose the effectiveness of them highlighting critical breakers (usually just autopilot and trim)?
  12. Looks simple, the video is ~1:45 minutes long…the G3X is not that simple.
  13. LED lights stand out among the backdrop of ground clutter, they’re safer, common for others to see long before I see them. I’m all LEDs, got lots of compliments back when they were more rare.
  14. 50R works great with G3X and portables, but doesn’t work with GTNs.
  15. Not exactly, yes draining the battery past 50% isn’t good if done often, but the battery does have its full capacity. And yes the voltage drops as it drains but the modern electronics won’t know the difference thanks to voltage regulators. And lithium batteries performance declines just like lead acid batteries. And yes the current drops for a incandescent light because the voltage drops, but that’s not an issue until it’s mostly drained.
  16. Thanks! The GFC controller is a rather simple electronics box, and therefore doesn’t require ventilation, there’s no vents except a a small slot on each front side which I think is for a mounting it snaps into, so any leaking should drip harmlessly to the floor. BTW, kerosene is a poor conductor of electricity, so it shouldn’t short out the electronics even if it gets in, the go around switch is also under it, but a cheap part to replace.
  17. On my 78 I think it was less, the analog gauge moved but not much. Don’t forget once you remove it you won’t have the unsightly hole creating drag. I believe the reduction of drag will compensate for the ram air.
  18. My AV20S is staying on, it thinks I’m still in air so doesn’t shut down when powered off…I can only assume my greasy landings are confusing it ;-) Do you see this?
  19. To protect against mud daubers or other insects clogging my fuel vents:
  20. I haven’t any trouble with JPI service, they’ve answered my questions, I sent my 900 to get a firmware update and they upgraded the motherboard at no cost.
  21. To be clear, I was referring to hinge covers on elevators, rudder…add ons installed by PO.
  22. I haven’t gotten it to work yet. I think you have to switch to internal GPS and then back to external, and there’s other limitations (no airways and GTN flight plan is empty)? In addition to Skip’s redundancy, I added AV20 to have a non Garmin attitude indicator with battery backup which also has AOA and Aera 660 which has its own GPS and battery. In addition I got rid of the pricey switches/breakers, moved the compass out of the way, and my useful load is now over a 1000lbs.
  23. The one of the aileron’s was damaged, I also removed the hinge covers because they prevented me from inspecting the hinges. Maybe saved me a couple of pounds.
  24. Mine (from Lasar) are attached with adhesive of some kind.
