  1. Yup, both tanks were looked at and had some preventive sealing applied. I’m using Scheme Designers to help in developing a good layout. I should have something from them in three weeks or so.
  2. Received word from my MX shop that they will fit me in prior to paint. All worked out after all. Thanks to all replies
  3. Hi Don, Glad this post is making the rounds again. If you are still making them or have a pair handy, I would appreciate it. I have a 1997 M20J. Thanks Angelos
  4. They will have the plane for three months while I’m out of the country, that’s why I’m considering doing the annual at the same time. I just haven’t heard or read anything about their maintenance operation, plenty on their painting.
  5. I have a reservation in early May for a paint job at Hawk Aircraft Services. My Annual is due by end of May. Thinking of having them do the annual while they have the airplane, less down time. Has anyone used them for an annual? Thanks
  6. On the way back to Melbourne from Marathon. Beautiful evening.
  7. I had to have the maintenance shop change the plugs, but I was right there ready for the next time.
  8. I have Tempest Fine Wire. Thank you all for the advice.
  9. During Annual I was informed they performing as required, and since then I’ve been having starting issues. So…
  10. First time changing the plugs on my 1997 J, anything special I need to know?
  11. Mags were removed and sent back to the shop that rebuild them. Received them yesterday and were reinstalled. I was told that “brushes” were changed out on the starting mag. Airplane started up right away, and I turned it off and waited various time lengths for restarts. All went well. Question, Is a 90 to 100 RPM drop acceptable for rebuilt mags?
  12. The mags were taken off during the annual and sent away for the 500 inspection, then reinstalled. Same mechanic did the work. They were sent to Maxwells Magnetos, Palm Coast FL
  13. Tried to do some trouble shooting today, couldn’t even start the engine. Normal, hot, even flooded start procedures would not work. It would turn over, cough like starting a few times, never actually starting. Really frustrated, memories from when first bought it.
  14. Nope, definitely not acceptable even though it’s within POH margins. Sounds like it they will be going back to the shop. Thanks
  15. Can a MX shop check both internal and external timing, or does it have to go back to the shop for internal timing adjustment?
  16. Timing was spot on when it was checked the second time. I have an EDM 900 for engine instrumentation. If they did not keep the plugs in some type of order (which I’m sure they did not since they didn5 think they would have to reinstall them), and they didn’t get the plugs in the same location that they were removed from, would that creat an issue?
  17. A bit of background. When I first bought 30FM I had a horrible time with engine starts. Hot, cold, flooded normal start, did not matter. I was stranded three different times at a fuel stop. I was ready to sell till maintenance finally took a good look and determined that both mags were not performing correctly and one was even loose and could not hold timing. Mags were replaced and for the next five years I’ve had absolutely no problems staring under any condition . Fast forward, I picked up 30FM from MX after its annual. It was time for the 500hr mag inspection. Did an IRAN on both. Now I have a 120RPM drop on both, before the IRAN the drop was 90-100RPM. Another issue was with the spark plugs. I was told they were not performing correctly when hot. MX had a hard time starting the airplane when it was hot. For five years I had no issue. They did not have any new plugs but did have a used set that were check out as good. I said to go ahead and replace the plugs with the used ones. When I did the run up the engine ran terrible on either plugs, left or right did not matter. Replaced with original plugs and it ran as before, but with the 120RPM drop on the mags. Question(s); Mag drop is not acceptable for redone mags, correct? Could the plugs be causing my issues with starting? (I had them recheck the timing)? How do I know plugs are bad? Any special considerations when changing plugs? thanks Angelos
  18. I got lost/confused in this thread. I have 1997 M20J, and need shock disks, will this help me? thanks
  19. Current price at Aircraft Spruce is $230 each. Crazy!
  20. https://avunlimited.co/ Has anyone used this company for landing gear disks? It’s based in South Africa and it sees they “build” the disks as required, like an owner supplied part. Angelos
  21. What is it, what does it consist of? My J is due it’s 500 Mag check, it is at annual right now. Mechanic wants to send away for rebuild due to 500 hr check. Both mags check just fine during run up, 80 on Left, 100 on Right. Does anything need to be done? Thanks Angelos
  22. Hi John,

Just saw your post and where you are located. Congrats on your move to the free state of FL.

I never saw a post on your completed interior. How did it go, any pics?

      Angelos,

Thanks for the note. The interior upgrade went so well I sold it!

In reality, my essential tremor is getting worse, and on an approach down close to minimums, I had one which almost caused a LOC event. I love flying, but not enough to put myself or my passengers (usually my wife) in danger. So I had Jimmy Garrison list it, and he sold it in about 1 week to a Navy Commander up in northern Vermont! If you search Flightaware for N5767Z, you will see his recent travels.

I still go up with a friend in his Commander 114, but I am never the sole pilot. Somewhat bittersweet, but I can still get my flying fix. And another friend, who now has my job at my previpous company, has an F model he lets me drive with him every once in a while.

Lakeland is a blast! This first year we have traveled a bit spending a couple weeks in central Europe on a Viking river cruise, and I am traveling back and forth to Texas to handly my mother's affairs as she is 96 and lives in her house since she refuses to leave it. Because of her health, she requires help about 14 hours a day, so I stay busy. My wife has been trekking to the beach every other month with a friend she has known since grade school, and they are currently planning a two week trip to France, England, and Germany next month. Her friend still works and has to go to those spots on business, so Laura is accompanying her as her "assistant".

What adventures have you had lately? Give me a shout if you make it to Sun-n-Fun. Would love to catch up F2F.

      John

  23. The problem seemed to “have resolved” itself after the third unit. Installer just kept sending the unit back to Garmin, and just like that after the third unit all was fine. I was never told what, if anything, they did to resolve the issue.
