  1. Whatsamatter Paul?!! You didn't like the weather in Maine? You're gonna wear that new K out before you even get to know her![emoji14] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  2. Metric fastener on a MOONEY?!! OMG, the world IS ending! Look out west coasters, N Korea has LAUNCHED!!! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Install a G600, GTN750, GTX345, GMA345, and GNC255 in a 1967 VW Beetle and you've exceeded 60K! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  4. By "seal" I mean put a bag or plastic around it and seal any openings with tie-wraps, tape, safety wire, or whatever it takes to prevent ANY Corrosion-X from penetrating. Keep in mind that it's designed to penetrate everything and will even get between lap joints. I plan to actually remove my roll servo next time I fog the wings. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  5. Borderline?!! You HAVE met him, right Tom? Hard to miss with that noisy-ass parrot on his shoulder. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  6. Guys, if the new G5 and Autopilot options interest you then please contact Garmin as noted several places above. Here's the reply I got following my e-mailing them earlier this morning.
  7. Email them right now at aviation.sales@garmin.com and tell them you fly a Mooney M20 and want it added to the AML.
  8. At $7,000 for the new GFC 500 autopilot at least they're in the ballpark now with Tru-Track and Trio. I like the idea of a no-clutch servo if it's well done. With the new G5 capabilities I may be able to keep my Century II-B and shed my vacuum system after-all while saving up for the GFC 500. It may be a while before we're added to the AML anyway. I'm particularly happy they're not abandoning those of us flying behind a GNS530W. Garmin says... To express interest for the certification of additional aircraft types for either the GFC 500 or GFC 600 autopilot, please contact aviation.sales@garmin.com and provide specific aircraft make/model information. I just got through doing this.
  9. The probe in my '78 J failed a couple of years ago. There was no wandering at all; it simply quit. Your issue looks more like a poor connection somewhere but could be internal to the probe. As Doc mentioned AS sells them (for only $112). https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/rochcht.php Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  11. It's the contact number given on the house.gov website and routes to a joint congressional switchboard. You "press 1" for the Senate or "press 2" for the House. If the number you posted goes directly to the House that's even better if you're specifically contacting your House Rep (which is what everybody should be doing at this time). Thanks for the additional number and comment.
  12. It's too late to send a letter, and likely too late for an e-mail to be considered. So please call the number above and tell your House Representative that you OPPOSE the bill HR2997. It's really very simple to do. And if you're not sure who your representative is click on http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/ and after entering your ZIP code you'll know who to call. If this bill gets through the House this week it will be much more difficult to stop in the House/Senate reconciliation process. Let's please not turn over our airspace to the airlines. Thanks!
  13. As spelled out in HR2997 the corporation directors will be selected from Passenger Air Carriers (~6), Cargo Air Carriers (???), Regional Air Carriers (~4), Business Aviation (2), FBOs and other aviation-related businesses (2), GA manufacturers (2), ATC’s largest union (6), Commercial Airports (3), Airport Executives (3), Commercial Pilot’s union (1), and General Aviation reps (6). The numbers for Air Carriers is dependent on passengers or tons of cargo carried so I cannot say exactly how many reps they'll have but the Passenger and Regional Carrier numbers are very close based on 2015 stats. It's the cargo numbers I'm unsure of. So, there would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 40-50 representatives in the non-profit "American Air Navigation Services Corporation", and of these representatives GA Pilots would only account for 6 positions (12%-15%) on the board. The 3 Air Carrier categories would account for 16 positions alone, and if you added in Commercial Airports and Executives you're already up to 22 or approximately 50% of the voting power. This doesn't even take into account ATC Controllers' interest in wage/benefit improvements (which they deserve IMO) which would be a strong impetus for increasing fees. Neither I, nor the AOPA, nor the EAA, nor the NBAA see this as turning out fairly for General Aviation interests.
  14. Good eye! This ones a 42' though. Slow for sure but a helluva lot more efficient than many of the fuel-to-noise converters I've utilized in the past.[emoji846] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  15. Probably best as you'd have had to dodge the drone we used to capture that pic. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  16. I hope that 90% of us have also contacted all their legislative representatives as you've done. That may be the follow-up poll.
  17. I'm surprised by the lack of discussion on this matter and am curious if this issue is of concern to you.
  18. That's awesome Larry! I'm sure you and Sandy will be making plenty of trips to the beach house in the future. If you'd have held a southerly heading for 145 nm after takeoff you'd have flown right over me (not my boat).[emoji16] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  20. Prist is foamy, works well, and at $6.50 a can at Aircraft Spruce it's $10.25 cheaper than Plexus. I also use Pledge on the wings and cowling, and when I get over-spray on the windscreen it works fine there as well. Now my IA insisted last week that I try a new (to me) product (polish/sealer) called "F11 Topcoat". It did a marvelous job of making my old windows look new again but at $59.97 for a 16 oz bottle I won't be using it for routine cleanings. I should mention that for the ~$60 they also throw in a free micro-fiber towel.
  21. Thanks for bringing this up Brandon; this is very serious. EVERY US-based Mooneyspace member should take a moment to voice their opposition to the House Bill which basically hands over our freedom to fly to the big airlines. This would have serious negative consequences for GA which is already struggling. If you don't join the efforts to stop this then don't come on here crying later when you're no longer allowed to land at class-C and class-B airports. And when ATC sends you a bill for filing IFR don't complain; just pay it. If you don't think this can happen in the good-old-USA then just ask any of our European members how difficult and expensive it is to fly GA there! The AOPA and EAA both make it easy to contact your congressional representatives. If you're not a member of either I still urge you to do this on your own. For AOPA just go to: https://app3.vocusgr.com/WebPublish/Controller.aspx?SiteName=AOPA&Definition=ContactLegislators&IssueID=9550 and follow the instructions. EAA members can visit: http://govt.eaa.org/ctas/oppose-air-traffic-control-privatization to make your opinion known to your representatives. If you truly care about this issue it would also be a great idea to send a modest donation to the AOPA PAC. I'm not a big fan of PACs but for the first time ever I sent $25 to this one last week. I urge you to do the same. Note that this shouldn't be a political issue but oddly ATC privatization is widely supported by the GOP and almost universally panned by the Democrats. Particularly if you're a Trump supporter it's vital that you let your REPUBLICAN representatives know that you OPPOSE ATC privatization. Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox now. One more thing... here's the letter that's sent when using the AOPA contact site. I'm sure they wouldn't mind your copying it if you send a letter on your own. Dear Congressman/Congresswoman, I live in your district, and I am asking you to let your leadership know that you oppose H.R.2997, the 21st Century AIRR Act, which would remove air traffic control responsibilities from the FAA and turn it over to special interests. General aviation in America contributes more than one million jobs and over $200 billion to our economy, and foreign countries that have privatized air traffic control have seen this vital segment falter. Our nation’s air traffic control system is the safest and most efficient system in the world – and we want to keep it that way. We support the modernization of our system but not privatization. The 21st Century AIRR Act would bring uncertainty and unintended consequences without achieving the desired outcomes. A privatization proposal that requires protections for a large and important segment of aviation (general aviation) is fundamentally flawed. Rather than adding tens of billions of dollars to our debt and spending almost a decade to transition to a privatized air traffic control system, that funding would be better used to continue the progress to update and modernize our air traffic control system. Thank you in advance for contacting House leadership to say you oppose HR 2997.
  22. Amazing how much useful information is on MS that I've yet to find.
  23. It's required under the CAR 3 certification that we share. This is true for a C too. The factory CHT Gauge is part of the "required basic equipment" as noted in the type certificate and spelled out in CAR 3 section 3.675 (see below). Note that you ARE NOT required to have an EGT Gauge. § 3.675 Cylinder head temperature indicating system for air-cooled engines. A cylinder head temperature indicator shall be provided for each engine on airplanes equipped with cowl flaps. In the case of airplanes which do not have cowl flaps, an indicator shall be provided if compliance with the provisions of § 3.581 is demonstrated at a speed in excess of the speed of best rate of climb. § 3.581 General. The power-plant cooling provisions shall be capable of maintaining the temperatures of all power-plant components, engine parts, and engine fluids (oil and coolant), at or below the maximum established safe values under critical conditions of ground and flight operation.
  24. That looks like the right one. I have this style on my installation but sadly paid JPI full price for it. This CB wishes Jetdriven had made his post 2.5 years ago. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  25. I'm not privy to the details but as I recall from the Facebook posts he burned through 20AMU in fuel, handling, and fees by the half-way point. 'Tain't cheap, particularly on his (Amelia's) chosen route. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
