  1. This might be a more fitting venue for Mooney Max than the Mooney Summit, and in fact, back in 2016 Former Mooney CEO Vivek Saxena was pushing hard that the Summit to be in Kerrville, but he was uncomittal to providing rooms for our Subject matter experts or a seminar space, something the great people at Tampa Airport Authority currently provide and previously @rocketman had done for the Summit in Panama City Beach. Thus making the event venue Kerrville lack economic substance or requiring excessive registration fees. With that said, keep the suggestions for the Summit coming, that way Alex and Dan can drive the event to be even more of what people want. If it is just to catch a really cool eclipse as a bonus, @LANCECASPER how about having a good ol fashion flyin, Tejas style with David doing some cowboy steaks? You might have sold the resturant, but you still know how to burn a cow!
  2. Dear Mooney Enthusiast, In spite of some low IFR weather in the morning we had 6 Mooneys and 1 Bonanza bring 13 people to Lakeland for our last event. We all enjoyed the good company, food, and inexpensive self serve fuel price. Our next event will be this Saturday, December 9 at Sebring (KSEF). Foreflight shows their price of self serve 100LL at $4.72 at this time. All events start at 11:30. Future events: December 9, Sebring (SEF). January, 13, Williston (X60). February 10, Fort Pierce (FPR). Please let me know by Thursday if you are going to try to come so I can give the restaurant an approximate headcount. If you tell me you are coming, and can’t come do not worry about telling me, just do not come. I do not want anyone flying for any reason if they shouldn’t. Hope to see you soon, Dave and Ruth 11605 Lane Park Rd. Tavares, FL. 352-408-3343
  3. Some community colleges offer A&P classes for free once you hit 60.... Dang, going to miss those good steaks....
  4. Carlos builds a good engine. very attentive to the small tolerances and details. Dont think anyone does a 7 angle valve job tho...thats a bit overkill for something that isnt twisting 15000 RPM
  5. I found it to also add some tarnish mitigation after one use. in fact, I didn't need to repolish it for at least 2 years when I sold the Bravo. Somewhere on here I have posted B4&after photos. Amazing easy to use and cheap.
  6. The article did say Monroe was a master pilot, but had received this award a few years ago. Once we vet his widow, we will reach out to her and offer support from the Mooney Summit. I have her name and address
  7. I will engage the Bill Gilliland foundation once verification of the deceased is obtained and his surviving spouse contact info is secured. RIP, the link I was sent late last night was pretty gruesome.
  8. David, Dan.. What I do that seems to work every time on hot starts HEAT SOAKED: Run low boost 1 min with mixture and MP at idle cutoff to cool fuel pump and possibly evac lines HOT START MP and mixture full in. run Hi Boost until max fuel flow (about 3-4 sec) Crank, slowly retarting MP towards idle. Stop retarding 1/2 way if not fired while continue to crank By introducing a bit more than needed fuel and then allowing the air/fuel mixture to reach the happy point when cranking, you will "stumble" on the correct ratio to get it fired. Continentals typically need fuel while lycs dont when hot.
  9. Andrew, One of my clients and good friends is the head of radiology at MD anderson. Let me know if we can help.
  10. Dear Mooney Enthusiast, We had some low weather initially, but basically good weather for our last event at Flagler. Three Mooneys and one Piper brought 8 people to lunch. The initial low weather delayed three people who arrived as the rest were leaving, so Jim Waymire, Ruth , and I stayed and visited while they ate their lunch. Our next event will be this Saturday, November 11, at Lakeland (KLAL). Foreflight shows their price of self serve 100LL at $4.95 for self serve at this time. All events start at 11:30. Future events: November 11, Lakeland (LAL). December 9, Sebring (SEF). January, 13, Williston (X60). Please let me know by Thursday if you are going to try to come so I can give the restaurant an approximate headcount. 11. The Mooney Summit, Inc's Bill Gilliland foundation will reach out to Michael David. Get well soon Michael.
  12. Scott, you can use your new CO detector to spot where in the cockpit (most likely wheel well or door seal) by seeing where it suddenly goes higher. A second person helps here.
  13. What? how come parrots are not allowed to log PIC also?
  14. Thanks, Scott. I have been in touch with Rob and will have Robert work with him.
  15. DM sent Rob. Thanks for the plug Dan.
  16. Cons are blow by bi products (combustion acids, etc) are dumped back into your crankcase to magnify contamination of oil supply, and it can disguise a ring issue, Pros are you don't have to clean the belly as often.
  17. Dan we missed you and Fran. Did I mention there is a casino close by......?
  18. Dear Mooney Enthusiast, I am sad to report that long time member Phil Baumann passed away on August 28. He started coming to our lunches in June 2004, just 6 months after we started, and came frequently thereafter. He will be missed. We had good weather for our last event and 6 Mooneys brought 10 people to Winter Haven for a good time of visiting and eating. Our next event will be this Saturday, October 14, at Flagler (FIN). Foreflight shows their price of 100LL at $5.62 for self serve at this time. All events start at 11:30. Future events: October 14, Flagler (FIN). November 11, Lakeland (LAL) December 9, Sebring (SEF) Please let me know by Thursday if you are going to try to come so I can give the restaurant an approximate headcount. 19. Congrats to Alex Gertsen and Dan Bass for putting on such a superb, professional event. The speakers were outstanding, the food exceeded everyone's expectations, the facilities were absolutely first rate. Having Frank Crawford from Mooney give us the "inside scoop" on what was going on at Mooney was quite a nice surprise. Well done! The Mooney Summit couldnt be in better hands.
