Rob, here is what I use on the plastic lenses https://www.amazon.com/NOVUS-PK1-8-Plastic-Scratch-Remover-Bottles/dp/B002UCYRZU/ref=sr_1_8?crid=29OBJW8FFN9AI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.rEfS2Z0Nh7cGsY1LXpJOpim-1k9KW-iZwHMOJIEA1n7erCEsiVxOEt-l_I_3hc-3B7TGTI3JxAiH2XwcZhGjt9mke4pCfzUL_y0cvYEuyrcBL7B7C29wEoEtwnJ8SM-1uI4GqnUPPzJG4VsLD_qsDnIXj4Zsrp36AjGUcnLEB2mtGHg4eCA8AFMP54WNSg4YilHiEBFgCEHwH04Ljju0l71-lUwOz2U9lD6ea-ViaJ7N1HGA4ZkQ7f991Gb1EttUR-Jwlr1nZ6Euh5KpBu8-8vUPEuxlxCMYgFVTNBIm13Y.3o9EWgB8tx-d-46VuzJwSw5VtgFxT60ZjLC0WrX-aUw&dib_tag=se&keywords=plastic+polish&qid=1709159045&sprefix=plastic+polich%2Caps%2C129&sr=8-8 and if your J has a polished aluminum spinner, this stuff cant be beat for ease of use and for shine longevity https://www.amazon.com/CALIFORNIA-CUSTOM-Products-Deoxidizer-Stainless/dp/B0BD1FHV8F/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3NQOQT76EB7V8&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Ld7IYfdD7kUshjrbI5QrU14i5Ur4YefrqcNWWyBTVHE618fG10MamFXnpjS2pi7VCejwlTyUPNAL_cFMvMVWBbbLzgXxUvkXqlbPXozc_wHySKsEoRjgrwn9XSDM5k5bslzwgIL8QUYLTNS9zQDvaPnDJl4eKjjXH61XNtV0nNDaoJJZaAPRwZD0IMrYi2ul7-ltKNzff6uTXgRY4v2mtHKWH27bTzpe8znH-Mwm3EGF-LdXLru_6Zc2YU3f1Z9jEk2UW2F3DaRyzXAdjyDqDPzI7EKwT4s1sWkOetMXUUQ.rd3UkKdFgBPtE0Oqm6mkiV5ZBwCmGA1_IfiK4pxnv3I&dib_tag=se&keywords=california+purple+metal+polish&qid=1709159193&sprefix=california+purple%2Caps%2C123&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1 You have my contact info, let me know if I can ever help you in ownership or flying concerns. I hope we will see you at the Mooney Summit next Oct!
  2. sure do, which model Mooney are you seeking instruction in and when are you needing training? This makes a huge difference on who to have do your training
  3. Agree with Rich, just have your mx yank the suction screen if he's up to the task and check if any part numbers are found on metal shavings if present. A failing tappet will leave parts of itself there Everytime.
  4. Regarding pulling a cylinder. You are willing to purchase a plane with an at or near tbo engine. You already know there will be wear on the tappets and cam lobes and you already know you will be replacing and overhauling soon. You already have a discounted sales price for this I assume. If I were the owner I would not agree to this after fully disclosing all known engine conditions anyway. All kinds of new issues could be introduced for no reasons not previou$ly mitigated by price You need to focus on the quality of the airframe and corrosion condition. If acceptable go for it knowing your going to have to spend the big bucks on the engine soon. If the tanks haven't been resealed in 20 years, they will need it coming up. That sealant, like bladders, don't last forever Have someone who knows how to pre purchase inspect a Mooney do a proper pre buy, you will get your value there. The Internet opinions are for us old armchair quarterbacks to enjoy reading
  5. It will be the effect of being slammed shut a few times. get it adjusted and always brief pax that you will secure the door. Did I mention groping is allowed in your own plane
  6. Glad to hear it was easy, Dan
  7. This^ Many intrinsic and subjective advantages to getting your fingernails dirty. Coms and decisions are also not shelved or postponed on improvements, deferrals, or adjustments. You will also decrease billable times by up to 1/2 if your a contributor and not a hindrance
  8. following the maintenance manual 100 he inspection by a qualified experienced with Mooney IA and researching AD's, one would be hard pressed to do it in less than 3 man days
  9. The Summit will be First weekend in Oct, Dan. Did I mention the Hard rock casino is nearby?
  10. A very big ask in an area where wait lists exceed lifespans. Good luck, maybe someone will sublease if you catch them before anyone else does
  11. it's not, the Mooney Summit is a 501c3 charity that is established to provide education and support downed Mooney pilots families. Mooney Max and Mooney flyer are different completely and organized by different people. Camaraderie is a common deliverable by all, however
  12. Dan Bass @DanM20Cand Alex Gertsen @SkyBoundare busy planning another awesome event this year. Mark your calanders for Oct 4&5th. These dates have been vetted by all the stakeholders and venues. There is talk of possibly being able to sign up for upset training also from Lee Drumheller, lets see what shakes out. We will keep an updated agenda on www.mooneysummit.com as it is developed and firmed up. Look for registration to open soon also. Steve it will be great to see you again! EDIT Summit X dates are now Sept 27&28
  13. Dan, yours had a hose pop off in the belly in Calgary when it was picked up from previous owner. He reattached it before Sam bought it into the US. I know Don was aware of it during pre buy. Perhaps that's the culprit again.
  14. naw, that was Ernie, but Carlus was like fam to them and did all of Bills piston plane engines. Carlus told me their secret why their straight away handling was so much better than everyone the years they dominated
  15. Your close enough, just run the cyl up the road to 9a5 and let Carlus Gann prep it.
  16. Dear Mooney Enthusiast, In spite of being an overcast dreary day, we had 5 Mooneys and one Husky bring 9 people to lunch at Williston last month. Our next event will be this Saturday, February 10 at the Tiki Restaurant at Fort Pierce (KFPR). Foreflight shows their price of self serve 100LL at $5.39 at this time. All events start at 11:30. Future events: February 10, Fort Pierce (FPR). March 9, Winter Haven (GIF). April 13, Flagler, (FIN). Please let me know by Thursday if you are going to try to come so I can give the restaurant an approximate headcount. If you tell me you are coming, and can’t come do not worry about telling me, just do not come. I do not want anyone flying for any reason if they shouldn’t. Hope to see you soon, Dave and Ruth N46DT 352-408-3343
  17. PM me your email address and we can get this done.
  18. The rings are the sacrificial wear item, I would just go with std steel rings.
  19. Seems like I remember a shop that caught a plane in fire using an electric drill around the fuel tanks, perhaps during a sealant patch project ...People come up with all kinds of ways to get altitude unfortunately
  20. The Continental heat soaked method I use was from Mikey Miles, who like Don, probably hot started more planes per day than your average mooney pilot. The theory is to over supply with gas by high boost until max fuel flow, then let the air fuel mixture come together by starting with all the money knobs at full spend, then slowly reducing the MP and stopping 1/2 way while cranking until the right air fuel mixture hits. Once caught, you may need to work the MP like a 55 chivvy throttle to keep it alive. It also works fine on just hot starts, but Dons' method is just peachy for that.
  21. You can clean it completely then check with magnaflux powder applied to the suspecting area. Run it hard for a bit, then check. A crack will be apparent if cracked. The leak source will be apparent. A poor man's ver of magnaflux is spray foot powder.
  22. Exactly, simply push the door handle all the way forward like you were closing and locking, except with the door opened. in fact, it will be a B!t©h to reclose at 120 kts
  23. Sometime, for practice, climb from the pilots seat and use the baggage door exit to get out. Now, imagine doing this with possibly a broken clavicle, a few broken ribs and a big gash in your head. Plan B would be to make sure you prop open the door if you are landing anyplace but a runway.
