I say go for it and have a blast doing it.
I think it’s awesome when people breath new life into a any old airplane.
I purchased my 70C as a total runout back in 95. I practically replaced every nut, bolt, rod end and all other components you can think of.
I did have a AP / IA that worked with me during this process which I think is a must, it will save you a lot of $$$$$$.
Some Of the (best) mods I did are flap seals, cowl closure, power flow and three blade prop , all combined helped immensely with climb on hot days.
Every where I land I always get compliments, every shop that has annualed it since my IA retired is stunned with its condtition.
I hear many that say it’s only a C, you will never get over 40-50K out of it, I call baloney. I’ve been offered way north of that many times just by word of mouth with locals in my general area.
I had so much fun over the years restoring my C I got very bored afterwards, I’m now pretty far into building my Vans RV-7 which is another fun build...........

Amazing Mooney,.....

I always use the electric trim for cruise and landing. After landing I manually reset to take off, quicker.

Not sure if this is what you have ?
Way back I Installed the eclectric (TAIL) trim from aero trim by Norm.
The web is aerotriminc.com.

Most all controllers I have dealt with are very professional even here in the Chicago area
I totally understand how controllers can get frustrated with some people.
Paychecks are delayed, they will get everything owed to them.

I’ve had my 540 for some time now, never had a Garmin but flown with many of them in other planes. Prior in my Mooney I only had a GX65 so my Avidyne was a fresh install. I LOVE IT! Very easy to use, always rock solid and never a problem.
Nothing against Garmin but Ill be adding another 540 to my RV -7.

Didnt see it mentioned but make sure to ground your aircraft AND your fuel can (metal or plastic) before draining.
Years ago I witnessed what could go wrong.

Since 1995 I had cab ice once returning from Florida during February. DPA ILS ran into some lake effect snow poping in and out of cloud. I noticed a rough run, pulled carb heat and heard several backfires then cleared up. I had a carb temp installed before flying in those conditions again. Never had carb ice during VFR flight, but ya never know.

I’ve been building my -7 as time permits over the last five years and have really been enjoying the building process.
Will be moving it to my hangar next month so I can start the firewall forward portion.
Once you fly one you will be wondering why you didn’t do it sooner.

Little advice / info needed.
I currently have my 70C electric gear model in for its yearly inspection at a local well respected shop. The shop said the left gear pre-load needed reset and the nose gear also. The labor on the left gear was 1.5 hours and to set the nose gear its 9.5 hours. Does this labor for the nose gear pre-load sound right ????
Also while I’m In for service my aileron links / bearings are being replace along with the rudder link / bearing . Mooney currently these for $550.00 each with a three day lead time, the shop quoted 12.5 hours for the R&R. Does the labor on all three links sound correct.
Thanks for for any input.

I have one, worked when removed 10 or so years ago for S-Tec upgrade.
McCauley 3Blatt Prop for 1977M20C
in Vintage Mooneys (pre-J models)

I replaced my two blade several years ago for a three blade.
I noticed no real airspeed decrease.
Climb is much much better on hot days,. ( main reason for upgrade )
I experienced no vibration problems. Make sure to have balanced once installed.
My glide is not reduced.
A tad more nose heavy but a light weight starter, alternator really helps.
