  1. I replaced my two blade several years ago for a three blade.

I noticed no real airspeed decrease.

Climb is much much better on hot days,. ( main reason for upgrade )

I experienced no vibration problems. Make sure to have balanced once installed.

    My glide is not reduced.

A tad more nose heavy but a light weight starter, alternator really helps.

  2. I say go for it and have a blast doing it.

I think it’s awesome when people breath new life into a any old airplane.

I purchased  my 70C as a total runout back in 95. I practically replaced every nut, bolt, rod end and all other components you can think of.

I did have a AP / IA that worked with me during this process which I think is a must, it will save you a lot of $$$$$$.

Some Of the (best) mods I did are flap seals, cowl closure, power flow and three blade prop , all combined helped immensely with climb on hot days.

Every where I land I always get compliments, every shop that has annualed it since my IA retired is stunned with its condtition.

I hear many that say it’s only a C, you will never get over 40-50K out of it, I call baloney. I’ve been offered way north of that many times just by word of mouth with locals in my general area.

I had so much fun over the years restoring my C I got very bored afterwards, I’m now pretty far into building my Vans RV-7 which is another fun build...........

  3. Since 1995 I had cab  ice once returning from Florida during February.  DPA ILS ran into some lake effect snow poping in and out of cloud. I noticed a rough run, pulled carb heat and heard several backfires then cleared up. I had a carb temp installed before flying in those conditions again. Never had carb ice during VFR flight, but ya never know.

  4. Little advice / info needed.

I currently have my 70C electric gear model in for its yearly inspection at a local well respected shop.  The shop said the left gear pre-load needed reset and the nose gear also. The labor on the left gear was 1.5 hours and to set the nose gear its 9.5 hours. Does this labor for the nose gear pre-load sound right ????

Also while I’m In for service my aileron links / bearings are being replace along with the rudder link / bearing . Mooney currently these for $550.00 each with a three day lead time, the shop quoted 12.5 hours for the R&R. Does the labor on all three links sound correct.

    Thanks for for any input.
