  1. I had one of those update questions come up and almost pushed the wrong button. I don't remember the exact verbiage, but I thought it was along the lines of Update Now, Update Later, and do not update. The "Update Later" turned out to mean it would update later that night (or something along those lines). Is it possible that's what happened to you?
  2. Get your A&P license and open your own MSC?
  3. But in this appeal, the judgment in favor of Flight Safety was upheld. Regardless, the individual instructor was never named, only the large (deep pockets) school. But I agree- I really wouldn't want to have to pay all of the lawyers' bills just to prove that I wasn't negligent in my instruction.
  4. I've been called worse than random dingus. But you're right, I shouldn't have stuck my nose in. I should have left this between you and anybody you wanted to argue with. Edit- But if you want to pick a fight, you should find someone who isn't as well respected around here as Mike Elliott is.
  5. And this thread isn't the first time you've asked questions and then gotten into an argument when you didn't like the answers.
  6. So then none of us CFIs here have to worry about it. That's a win-win!
  7. From your description, it sounds like your carburetor is set correctly.
  8. But what about using flaps on takeoff? Will that change the sequence?
  9. Bruce Jaeger can get it or knows where it comes from. It's a silicone product that gets glued on with clear RTV. I've only ever seen it in light beige, other colors may be available.
  10. Exactly the same as you described.
  11. Wait a second- WD-40 and a relief tube mentioned in the same post? José must be back...
  12. I trimmed my aluminum to get everything to fit. As you said, it's not structural. But the person you need to ask is the guy who's signing your logbook. Doing it the way he wants is the only thing that matters.
  13. Interestingly, for all 3 of us, we are comfortable with triple redundancy. (My printed copies are my third power source- sunlight!) I feel like I'm in good company with you two, even if I am the CB of the group.
  14. I carry 2 iPads and I still print out the airport diagram and the 2 most likely approaches I expect to fly. Just in case. A couple of pieces of paper to take notes on is pretty handy, and if my iPad overheats or falls on the floor it’s nice to have.
  15. When I click on my avatar, my info page comes up. Toward the bottom is a list of all my recent activity, to include things I’ve liked and responses I’ve written. The list is not infinite, but somewhat recent. Hope that helps.
  16. I don't have the exact information, but I have definitely heard the airplanes weren't "just fine" before they crashed. Hopefully Byron @jetdriven can chime in, he seemed to have good information regarding the Max.
  17. It's easy to like Ayn Rand. Her writings appeal to all of our baser ideas and emotions. And I agree with opposing collectivism and communism. But she also opposed altruism, which is at least a little un-American and quite definitely un-Christian.
  18. I don't currently qualify for VA health care benefits because I have private health insurance, but it's nice to have that as a safety net just in case. I do know many people, including family members, who use their benefits who receive very good medical care. Perhaps not gold-standard, but quite good. The negative stories in the press seem to give people the impression that the VA is universally bad, which it isn't. Is there mismanagement, fraud, and waste? Yes. I'm not sure how to remove mismanagement from any government run system when too often the jobs become a sinecure for employees. But the fraud and waste, just like with Medicare, seems to be at the hands of unscrupulous private sector medical providers.
  19. "It's not the size of your pen that matters, it's how you sign your name."
  20. See below, about $10 from Walmart. Very gentle, yet surprisingly effective. Easy to use.
  21. Chris, it’s not that I don’t like brunettes- I just can’t afford your preferences!
  22. Actually that panel is factory from 1964. I made a larger armrest and covered it and the old panel in new Airtex fabric.
  23. Damn. Fred beat me to it.
  24. I like it. I will admit I've always been partial to light beige instrument panels. Below are my before (black) and after (beige).
