  1. I agree. Not sure what they changed, but definitely different on my iPad- and definitely not for the better.
  2. A normal, old fashioned landing light will draw about 18 amps and will drain a battery fairly quickly at night. The Arcticair unit (nice, BTW) draws a minimum of 19 amps, with a startup draw of 40 amps with a level off at about 25 amps. I think you will be unhappy with this solution powered by your battery/ generator, and I think your battery life will suffer until you get the alternator conversion. I don't know this for sure, just guess-timating. The ice water cooler option would be significantly cheaper and your generator/battery could probably handle the draw, on the other hand.
  3. The alternator kit is $756 and will probably take 6-8 hours for the installation. Figure maybe $1200-1400 total, depending on labor costs? I don't know the current draw of an electrical AC system, but if you are talking about true air conditioning with compressor/evaporator etc., I'd guess no way for a generator to do that. If you are talking about the ice cooler type cool air pump, then maybe, but you'll be running it on battery power for all intents and purposes. Battery life may suffer accordingly.
  4. Ain't nothing wrong with Original ("Classic") panels. Very nice. Does the Loran pick up signals, or is it completely dead?
  5. 100% agree, IMHO.. Smooth engine + low CHTs = happy engine
  6. Try triple-clicking the home button. That reverses the image so white is black and black is white. Edit: if that doesn't work, go to Settings-General-Accessability. All the way at the bottom is Accessability Shortcut. Make that "Invert Colors".
  7. I may start a thread about wing inspection panels to see how long it takes Chris to post yet another picture of his instrument panel...
  8. Sorry, I hadn't made that connection. I'll stick with my opinion that anything more than a short body with Johnson Bar is elitist. Compared to us, you're ALL modern Mooneys!
  9. Not at all! I could have bought a 201 when I got my C, but I just love the simplicity of the C and it fits my mission perfectly. (Can you say Johnson Bar, carburetor, and hydraulic flaps? ) It is odd, though, that a 1977 M20J 201 has more in common with a 1997 M20J Allegro than it does with my M20C that was built only 13 years prior.
  10. Ah, geez. Here we go again...
  11. I guarantee that if a 1977 M20J owner sat in my 1964 C model he would say, "Holy crap, this thing is old! I'm glad my 201 isn't a vintage Mooney!"
  12. Don Maxwell explains all of this from his website: http://www.donmaxwell.com/publications/MAPA_TEXT/Alining Engine Using Shims/ALIGNING_YOUR_ENGINE.HTML
  13. There aren't any gear rigging tools for the up limit switch, it is simply a procedure from the maintenance manual. See paragraph f. The only gear rigging tool for electric gear airplanes is for the main gear pre-load at the retract point in the gear well.
  14. Not a dumb question. As always, Don Maxwell to the rescue! http://www.donmaxwell.com/publications/MAPA_TEXT/Alining Engine Using Shims/ALIGNING_YOUR_ENGINE.HTML
  15. A one-time STC (kind of like a field approval) would make it legal. Not impossible, but not easy either.
  16. I've been an airline pilot long enough to have flown with all types. I'll admit the young, pretty ones are nice to look at but as I get older I realize I would much rather work with the older, more experienced, and probably less attractive ones. At 50 years old, all I really want from a cabin crew is professionalism and the ability to deal with unhappy passengers so that I don't have to get involved. A cute 24 year old flight attendant who tells a passenger to stow his bags and turn off his phone doesn't get the same results as the middle aged woman who's raised three teenage boys. But the biggest key to me having a good day at work is NO DRAMA from the cabin. Good luck getting that from the pretty (but ditzy) 24 year old. Sorry to contribute to thread creep. I'm putting away the soapbox now.
  17. FWIW, I agree with you 100% so I'll express my appreciation that you said something for the rest of us. My excuse for not speaking up is that I was considering the source. Is everyone from New Jersey like Peter?
  18. Holy crap! I actually woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this. I just bought my GPS 155 TSO less than a week ago from a fellow MooneySpacer. LESS THAN A WEEK! Thanks for clearing this up so quickly. Maybe I can sleep tonight.
  19. Electric gear was an option starting in 1965 (I believe). It became standard in 1969 along with electric flaps.
  20. I'll go one step further and say it's about the Johnson Bar gear and hydraulic flaps. I understand that the later year F's all had electric gear and flaps, but the first ones did not, and of course the C's thru E's originated with the Johnson bar gear and hydraulic flaps. So that was what linked the F more closely to the A-E.
  21. Any other change than the indication? EGT? CHT? Engine roughness? A change that significant should present itself in multiple ways. FF change only would definitely make the indication suspect.
  22. Nothing's a problem if you don't get caught. Or try to file an insurance claim. But God help you if you do.
  23. You should show him pictures of your panel, Chris. He'll double his budget!
