  1. It's very bad form to respond to "For Sale" posts like some of you have. To rich for your blood, just pass it on by. No one is interested in your opinion of someone else's item and or price. (Don't like what your watching.....change the channel)

  3. I couldn't agree more, they should only contain people interested in your plane, hopefully the adm will be able to figure out how to fix this inherent problem. As you know everyone here has there own issues some jealous, some arrogant i.e. if your plane isn't just like theres, theres an issue with it.

  4. I fly that much in a year and will admit that you have to be in the airplane a bunch to do it. I think probably the only way to fly an airplane that much in a year would be if you are using it a lot for business travel and much of the traveling that you are doing are long cross country flights. I purchased my K model at the end of October last year. It was in the shop getting a new panel for five months (Feb-July) so my flying was limited, but I've still managed to put 150 hours on it in the time that it was available to me. i may be wrong about this but I've made an observation since joining this community. Mooney pilots seem eager to pick apart every aircraft that everyone is trying sell on this forum. Seems to me most people here would want you to sell your J for a higher price to improve the value of their own. The more these aircraft sell for the better off we are when we go to sell ours. I didn't think your initial price was out of line. If I had been a buyer and looked at your plane last October before I purchased the K, I would have scooped it up in a heart beat. I looked at lots of crap before finding my K. I hope you sell this aircraft for what you were asking for initially. I hate to see that you have dropped the price by so much. I think we as a community are shooting ourselves in the foot when we pick these aircraft that come up for sale apart. This is the first place most people will look when purchasing and some of the things posted here create an unrealistic expectation in buyers about the value of these aircraft that ends up hurting all of us in the long run. Just my two pennies.

  5. Hey all, Charlie here. I'm airplane shopping and I'm leaning quite heavily towards an M20J. I live in the Jupiter, FL, area, and would be tying down nearby. My home field for now is F45. I've sat in one, and it's a bit snug, but for the most part I liked it. I've never flown one, though. I found a local club that has one, surprisingly, but it's out for long term maintenance. Is there anybody around that rents time in Mooneys, or maybe even somebody that would take me around the patch a time or two just to let me try the airplane on for size? I'm more than willing to comp fuel, lunch, etc. (I'd offer sexual favors but my lawyer tells me I granted my wife exclusive rights with steep penalities...) I'm a well qualified buyer, and am sussing out financing, etc. I don't have renters insurance but can get it quite soon. As for prior experience, I'm an ATP with 6200 hours. I haven't flown much in the last two years, but have a current BFR and medical. Anyone with suggestions is welcome to chime in, by all means. Thanks again. Pic for attention.

  6. Long prior owner of my C sent me a letter. He owned her for 19 years, mid 70's to mid 90's. Used to fly her from Virginia to Port Au Prince, Haiti several times a year, refueling in Georgetown, Bahamas. That's a lot of time over the water! Also told me she was featured in a GA promotion video filmed at Manassas airport and the video played at the Smithsonian for many many years. Sure would love to get my hands on that video! I replied to him (he supplied his email) and asked if he had any old pictures or anything. Sure would be neat to see some old pictures and that video would be awesome!

  7. I don't think I've said it before, but I really want to just thank everyone in this group. You have all been a fantastic inspiration and sort of like family. I know some of us get in heated debates, whether it's about tires, LOP, or whatever but all-in-all, this forum has been an immense part of my ownership experience. Many of you have made contact with me via PMs, Facebook, texting and calling and many of you have been an immense help to rectifying problems, offering services, ideas, and sending me unwanted items I've had since joining the Mooney family. Being a young owner I really don't have the excess funds to chip in with the multitude of flying groups I'm in, but MooneySpace and the Mooney Caravan/foundation are two I am happy to at least donate a few dollars to even remotely try and pay back how much of a resource it's been to me. I hope to one day be able to spill some knowledge I've learned to newer members. This forum is invaluable and its member's nothing short of a family. Again, just wanted again to give warm-hearted thanks to you guys. And let's all keep the discussions civil because I might have more questions on tires soon

  8. Apologies for pouring a little more fuel on this thread. But as a Mooney owner, I'm very interested in the value of our airplanes. So I'm sure I must be missing something here and I'm just asking for clarification. We all know the engine is 2193 SMOH. So the engine is run out and the airplane should be priced as one that needs an engine. The asking price on controller is $77,500. The owner agreed to $10K to cover the repairs uncovered by the pre-buy inspection. (Not including the engine overhaul) As I read it, the result would be a very well equipped, 1977 M20J that has passed a Maxwell pre-buy inspection for $67,500 + the cost of an engine. Considering the list of equipment, I think that's actually quite a fair price? What am I missing here. Would this not be a $100K M20J with a fresh engine? I'm not suggesting @Firebird2xc made a bad decision, I'm just curious what everyone thinks about the valuation.

  10. I want to provide some more clarity to this resistive versus frequency conversation. I spoke to JPI yesterday in an attempt to get an answer to what firmware I needed. When I told them I was installing a CiES flow sender system, the tech guy sent me to the sales team. The woman I spoke with told me that she personally went up to the CiES booth at Oshkosh and informed them they needed to stop telling people if they had a JPI 900 or 930 they were good to go. This, along with the fact that if you did not know what you were buying from CiES, you could end up with senders set up for frequency or resistive (green wire senders) and trying to sort out what to do next. I also spoke with Scott earlier in the week both verbally and through email over an issue with my senders not being labeled correctly and found out that I was sent the wrong inboard senders. CiES is stepping up to the plate and sending me the correct ones. Based on the conversation with Scott, I think he is struggling with all of the airframe differences that these senders can be installed in and I think if you buy these you will need to be patient as they get their documentation and processes nailed down. Based on feedback from those of you who have installed them -- if you want accurate fuel gauges, this is the way to go. It is just not a slam dunk to install them. Now for the technical information for JPI 900/930s; > Tim (name consented to be used) from JPI informed me that if you intend to run these units in frequency mode, you will need to send your JPI 900/930 back for both a firmware and a hardware change which includes a cable change. This will cost you $350. > If you are intending on running resistive, you will need the green wire version of the sender and need the current firmware. The current firmware is 1.30.1029. Unless you purchased recently, you will most likely have dated firmware. To determine the firmware, go into the user setup and toggle through until you get to the "About" option. On the right is the "Info" button, push that and it will show you the operating software and firmware. Sorry, I didn't get a price from JPI for just firmware updates. N6758N (Terry) and I are working up the parts list for the components to install these units in bladder equipped Mooneys. Once we get our parts list together, I will provide what we bought and update everyone on what went right and what went wrong. For those of you who were personally involved in the installation of your units, I would appreciate a PM on potential gotchas.

  20. No, the GFC500 (NOT G500, which is their PFD/MFD) is a completely new autopilot system that replaces everything. It requires at least one G5 for the AHRS input (ie attitude) and uses the same modern brushless servos from the experimental G3X autopilot that has a good history. A second G5 can be added for an HSI and reversionary capability (ie either G5 can be attitude input in case one fails). It has all autopilot modes like glideslope, altitude preselect, GPSS, envelope protection, straight and level, etc., so it is far more sophisticated than any existing King (or other legacy) autopilot. The new GFC autopilots as well as the TruTrak and Trio offerings will quickly obsolete the old legacy stuff.

  23. Sticky Mount!! Is no one paying attention? I keep saying it, but evidently everyone thinks I'm nuts. Actually if you're just going up for a flight around the pattern, a suction mount will work fine as well. I used my GoPro on a suction mount to diagnose an AOA indicator issue under the wing in flight. 0 to 1000 ft won't make any difference to the suction mount. 0 to 10,000 and the change in pressure will let it come loose.

  26. From my point of view as a new member I have to say that I want to hear both sides, good and bad. As someone new to airplanes and flying, and someone who will be purchasing a plane within the next 12-18 months that last thing I want to see is a "ad" for a plane with nothing but good comments and then find out later that it was completely out of the ballpark crazy. Now, I also agree that no one should "attack" an ad, or a post...but being told both sides of the story. That's a main reason for forums like this. Just my thoughts.

  29. My 0.02 worth after 55 years doing this flying stuff? Training is one thing, experience is another. All the training in the world can't replace experience! My mantra- You're not a safe pilot until you are "tempered" and you are not tempered until you make a mistake in an airplane that scares the crap out of you and YOU know you made the mistake. Once you are tempered, flying takes on an entirely different perspective.

  31. I'm sure we've all been behind the plane enough at one time or another. I've even been overwhelmed with the FMC in a 757 to the point that I turned it all off and just flew the airplane by hand. My take on how to stay ahead of the plane: 1. Do as much on the ground as possible so you don't have to do it in the air. Look up frequencies, airspace restrictions, terrain considerations, review approach plates. 2. If I'm flying and sitting fat, dumb, and happy; there is probably something I can do now so I won't have to do it later when things get busy. Get the ASOS/ATIS, load the approach, set the navaids, pretune the next comm frequency, review the approach again, and slow down if need be. 3. Know how to use all your equipment. Having to figure out how to do something with your GPS or autopilot while flying wastes time. Know what it can and can't do and how to do it so it becomes second nature. 4. Practice, practice, practice. The more you practice, the more your mind starts to catch up with the speed of your airplane. Just my two cents worth.

  32. Other theory - AT-6 primary trainer for Navy/USMC/Air Force so hours in model already exist. My dream would be a F4U corsair built out of Carbon and a Pt-6 hanging up front. But that's just because I think it's the sexiest aircraft ever built

  37. I think there is a mis conception here about escrow , Escrow is not a deposit , It is a good faith gesture , if the deal is not consummated , ALL escrow is returned .... ALL escrow.....I have a plane going to prebuy next week , The shop he uses will be advised to get paid before the prebuy , as I (the seller) will NOT pay , The buyer is also instructed NOT to use any shops that are on my field , or any shops that I do business with , as a rule , I will not recommend a shop for prebuy , It is about transparency , The things that I do require are expenses for moving the plane to be prepaid , and an escrow account established for the plane , and 5000 dollars in that account , I also do all negotiating prior to the prebuy , The customer , then has the opportunity to purchase , or not , the airplane..... Remember , the escrow acct is the PURCHASERS account , the buyer has NO ACCESS to those funds until he supplies a signed bill of sale to the customer.....

  41. I just flew to NY from ND with the Stratux that I built with AHRS for 150.00. It took a bit to get everything to fit in the case but it works slick. Only problem I ever had was every once in a while I'd get a ghost of myself and it would cause a traffic alert. But it was easy to see it was me when it was at either 12,3,6 or 9 o'clock at same altitude and 0.0 nm out. The weather is good not as good as a storm scope or active radar but still kept me away from the bad cells. It does use some current but I used a portable jump pack from Interstate battery and it powered it for 6hrs plus no problems and gave me a secondary power option if I needed it.
