  1. My wife made a joke with me/to me/ (probably about me) yesterday. She then said, are you going to post that on MooneySpace? I at first hadn't thought to, but because she mentioned it, I told her yes: The conversation kind of went like this: Meghan: blah blah blah "APP" Seth: What's APP Meghan: You know, Airplane People Problems - Man, I can't get the autopilot to capture the glideslope, guess I'll just have to hand fly this approach - APP. I smiled and looked at her, and then we both laughed, and then continued with other probably not be announced here APP problems. We are a so fortunate that we live in a country that allows our work ethic and a little luck to save up and make our passion of flight a reality. So . . . feel free to share your APP problems, I know some of the MooneySpace characters have some funny ones. -Seth

  2. Flew to waypoint cafe yesterday in Camarillo for lunch with a buddy of mine. He snapped a few shots of my E on the way home. He was flying a Geronimo, if any of you were at OSH this year you may of seen it. Enjoy

  3. I got my MP gauge back today from Instrument Overhaul Services of San Diego. It turns out the gauge was out of calibration by 4 inches. I feel I got off easy on the cost as well, under $100.00, Great people to deal with too. I plan to fly the plane later this week to double check everything. Thanks again all for your input.

  4. I was at the cafe on Saturday. In the last few months they have added a lot to the outside, and it was my first time to see it. The shaded seating area along the flight line was appreciated on a warm day. It is good to see a flourishing airport business that brings in non-aviation people. Keeps the airport relevant to the community. -dan

  6. @ryoder Awesome! I'm starting the same routine on Monday, and am doing the whole affair in 2 weeks as I'm doing an accelerated IFR course with A.F.I.T. It will be like drinking from a fire hose....did the same for my PPL and remember it as the 2 most intense weeks of my life. This promises to be worse I've been told Robert

  7. On my 97 Encore they are wing mounted and you get to them through very tight access panels. Once you take the access panels off, you'll see the lights are each held in by a ring. The rings have three screws that use an allen wrench - the bottom one that also holds the ground wire (at about 6 o'clock) needs to come out, the other two (at about 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock) just need to be loosened and then the ring that holds in the light will turn a few degrees and pull straight off. The first light you change is the worst, by the time you do all four it will seem not so bad. However this setup is exactly what convinced me to put in LED lights so that I wouldn't have to do it again.

  8. My C runs just fine at 10,000 but the climb is not fast above that. Enroute climb to 11,000 works, but not at 500 fpm. To get much more, it helps to periodically level off and accelerate, then convert speed to ~400-500 feet of altitude.

  9. The more I read, those sound like the best choices for me as well. I thought I had seen where the Trig can now connect to the 430W as an approved source, so I am looking for the KT-74 to follow soon. That solves the ADS-B OUT but leaves me up in the air on weather. I think I will let the WSI expire and run on the ForeFlight and Stratus 2 for a while. Like Cruiser says, lots of stuff coming out almost weekly. Thanks for the ideas.

  10. Why not you are already paying the instructor to sit there might as well get something useful out of him.

  11. We are about to find out the answer to an age old question... How many Mooney pilots does it take to change a light bulb? I haven't changed one lately... Best regards, -a-

  13. You should measure them, they are either PAR 36 or 46. I'd expect they are PAR 36 (4.5" diameter), and they just retrofitted the older wing.

  15. Here's what it looks like on my IO360A1A (M20E). The near side (port) line is the fuel line coming from the fuel pump to the servo. The line going to the starboard side of the engine goes to the fuel pressure sensor, in my case a transducer on the firewall. Pressure in that line should be the same as the input pressure at the servo.

  16. In 2014 with nearly six years to go, I think Bob hass got the right idea. I plan to do the same as he is, replace the existing KT-76C with the KT-74 hooked to my 430W. That will make the plane legal for 2020. It is the least costly now also. I like the idea of independently satisfying the "OUT" requirement. It leaves a lot of options for any "IN" combinations. Lots of stuff will be coming for the ADS-B IN side and for now any portable setup is a nice solution. I would hate to commit to an all-in-one system today and find out someone has a better/nicer idea that gets released six months from now.

  18. I'd be VERY careful using any cleaner that you don't know the pH of.Some of these cleaners can be VERY caustic (pH 12+) and isn't something that I'd be using on aluminum. Also, be very leery of using pressure washers on airplanes. The pressure can spread the lap joints and force caustic cleaner up into the seams. Not something that you'd want to do if you're interested in maintaining a corrosion-free airframe.

  19. I plan on replacing the KT-76A with a Kt-74 once the STC is out to hook it to the 430W. My setup is very similar to yours, including the foreflight/stratus.

  20. Unlike B26 and yours truly, Tom's flying is mostly for business and the tax man subsidizes a piece of the added operating costs. I'm thinking he might be back when he joins AARP.

  21. I have a j and not a C but when we crossed the gulf we did so at 19,000ft. We also did this with the two of us a plane loading with girly wedding gear and full tanks. Was doing about 100fpm when leveled out. The awesome thing is the plane still cruised 145-148kts but did it on 6.8gph. Love the efficiency.

  22. For anyone, much less Mooney, to be competitive in the single engine turbine arena, the new design would have to as fast as the TBM, carry as much as the Pilatus (six full seats, fuel and baggage) and cost less than an Epic. That would be the only way for the plane to gain momentum. DF

  23. Maxwell site and practice. I personally am a fan of the Mooney nod on TO where you push smartly on the yoke while retracting the gear. You can get quite good at it. Great fun every two years when you go up with the latest ATP wannabe for a FR. Scares the crap out of them. So few 20-somethings have been up in Mooneys
