  2. Well its been a long time coming... well it seems that way to me however I finally got to at least sit in the ol - new to me Rocket tonight with plans to fly it with the new panel tomorrow! I have read everything I can get my hands on and watched all the videos I could find, downloaded the training simulator etc. Any advice or words of wisdom from those who have similar panels would be greatly appreciated. The panel consists of a G500 with SVT, GTN 750 & GTN 650, GTX330EX, GDL88, GAD43E, PS8000 audio panel, Insight G3 engine monitor, KAP 150 and Alpha System AOA.(would especially like any words of wisdom on calibrating and flying with the AOA). Here are a few pics of the orig panel new panel, a couple of them with the power on the quality is beyond bad but it was all I could get with my phone and the light conditions, better pic to follow!. OK here is a shot of the panel as it is powered up with the 696.... Yea before anyone says something yes I like the yoke mounted tablets, have two on my Saratoga!! oops forgot you cant say Brand X on this site!

  3. I have to concur with all of the others, but let me add my two cents. I will never forget the day that I landed at 11R during my "insurance sentence" and it was the second landing I ever made in my E. A Piper had just landed ahead of us and three guys got out. As I taxied towards them, the three just stared--I mean STARED to the point of creepy. I said to my CFI that something must be wrong, why were they staring? He said that they were staring at the plane because of how beautiful it was. My E is painted like an Acclaim and I confess that I fell in love with it based on looks--I did luck out that she is very mechanically sound as well. Once you fly a Mooney, and fly it well, I simply cannot imagine how you could go to anything else. This is what happens when you become a "Mooniac." It is not unlike how Porschephiles feel about 911's. In fact, the Mooney is the 911 of the GA aircraft world in so many ways. I know, I've worked on both of them. Not everyone can be a Mooniac, I am almost thinking you might not be happy being one. There is just way more to a Mooney than the utility of it.

  4. Hearing ATC say, "Reduce speed, there's a 182 on a 5 mile final in front of you" Or, "Mooney 381 Sierra Papa, you are number two behind the Citation on final approach, reduce speed for the Citation. " Or, "Mooney Jet, direct Twolf, join the Twolf Two arrival (a turbine arrival)." No, I am not making this up, it is too good to make up.

  5. Just a thought. If you are making the entire assembly outside the cooler, why can't you offer multiple sizes depending on the persons needs. A short body Mooney pilot might want the smallest possible and a long body Mooney pilot might want the largest.

  6. I personally have never heard Aspen complain about Garmin. Their rep I spoke with in Santa Fe just told me the facts - which was that their system could only partially interface with GNS 430/530 units and not at all with GTN series gps systems (last I heard these are locked down so tight Aspen does not expect to "crack the code" and interface with them). They explained that there was nothing they could do as Garmin is not working with them to open the communications up. He never badmouthed them or told me what to buy or not buy. He also warned me to make sure that if I send my Garmin 430W unit in for service to make sure in the notes I specified *not* to allow them to upgrade to the latest version as it includes new code to block the Aspen Connected Panel system from interfacing with the GPS. Apparently if you specify this Garmin will leave the software version intact and not upgrade. Confronted with facts like this, I make my own decision as a consumer not to install any new Garmin products in my aircraft. I believe companies have the right to do whatever they want with their products, just as I have the choice to consume them or not to. Vote with your wallet ;-)

  7. I like the 50qt one with wheels or the 36 qt long rectangle.

  8. because there are many planes out there with Garmin GPS installed that Aspen could interface with IF Garmin would open up and share the interfacing code which they absolutely refuse to do. (or require an very large fee for) Aspen could provide a very attractive package of features (that Garmin does not offer) if Garmin would publish the data. In the end it is the customer (plane owner) that suffers. I hear many more complaints about Garmin's arrogant attitude than I hear about their great innovation and value added to aviation.

  9. Them tails might be backwards on a Mooney but I never heard of one falling off. Never heard of a 20 NMPG bonanza either.

  10. Just did cycd-kbli Bellingham today. Just have to say. Simple! I encourage all to try cross boarder travel sometime. Also I want to thank command aviation for their generous loaner BMW for the day so we could enjoy Washington. We will be back!
