  2. He has a Stratus ESG WAAS ADSB mounted directly above the copilot’s yoke. That box has the added benefit of letting you “temporarily” mount a Stratus WiFi transmitter in line with the ship’s ADSB antenna so you can broadcast “ADSB in” to your tablet with no wires in the cockpit. Thats a nice planes it’s not the best E I’ve seen, but it’s plenty usable. it’s a lot of performance for under 100k. What do vintage 172s bring these days?
  3. Flew back from Casper, Wyoming today. Nice flight, picked up a little rhime ice in a thin layer out over Nebraska. Dropped down to 13,000 and got out of it. Myrtle did well.
  4. Today
  5. @vik @LANCECASPER and @Utah20Gflyer have all pointed out basically the same solution. And they are all basically correct. Look at the model of CDIs you have, and see what GPSs they are compatible with, such as the KLN 89b ($900), KLN 90b, ($450) KLN 94 ($1050) etc. Also research which CDIs are compatible with those different GPSs, such as the KI 202 ($349), KI 206 ($795), etc. Make sure the GPS you get is compatible with the KLN89 tray. Don't be afraid of the gray code wiring for the altitude encoder. The prices I've listed are from about 30 seconds of searching ebay. Most say "working when removed" so good luck with that. So if you do most of the work yourself under the watchful eye of an A&P you might be able to get this done for about $1k. If you sell some of the equipment in the plane that you currently have, that might take it down to $500 or so. I've been at this level of cheapness before and while it works, it can be painful. Good luck, stay safe, stay legal!
  6. The fact that an inexperienced pilot could fly in formation land an f4 after an incident like that with no experience in the plane is nothing short of incredible. And at twilight with limited visibility, a broken windshield and limited controls… anyone who has ever tried to fly formation knows exactly what I am saying.
  7. Read the first post of the thread and send @Aerodon a message.
  8. I'm eventually going to get the 650/660's for my birdy but in the interim, i just replaced the bulbs with leds from spruce as for the beacon, can't speak highly enough about these
  9. I think that's where I read it, too!
  10. @PeteMc We are close. Maybe another week until it is done? Then it goes to paint so I may get to fly it for a week or two! How do you like your interior?
  11. This is a good way of keeping track of it: https://www.mooney.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/FORM_QA1027M.pdf
  12. I know! If you look at his course on the USGS page, he was blown off course after departing Alaska, or was taking advantage of favorable winds! I read that the solar powered GPS and satellite transmitter they glued to its tail feathers weighed 5 grams. He carried that too!
  13. You can report it here: https://www.faa.gov/airports/airport_safety/wildlife The bird won't get a phone number to call.
  14. According to my calculations, that figures out to almost 35 mph for his flight. That seems like an awfully good speed to me. Do you think that bird's genes come with proper accounting for good tailwinds.
  15. Count me in this camp. Any leads? My band appears fine but my mechanic wants it replaced since there’s no documentation of number of re-torques including after the last overhaul per “amendment of the chapter 4 airworthiness limitations”
  16. FINALLY got my LED Recognition lights in!! I just had the (new to me) shop do it when I went in for Annual. Haven't seen them yet, plane's done except for a couple of things they're waiting on to come back like the O2 tank. Is your plane done yet?
  17. Thanks Zippy, too bad I can't IF to my extant Cent 2B then...otherwise I might go for it. I have their tailbeacon, it's been flawless.
  18. Hi all - looking for a set of 3” extensions for a M20C. Thanks - Chris
  19. Reminds me a little of the Victoria MN crash of a few years ago where the NTSB reported that the pilot was not instrument current. What makes people think that is ok somehow?
  20. Did you ever come up with someone close to the Louisville Lexington area?
  21. But albatross soar. This little guy was 4 months old, and flapped his wings for 11 days without pause! Absolutely amazing! Plus he found New Zealand.
  22. @PharmDpilot I am a Whelen Aerospace Technologies authorized reseller and I carry the wingtip nav/strobe LED lights in my inventory. I can prepare a custom quote for you based on your needs and advise on installation. www.gallagheraviationllc.com <- website gallagheraviationllc@gmail.com <- email me 513-401-6495<- call/text/mms
  23. It looks like the Orion 650E is what you need, a 12v red and a 12v green. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/orion650eseries.php?clickkey=22748 A Mooneyspacer @OSUAV8TER is a Whelen dealer - he should be able to help.
  24. It is possible that @Schinderhannes is following this 4-year-old topic, but to increase your odds of making contact, we should ping like this @Schinderhannes
  25. "The difference between intelligence and stupidity is that intelligence has its limits" Supposedly said by Albert Einstein
  26. Clean, has auto pilot (assuming it’s working still), no shotgun panel, speed mods - only nit is no modern WASS GPS that I see, I assume ADSB somewhere. Considering others out there may have some negotiating room… A GNC 355/375 for a start and maybe Gi275s - would be in good shape if all else works…. -Don
  27. "Never underestimate the power of human stupidity." "Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool." Not my original thoughts, but I heartily agree with both of these, and their underlying sentiments.
