  1. I'm heading down to Don Maxwell this year. If you are okay with a non-mooney service center, give Groh Aviation a call at KHFY. Josh Groh has been taking care of a couple of Bravos there including my engine R&R last year... Bill G Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I don't have my mooney bravo in any type of LLC or partnership. I use an app called mint to track all of my expenses to budget. Of course in my 2 yrs of ownership I've blown my budget to pieces. Hoping for a better yr 3... If I ever moved it to an LLC, I'd likely use quickbooks. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. FYI - the 940090-501 kit was $2 AMUs. It was installed today and seems to have resolved my problem. We have a few adjustments to make Monday and will be back in the air. New micro limit switches or cleaning had no effect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Jim, it looks like I may have an issue similar to yours with my '91 TLS/Bravo. I ordered new micro switches from Don Maxwell. How much was the Retrofit Kit and did you order it from the factory or a MSC? Thanks, Bill.
  5. I had a problem retaining fuel flow memory from flight to flight with my Hoskins fuel flow on my '91 TLS Bravo. My avionics guy spent a couple of weeks trying to get support and finally gave up. At the same time, I was installing a GTN 750. The only supported way to connect fuel flow was through my JPI EDM 700. Since the flow transducers were Hoskins tied into the FT101A, he came up with option to tie the Hoskins to the JPI then into the 750. In future, I hope to eliminate the Hoskins. I did finally figure out the memory problem with the Hoskins which turned out to be a problem with the factory installed digital chronometer not working. I noticed in the wiring diagram and maintenance manual that the clock could be the problem if Hoskins doesn't keep its memory. Unfortunately, mid-continent no longer produced or supported this chronometer, so I purchased a working used one off ebay. A working chronometer solved my problem... -Bill G
  6. I'm very happy with the sidewinder from redline. If needed, I could tie it down in the cargo area and haul it with me. Here is a link: https://www.redlineaviation.com/mooney/sidewinder-mooney-airplanes/ Great support as well. Milwaukee had a bad batch of batteries, and redline owner helped me get a new replacement battery. Works great! I purchased my sidewinder used (but looks new) and saved $500-600...
  7. I suggested Josh, my A&P, give Don a call along with Bob @ Lear Romec. Curious what others see as typical range without boost pump though.
  8. I recently had my fuel pump complied with for an past AD (see attached) that prior shops had missed but Poplar Grove found during my recent crankshaft replacement. Now all back together, my fuel pressure from the engine driven fuel pump is around 18-20 psi (in the yellow). When I engage the boost pump, fuel pressure shoots up to ~45 psi (correct per mooney service manual). Does anyone have any information on how to adjust this fuel pump to at least get me into the mid-green level (35-40 psi)? What pressure readings are you guys seeing from the engine driven fuel pump? Thanks, Bill G '91 M20M TLS Bravo KHFY Lear Romec Fuel Pump 2013_03_27_10_52_22.pdf
  9. I don't know your serial number, but you might want to check service instruction M20-91A - stall warning switch circuit modification. I had a similar problem without water and my stall vane needed cleaning... Bill G '91 M20M KHFY
  10. I am getting all new lifters. Apparently there have been a few problems with some suppliers of the part in past. My old ones were pitted and not worth messing with. The cam shaft is fine according to poplar grove. They blast and grind hundreds of these every year and they claim no quality problems like with lifters. Poplar grove is balancing the crank as well. Sounds like I should wait a few hours of break in before doing the dynamic balance. Cost is $250 so I'd prefer to avoid a double hit there. Any advice from others?
  11. Thanks Walt. I did find Lord mounts for a little over $1k. However I suspect PHT prices have gone up in 18 months. I saw an old pricing sheet from Victor Aviation talking about $1,700 for oil and fuel hoses. At same time they were asking for $1,800 for mounts. Anyway, I'll keep shopping... Yes, very sad indeed to rebuild such a low time engine. Although we were able to catch a number of things that could have been a problem: 1. crack in crankcase - sent off for repair to OK (I was told by poplar grove this looked like a casting problem) 2. corrosion in cylinders and on camshaft (sent off for grinding and blasting) 3. new exhaust valves, springs 4. new tempest massive plugs (only 1 of 12 passed resistance test) - all were champion massives past 750 hrs, so probably not too bad 5. fuel pump AD complied with 6. fuel servo SB complied with It was running very smooth prior to all of this, but I did have some problems with plugs fouling without aggressive leaning. Even then, I usually had to lean and recheck mags. I ended up doing IRAN on both mags with poplar grove as well since they were past 500 hr point. A few parts replaced, especially coils. I'm also doing a dynamic balance once everything is back together. Is that what you did or talking about something more specific with the crank prior to being put back together? I believe poplar grove is doing that as well.
  12. Got a quote for 33 new hoses for the TIo-540-af1b totaling $3,900. I'm in process of complying with 569A replacing my crankshaft. Engine was installed in '98 and has 780 hrs since factory reman. The lord mounts are $1,370 and seem in short supply. Does that seem right? Any lower cost options anyone know of? Thanks, -Bill G
  13. I'm in a similar situation complying with 569A crankshaft replacement. I don't notice any scratches on the tubular frame although I do see a few small scrapes and some heat exposure near the muffler. The last thing I need is more downtime and AMUs. Would you recommend Acorn Welding for IRAN of this? Any other options? How much did it cost and length of time to complete? Thanks, -Bill G KHFY '91 M20M
  14. How would I go about getting cracks repaired in my cowling? I at lease want to minimize the chance of this spreading. Attached is a photo. Can this type of repair be done locally or will I need to have the whole cowling shipped out? Thanks, -Bill G KHFY '91 M20M
