  1. Quote: aviatoreb It is a particularly good plane for tall people. Al Mooney was 6'5'' and they say he built himself an airplane. I am 6'4'' and 205 with broad shoulders. Mooney has the best leg room of all small airplanes and as I can attest having tried piper cherokee, cessna 172/182, Bonanza (considered buying until my legs didn't fit) and Diamond DA40 (I owned this was my former plane) and copilot in a Cessna 414 and Cessna P210. I have flown with one of my flying buddies who is 6'3'' and 250. It is still fine. Although I put my 40lb balast in the rear baggage when it is me and a heavy copilot. It flies absolutely fine and feels comfortable seating.
  2. Quote: MooneyPilot This is my first post. I purchased a 78J in May and my only disappointment has been the interior roominess. Like DrBill, I am 6'2"" with a 34" inseam. Unlike DrBill, I do not have enough leg room even with the pilot's seat in its most rearward notch. Crosswind landings were especially challenging because the yoke would hit my knee when I inputted aileron to offset the crosswind. I solved this problem by sliding the pilot's seat all the way back to its stop. Although this is a very comfortable flying position for me, the pilot's seat now almost touches the rear bench seat. I also found it difficult entering and exiting the aircraft so I removed the copilot's seat which essentially makes my J a two seater. This setup works for me in that 90 percent of my flying is by myself with the other 10 percent being with my wife who really likes all the legroom she has sitting in the right rear bench seat.
  3. Thanks for the posts. I'm 6'6" most of leg. 230lbs. I sat in a m20c a long time ago(before kids). I thought it was quite comfortable. But I have a family now and would like to see how much room is behind the seats in the medium body models. Newer long body is out of budget. Also, even though I sat in a Mooney I never flew in one.
  4. Anyone in SW Missouri(Springfield area) or withing 100-150 miles have a mooney I can sit in to test the size? F,K,J models preferred, but would take any. If you would take me for a flight I would pay expenses. Thanks
