Rocket on ebay

I've searched for the tail, and registration # on the web and faa incident database, and can't find anything. What's the scoop on this plane? I did find some engine logs pdf's on the web, looks like it had an incident that resulted in a prop-strike, but no further information on the incident.

Not that I'm interested, but curious.

I found a nose gear collapse from 2006 and a landing loss of control accident resulting in collapsed gear and 3 feet of left wing tip damage from 2011.  That was just a casual look, though.

Jim

which site did you use to find out?

I couldn't find any accident reports on the plane either - I remain disinterested in the plane but am smarting from my inability to find things on the web :) (used both tail number and serial number)

That guy would be me! I want a Mooney Rocket! BUT looking at the previous issues I would be concerned. I'd rather pay a few bucks more for a pristine Rocket with upgraded avionics for IFR flight and added bonus leather seats and long range tanks.

I assume the plane was totaled and rebuilt by a salvage operator. (Jerry P.) First post crash owner is trying to sell after less than 1 year. A lot of investigation would be needed to ascertain condition.

I don't know what the going price is for a rocket, but I bet it's north of $75K.  It just smells fishy.

Wow, scary to run that on your own plane, btw 1163d runs great even with it's history, that was all news to me until today. BTW, thanks for buzzkilling my day letting find my own damage history. So, you can put these planes back together to fly well straight, true and fast.

Anything that went through Jerry Pressley's hands is a deathtrap. He already sold a couple of submarine Mooneys too.   I emailed him about one of them on eBay. He said "these new avionics work great".

-----------------------------

ha ha no problem. looked bad then didnt it? took months to go thru it even to extent of treating the Inside of the tubing structure. didnt hurt the avionics as they all light up and work great. new technology is great eh? jerry

It's back!!!   Oh and it's listed for $14K more than it was before.  Interesting sales tactic?  The seller said that he had the annual done and dealt with a 337 issue so that's why it's listed for more.  I don't remember the original ad saying anything about a 337 issue?  Drives me nuts when sellers try to pass known issues on to a unsuspecting buyer!!!!

Wowzer! I am sure glad to be patient and do my homework and so forth before rushing anything. You guys rock, save me thousands of $$$ and potential deathtrap as well.

I hope to pass my checkride in 2 weeks been practicing with a former DPE who is helping me polish my skills. Spent today reviewing maintenance logs for the plane I am using on the checkride too.

reviewing maintenance logs for the plane you will be using on the checkride ???

to make sure those bearings have been properly greased ?

The DPE here reviews the aircraft logs to make sure it is airworthy. Takng a few minutes at the FBO with a pad of post-its to mark important items is time well spent. I've heard of one person here who didn't do this, something wasn't right and the plane was grounded 42 nm away until the A&P flew there to correct it. [Not folklore, both the FBO owner and the mechanic told me about this and identified the aircraft to me.]

Goo job there, Newbie! Trust, but verify.

the pilot is responsible to check the A/C is airworthy ... usually 100h inspection complied with in the case of a rental.

i don't get your example above ? they grounded the plane 42 nm away because there was something in the maintenance log ? or was the a mechanical issue in flight ?

In the case of a DPE giving a PPL checkride is the DPE not the PIC?  Otherwise he is a passenger and students are not allowed to take passengers.  He is just making sure the plane is legal.  The local DPE has told me that he has had students show up in planes out of annual, AD's not complied with, expired transponder checks, missing registration card, ect.

I believe there were some un- or poorly-documented major repairs on this plane, so perhaps he got the proper coverage for those, or had them redone and documented correctly.  That certainly cost money.

Agree I took notes on the dates for the annuals performed on the airframe, prop and engine yesterday. All good experience in preparation for future aircraft purchase and ownership. This is how the local DPE starts the checkride by opening with oral exam on aircraft maintenance and then onward to cross country oral part.

In the description of the engine it says TSIO-360-LB Turbocharged, I tought the Rocket modification done by RocketEngineering used TSIO520-NB for this modification, am I not reading this right ???

No where on the actual Ebay listing does it say Rocket... So could it be the 231 Turbocharged, but not from RocketEngineering...

Just wondering, because at that price, it would be near what I paid for 50% of my Rocket, mind you mine had 150h use SMOH.

Thanks !
