Flaps won't retract

It is most likely a sticky microswitch.  There is a up limit switch and a down limit switch on the worm gear at the flap motor.  If this is the problem it is an easy fix, just remove the belly pan (or rear most panel for older models) and clean the switches.  These microswitches are really light duty and it only takes a little grease or gunk to cause them to stick.  Good luck, Lee

My 201 does this once in a while. Put the flap switch in the up position, turn on the master, get out of the plane, grab the flap and wiggle it up and down. It will go up. Next time you have the belly off spray the micro switches generously with tryflow and actuate them manually to work it into the switches.

M016576  I own a 1987 M20J which had a similar problem which was caused by a relay burning out on the control board.  After having the relay replaced everything worked fine for about two years and then I burned out a second control relay.  Further investigation revealed that Mooney had experienced other owners with the same issue and they created a retrofit kit to upgrade the relays to higher amperage rated relays.  The upgrade kit was Mooney Retrofit Kit IAW DWG 940090.  I don't know if this is your issue. I just offer it as a summary of my experience.

Can someone send me a picture of the limit switch? I am having the same issue down works up does not. 

 

I took the belly pan off hunted all over for the limit switches near the worm gear on the flap motor and didn't see it.

I would just to share my recent experience. Recently I was coming in to land at my home airport and discovered my flaps wouldn't come down. They were working earlier in the day on previous flights. My first thought was "Great! A new flap motor is gonna cost an arm and a leg." After doing some brief research and finding this thread I removed the rear belly panel, sprayed the micro switches and BAM! the flaps were working again. I'm attaching photos for future reference for others. This was performed on a 1978 J. The micro switches are right in the centerline of the plane as illustrated. I hope this helps.

Jim, it looks like I may have an issue similar to yours with my '91 TLS/Bravo.  I ordered new micro switches from Don Maxwell.  How much was the Retrofit Kit and did you order it from the factory or a MSC?  Thanks, Bill.

FYI - the 940090-501 kit was $2 AMUs. It was installed today and seems to have resolved my problem. We have a few adjustments to make Monday and will be back in the air. New micro limit switches or cleaning had no effect.

Just had the same problem with the flaps not retracting after landing my Bravo , wouldn't come up . Found it the be the  relay switches. If you tapped on them ,the flaps would come up. There is a small  Circuit board that the relays are  soldered  on to , the back side of  my board was corroded some . Ordered the  retrofit kit ,and will be installing it this coming Tuesday. The micro switches are working fine.

Here you go Carusom. They are located at the forward end of the flap actuator. there are four small brass screws that hold on to a plate from the top next to the microswitches on that same end. The board faces up& relays are down.

fyi regarding the microswitches.  in the early J models, they are a Honeywell switch.  You can buy them from Mooney for 60-80 bucks but you can find the exact same switch no. if you look online for 6 bucks.  I use a forklift parts outlet site as my go to for those switches.

Wow, you are getting ripped off, I got the last ones on EBay for a buck each.

It is interesting that they used a relay that isn't rated for DC. DC is much harder on relay contacts then AC. When a relay opens it can cause a small arc. Because AC passes through zero volts on every cycle it will break the arc as it passes through zero volts. With DC the arc will continue until the gap is big enough to break the arc. Because of this most switches and relays are rated for about 1/2 the current carrying capacity for DC.
