Cylinder head temp barely off the peg. 1970 M20E

So today I was flying and the cylinder head temperature barley got off the peg. Air temp was I the 70's.

This is my cowl opening (yes the plugs were gone...).

Is this ok? Usually the temp is a little bit more, and cowl flaps were closed.

Find where the thermocouple has escaped, and put it back...

It can't get too far away, it is connected at the other end.

A four probe cylinder temp and exhaust gas monitor is NOT optional in the 21st century. If you are flying a Mooney...Get one.

I bought a used insight GEM years ago for $200 bucks with probes...

However, I note while flying around 8000' lately, in areas where ground temps were well below zero ©, I was not even getting 300 deg on any of my CHTs.

Ebay. A lot of time looking. There is a reason rich people are rich...in my experiences with rich people...It is not from "giving stuff away". Deals are out there.

My experience is same as Ned's, with typical temp's hovering around 300 (max 330 in the summer, 290's in cold weather) using EI UBG monitor.  ('64 E).
